What's the story with all the away jerseys

I know a few were needed during games but are they wearing away jerseys in football matchs on purpose? Is it something to do with the 125 year Anniversary?

I can't see which games didn't need them.

Meath (Green) vs Mayo (Green)
Tyrone (White) vs Kildare (White)
Derry (White) vs Monaghan (White)

etc

Get used to them - Semi finals:

Red/White V White/Red
and
Green/Yellow V Green/Yellow

Teams will only wear there away colours or prov colours when they clash with there opposition.

Thank heavens counties are using their away jersies. One think I hated about GAA was when two counties with similar colours didn't change in the past, ie Kerry V Mayo a few years ago.

I agree totally. Any colour clash whatsoever should result in away jerseys being worn.

Ya... I know i didn't start the thread... or mention 125th aniversary?

Anyway, Kildare have the best 2nd Jersey, Kerry's new one isn't half bad either.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there use to be a time when, if the colour clashed, both teams would wear their provincial colours.

This probably came from a time when the cost of jerseys was too high and they simply made use of the provinical jerseys.

Perhaps this is why Kerry will be in Blue for the game against Meath.

I don't think there is any potential clash within a province.

I also like the idea where both teams are forced to change. Its more fair.

Sligo always wore white until they met Kildare in 2004 (?). Since then they have woren black.

What I don't understand is why do they insist on both teams wearing their "away" jerseys, like what happened in Tyrone/Kildare and Mayo/Meath? Surely only one team changing would suffice.

Not that I'm complaining or anything, it's about time they got their head around this (those Kerry/Mayo matches were headwreckers), but it is a bit odd all the same.

meath vs limerick this year in the qualifiers aswell

and you'll prob see both meath and kerry in changed strips for the semi.

But, as you say, at least they are changing, unlike the 96 final, i think meath and mayo didn't realise they had the same colours till the replay!

Where have you ever seen this blue and white jersey?.... the change strip is just the goal keepers jersey (for anyone who didn't notice)..... which for us has usually been white(which is our second colour), but the football the last two years has been black

Green with a gold hoop (our pre-92 AI S/F 'Home' jersey which should be restored!)
Green with gold trim (inverse of current 'Home' jersey)

Back in the '93 Munster hurling final Tipp wore an alternate strip while Clare remained in their normal saffron and blue. This change was a once off as in every Tipp-Clare match since both teams have played in their normal colours. I always wonder what was so special about that '93 final that made Tipp change jersey?

Whenever a change was required in the past, teams generally used to play in their interpro colours. In recent years, teams seem to have special 'Away' jerseys.

I'll never forget a league game some years ago when Donegal played Roscommon away. Both teams wore gold, and so a change was required. Donegal had only brought their 'Home' kit, and so wore the Roscommon 'Away' jersey while Roscommon played in their 'Home' jersey'!

Because away strips are not used very often, do they sell them in the shops? Or are they just produced specifically for the players whenever needed?

well the limerick away jersey is on sale in shops so the other county away jerseys are probably too.

Yes, but mainly for the bigger counties i find. An away jersey form a small county would probably have to be ordered specially from the supplier

I'm not fully convienced the jearseys are always needed. Surely Cork and Tyrone can just wear their regular ones, Cork's is almost completly red and Tyrones is almost completly white

You could buy Donegal 'Away' jerseys in Elverys (and elsewhere) before and after the home game against Antrim (:rolleyes:). I also saw the Kildare 'Away' shirt in Elverys before the Tyrone match.

I'd say the put them on sale during the Championship when the team is playing a team with the same colours. I don't recall seeing them on general sale.

ya, i always wondered that myself.

tipp played in an all yellow jersey, while clare played in an all blue jersey!

tipps away jersey is class, brendan cummins was wearing it in goals during the munster final, tis the same template as the home jersey only its navy with a blue hoop acroos the jersey

I don't ever remember Waterford wearing an away jersey. Certainly not at any match I was at. The only time I felt they were needed was a few years ago when we played Laois in a league match. Both our jerseys at the time had the exact same template, only difference being the main colours were switched. But there was still so much blue and white on each strip it didn't make any difference what so ever.

Oh did Clare play in a different jersey too, i couldn't remember! The only thing i remember about that match is the rain, Michael Cleary putting over points from all angles and Tipp winning by 27 points. I always thought that jersey was class, and i love the Tipp goalie jersey from 2007, sort of gold and silver. Very nice! Don't know if i could bring myself to wear a Tipp jersey though
