I'd say they will announce new expansion, although, wotlk hasnt been out 12 months, then again they may now have a clear path how they wish to proceed, and can be more efficent and productive cutting down time between content.

    EDIT:

    Just read the "potential" expansion.

Seems very itneresting, its not going to be a horrid grind, a nice filler, probably wont cost oas much retail as previous ones if these things are to be true, new races/class combos, new races, redesign of old content( love it) azeroth completely revamped.

It sounds good to me, I want to get all my classes to 80 and geared, and it will take along time, so the less heavy levelling on new expansions, the better for me I think.

Although clearly there is going to be "qq" "**** blizz lazy" "another nail in coffin" remarks, but nothing can be told until it actually comes out.

It's about time they started to open up all those zones in Azeroth tbh, and fighting Deathwing in Grim Batol would be awesome too... might even consider coming back to the game for that

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 862 ✭✭✭Psycopat

I cant wait to see deathwing and queen Azshara, should be some very interesting stuff, and i like the idea of huge changes happening in the old world such as the potential of 1000 needles being flooded. It just makes it much more epic. ALSO! Flying mounts in azeroth!!

I asume a lot of this is going to be true because they usually dont get much wrong on mmo-champ.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 954 ✭✭✭DarthWraak

I'm usually one to look down at Blizzard for rehashing old content, but Azeroth does need a revival and if most of the stuff detailed in this thread comes to pass then it will spark a new found love for WoW for me and tons others. And ****ing Deathwing! I did lol @ Troll druid though ><

By the way the expansion name "Cataclysm" is 99% confirmed as Blizz have copyrighted the website name, well so I head a few weeks ago

well mmo champs sources have been proved impecable - pretty sweet imo

    Heres the announcement trailer

Ok so....wow I am excited. Ive not been playing WoW for a few months now but this has me psyched. I always wished they re-jigged the classic zones using the stuff they learned from the 2 expansions.

im sooooo rolling oone of them worgs.

Anyone have a good guess, based on past trends, on when this may be released? I am guessing next july at the earliest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,614 ✭✭✭BadCharlie

Goblins are so much better then the worgs. would say we will see loads of Goblins when this comes out. Also warlocks just got some major buffs.

It couldn't possibly be christmas, that is wayyyy too early. They have another patch to bring out also. One expansion a year is too much. If they bring out content too fast the core player will not be too happy, fcuk the hardcore player tbh.

I agree 100% - will be interesting to see how this hand is played tbh.

Well, i had planned on rolling a Druid at some stage, so i guess i'll wait for this expansion and roll a Worgen Druid. Maybe (here's hoping) they'll give us Wolf form instead of Cat form. That'd be sweet. Also, classes available for the new races....

Worgen classes available: warrior, hunter, rogue, priest, death knight, mage, warlock, druid.

Goblins classes available: warrior, hunter, rogue, priest, death knight, shaman, mage, warlock.

    Also, Goblin Mount :)

horde overall have one extra class/race combo than ally - I CALL SHENANIGANS OMG

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,067 ✭✭✭Gunmonkey

Well they have the Worgen and Goblin starting areas available to play at Blizzcon aparantly, so they must be quite a bit along. And it was last November since WoTLK so if Cata was out around this time next year then it would be almost 2 years between expansions.

Plus that vid is quite old (I think), my friend in Blizzard said they were shown a "special DVD presentation" a few months back of which they couldnt talk but was amazing....must be this. It was probably a leak of this presentation where that MMO site got all the info from a few days back.

I'd say I'll just have to roll a worgen now :)

Get warlock to 85 then roll a worgen :) Might get a few outland boyos with me, should be fun. :)

    Worgen priest it is ;)

Will the lich king be dead before this expansion is released?

I assume yes, although I'm a big "no no" for killing main characters like that, still gutted over Illidan

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,276 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

I hate when they kill off characters from the original series, especially Illidan and will hate it when they kill Arthas. I didnt mind them dying in the strategy game, but it just doesnt seem like a fitting end for some of them. But i guess it kind of has to happen.

Well they can't last forever, can they? Gotta kill them off at some stage.

Kiith? I am up for leveling a druid worgen :)

Sorry, i'll be too busy grinding for my Rogue's epic mount to play with you :P

The one thing i'm worried about Worgen Druid is that i'll spend 100% of combat in cat/bear form, so i'll never get to see the Worgen form, bar out of combat. So unless they add different forms for them, i may go with a mage or something else.

Its not really the killing off of main characters that annoys me (how would the story continue if they didnt, more and more super powerful beings keep showing up every 4-6 months). What bugs me is when you "kill" an enemy at the end of an instance, go out and back in and you can kill him again. Its worse to see Illidan or Arthas become glorified loot containers than to just bump them off at the end of a quest line.

Thats what i mean though. If they die in the strategy game, then it feels like part of the story. As you said, in World of Warcraft it just feels like something you have to do to get loot, which makes i feel unimportant.

Rated battlegrounds finally for those of us who detest arena's ! yay :)

I watched the whole thing live over the last two nights/mornings in HD (yes I actually paid for it) and generally enjoyed it.

Rated BG's, cross server LFG's, Worgen/Goblins, Massive old world changes, Archaelogy, flying in Azeroth....can't fuppin wait for this.
Troll and Worgen Druids be getting unique feral forms? Chris Robinson hops on with a very clear "yes."
Well, that solves my Druid issue :)

    1:27PM Icecrown Citadel sneak peek!

1:27PM 10 and 25 player raid. "31 epic bosse-wait what? Did Ghostcrawler get ahold of this slide?"

    1:27PM There's actually 12 bosses.

1:28PM It will use the waypoint system from Ulduar. Sindragosa and the Lich King are the two bosses they just named.

