Your hand held weapon of choice

I would pick a camping axe. Small, compact, light and easy to sharpen if you have a stone with you. It would crack skulls quite easily and wouldn't get stuck in branches, furniture etc as it is short.

So what would your hand-held weapon of choice be?

    A simple claw hammer.

It's essential to pick a weapon that's designed for constant abuse.

Long handled slash hook or a hatchet or a sword(needs sharpening though)

    Maybe a samurai sword.

But then you have to lug that thing around the whole time, clothe it, listen to it's problems. It's more trouble than it's worth. ;)

An ice axe, split their skulls like ice:pac:

The only thing I have in my house that could serve as a decent weapon would be a fairly long handled shovel. Could probably sharpen the edge and would get a few blows out of it. Other than that it would have to be one of the small hammers that are in my shed as a back up.

Long bladed Swiss Army Knife. Or is that cheating?

I suppose something that doesn't need sharpening would be an advantage but small hand held camping axes stay very sharp for quite a long time and it isn't much trouble to carry around a sharpening stone anyway. With the rate that they cut through logs, I'd imagine a zombie head would be like butter.

I don't think you'd need to keep it all that sharp anyway, I'd say zombies would suffer from brittle bones and a pointy axe would have no problem going through the skull.

It really does depend if they are fast or slow Z's.

If they are fast your looking at a gun of some kind, I'm thinking shot gun but it would have to be pump action. Trouble there is it a close kill weapon only. A rifle of some sort (machine gun for extra effectiveness) will allow distance protection however could be risky in close quarters...

If they are slow z's then besides a gun I reckon a baseball bat would be a positive addition to anyones utility belt. Bats are very light and will break skulls, arms, legs as well as windows light doors etc all day long. Also good for a game of baseball should the opportunity ever arise in a post apocalyptic world.

I should have clarified that I meant small melee type weapons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,565 ✭✭✭thebouldwhacker

(thebouldwhacker gets torn to shreds as his weapons disappear in a cloud of clarification)

Well in that case the only weapon is a bottle of Jameson (Midleton Rare would be nice)

    Step 1: Consume Whiskey
Step 2: Smash the bottom off
Step three: take on evverryone ov teose bas****s... *slur*
Step four: When you wake in the morning be fast cos in your drunken haze you may have pulled a particularly pretty z so you gotta take her her out!!!

Badass no doubt... wouldnt trust it to start when needed though.... even if it were attached to the stump what used to be my arm:rolleyes::D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 26 Wikipedia

just keep it running, anythin in your arms length does not stand a chance, you dont even have to swing it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 889 ✭✭✭Bajingo

Lightsaber clearly..doesnt need sharpening just keep swinging..i'd have a green one:D

More realistically some form of machine gun maybe with a bayonette thing on it.
Id have room for a sharpened shovel or ice pick with a long handle.

I wouldnt have anything with a short handle too risky me thinks.

A glaive. When you absolutely, positively have to kill everyone in the room - accept no substitute. 150cm oak shaft, 6cm blade, with 2kg of lead on the 'back' end.

You can use it like a spear, quarterstaff or double-handed-sword.

....and hope that it doesn't run out before you've dispersed all the zombies who've been drawn to the noise of the chainsaw.

    Ill go down fighting..

    Dammit, touche....
I guess a katana would be quiet but deadly, or possibly a night little chinese axe....
    Or possibly a Mace....

Are you being serious? if so my post was a lighthearted and somewhat witty response highlighting the irony of wikipedia's post and was in no way an instruction on what other people should or shouldn't post.

+1 for the crowbar, not only can it smash a zs skull easily, but they're really light and good for breaking into abandoned buildings.
The only problem is you'll be within arms reach of the Z when using it, which is why i'm going to buy one of these

    snipercrowbar_2.jpg

Was thinking to myself the other day, would a scythe be a decent weapon, I know there's one knocking around my garden somewhere

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,027 ✭✭✭Kama

A heavy lock and either a chain, or plenty of tough, lightweight rope.

When not used for bludgeoning damage to the head, or to shatter a knee, it can be used to secure areas, or incapacitate zombies for easier kills. Especially if you are relying on melee, some form of CC would work wonders.

It's also handy for tying up the inevitable lost-the-plot panicking human liabilities.

a sythe would certainly have an impact, but you would be vunerable for about 5 seconds on your backswing...

I'd definitely go Irish Sean of the dead style and take a hurley :P. Would get pretty far with that, all you need is something to do in the brain. Either that or a baseball bat :P

In relation to people taking sharp objects, I wouldn't think they'd last very long, especially katanas or swords, and also they would need constant sharpening.

Haha nah ;), as I've already said, a blade in my opinion would be a waste, wouldn't be a problem short term, but all the maintenence that goes into a sword's upkeep is ridiculous, and you're going to be using it regurlarly :P.

I'd rather bludgeon them to death instead of chopping ehm up :)

Scythe and the head of a slash hook out in the shed one is long enough to make vits a number of relatively close zombies [Sharpness doesn't matter it'd still make pieces of bone] and for up close and personal the slash hook as it's only about 2ft. long.

And if all else fails get a bed sheet paint it black and pretend to be the grim reaper, they'll think I'm on their side :pac:

    Ba'tleth

It has swinging force to crack skulls, so does not need to be sharp but sharp means that you have decapitating option

I'd be going with the claw-hammer or crowbar myself. The hammer would be best I think; the trick would be to get behind the zombies through stealth or ducking under the swinging arm. Then one or two shots to the back of the skull would get the job done. If there are loads of them around and you're backed into a corner, no weapon that can easily be found will help you though.