1:28PM There are 4 floors to the dungeon, and it's still a spire. It's inside of the huge metal casing we see.

1:29PM On the 2nd floor, you board your faction's airship. Alliance boards with Varian, Horde boards with Saurfang. You race the other faction up to the next floor.

1:29PM The two ships fire at eachother, and the two ships board eachother with rocket packs. You need to attack/defend.

1:29PM 3rd floor has multiple wings

1:30PM 4th floor is just Arthas. It's a big, round throne room. "Parts of the room will break off. And if you fall of... well, it's bad."
Sounds pretty cool, though we the Horde/Alliance would be fighting against each other inside Icecrown is a bit odd. Not that i'll ever get to see it though.

I just can't see them allowing players to kill arthas - way too big he'll be banished or some ****e killed? I just can't see.

I definately be up for rolling worgen if a few peeps were up for it.

The announcement for the WOLK was so underwhelming, that it put me off purchasing it. It simply offered no where near enough to consider getting it, and that was after following the dev updates for months from the likes of WoWhead and Worldofraids. If Blizz had released an expansion combining the amount of changes in both Wolk and Cataclysm then yeah for sure I would have got it. Seems semi interesting but they simply would have to offer way more than what they are doing to make it worthwhile. Maybe my I'm too demanding :)

It's exactly what they're doing though. Reading the stuff on MMO Champion, they're pulling a Kael'Thas on everything.

Molten Core was merely a setback.
Blackwing Lair was merely a setback.
Onyxia's Lair was merely a setback.
The Deadmines was merely a setback.
Shadowfang Keep was merely a setback.

Next expansion after Cataclysm, Black Temple, Kharazan, Serpentshire, Hyjal were all merely setbacks.

3 Years down the line, Arthas pops up for the fourth time and shouts malfunctioning holographic simulated Icecrown in restored gnomeregan was merely a setback.

Flying mounts in azeroth and 2 new races, people who roll one of the new races are gonna have a very hard time leveling with level 80's flying around :)

    Stranglthornazeroth

Three cheers for rated BG's though :)

One thing I was surprised at though, there was no mention of guild houses or even just player housing. That is just really really a long time coming and would've thought they'd have given it at least some thought for this new expansion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,140 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

That was dumped immediatly in alpha testing, when guild houses started clottering up so much space it was outragous.

I dont know technically how they would do it, perhaps like an instance, but you can see the troubles they are having managing the current instance capacities on some servers, so id assume its not a high priority, and rightly so.

Are you displaying the same symptoms as this guy? :D

One of the panels mentioned that you will need to be level 85 with rep to unlock flying in the old world so new rollers will get a window before the Stranglthornazeroth hunt kicks in.

With only 3.3 left before the xpac hoping it hits long before Blizzcon 10 rolls around.

Why was Gnome Priest the one thing that so many people seemed to complain about? Surely a Tauren Paladin would be stranger? As for flying in Azeroth, how much do you think its gonna cost? While it would be great if it was free (especially with 3 alts), i hope its more like the Cold Weather Flying rather in the 300 skill itself.

anyone else thinking that this should be a patch rather than a expansion?

its not like they're brining in the amount of content that TBC or WotLK had, am a bit disappointed with it, i know its early days and it could be the best thing since sliced bread..
    (here's the QQ)
but i've been playing wow since it was released here (4?) years ago, they should have revamped azeroth and the old level 60 stuff back when TBC was in full swing, blah blah blah.. i hate shadowfang keep, i really dont want to do it heroic lol.
Like someone already said, qq another nail in the coffin, i honestly think it is for me anyway, although northrend itself has been quite boring compared to the content in tbc and the epic 40man raids in vanilla prior to that.
Again, i dont think that level of experiance can be replicated or reproduced with any amount of rehashing.
maybe i've just been playing wow too long, and am stuck in the vanilla/tbc frame of mind.
In fairness if i'm bored enough i'll come back to playing wow over anything else, as i've tried most of the supposed "wowkillers" and they just pale in comparison to wow, even with its flaws.

I am a bit disappointed all the same.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 46 dubhdara3

I'm actually looking forward to it, and here's why

I wasn't one of the original players, I didn't start playing until after TBC came out, and even then it was only on again, off again, never levelling about 40.

Then just before WOTLK came out, I got into the game properly, and about 3 months ago I leveled my first 80. I did take my time levelling, but I know that most people didn't really want to do the Original stuff or the TBC stuff as they were only really interested in the quickest way to get to lvl 80, and when people were doing the Original stuff or TBC stuff much of the time they would look down at you and choose a higher lvl player instead. So in essence by the time I got to Northrend, I had done Very Little Instances or Raids

Since Dinging lvl 80, I know I could go back and plow through many of the dungeons quite easily myself, however I know my spend easily 95% of my time in Northrend doing Hc's, Dailies, raids etc. I think I only really go to Azeroth for the Auction House, Culling of Stratholme, or to do the daily for my Venomspite Raptor, and I can't remember the last time I was in Outland... it doesn't pay much to go there.

So in essence, I am looking forward to the chance to go back to Azeroth, and perhaps see some more of it, rather than spending all my time in Northrend.

By the same accord, I do also understand that it's difficult for Blizzard to balance making new content for the higher lvl players (increasing level etc) and at the same time they need to make it easier for newer players to level, since when the game first came out, a level 60 player was doing the end-game stuff, but now a level 60 player is only going to Outland, and still has another 20 levels to do... which can be disheartening, if it was always as difficult as when it was new... it would end up taking much longer, and could lose them players.

Still think Worgen should have been Horde tho :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 458 ✭✭hacx

I just wonder where they're gonna place the level 80+ areas. My guess is they'll be underground.
