anyone having a go post here, by the way pp and boyles paying 6 now but my advice would be not to bother betting till wed as usually all the best prices and offers are available then,

    although i'll be on betfair,
won a few bob on jimenez at firestone, will post my own picks on wed,

also if anyone hears bob bubka on newstalk please post his tip here,
he had lucas glover for the us open at big odds

    good luck all.

I agree, wait til Wed, one of them will prob go EW 1-7 then, and the odds may improve. Got the Allenby ew bet in last week, so gonna try Boo at 125's if I can get 7 places, he is due a big one again soon, and this the type of occasion he can shine at.

    Tiger @ 7/4 - Printing money.

Stewart Cink@ 50/1 - Can do a Harrington on it. Played well this week.

Ken Duke @ 350/1 - Worth an outside punt as this can throw up some wired contenders.

If this is what it seems, then I think it will be my bet for the USPGA,

    http://www.paddypower.com/bet/golf/uspga-championship?ev_oc_grp_ids=37832

handicap betting on the 72 holes, Harrington (-6) @ 9/1,

if someone could help clear it up for me, does it mean Harrington starts at (-6) much like a football handicap of +1 for ''X'' team,

also another bet which someone else mentioned would be for Jimenez, Miguel Angel to finish in the top 10 @ 17/2, seems a strong bet, he has been playing nicely lately making the top 10's,

also a few other quid e/w on Cink @50/1, Westwood @30/1, and possibly Stricker 35/1,

think Westwood has been playing nice and knocking on the door...

Personally, I like the look of Villegas to place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 691 ✭✭✭ghosttown

Have gone with Allenby again, 90/1 1-6 on Powers, Weekly 125/1 and Appleby 200/1 on Boyles (Appleby only 150/1 Powers, so worth looking around)........just €3 each way on each. Basis was there record of making cuts, at least should give me an interest into the weekend I hope !

Harrington has a 6 shot handicap over Woods. It's not clear but I'm sure the betting is only between those 13 players. Harrington would have to beat the other 12 players (after the handicap is taken into account) for you to win the bet.

So he'd have to finish within 6 shots of Woods.
    1 shot better than Mickelson.
2 shots better than Westwood, Goosen, Stricker, Mahan.
3 shots better than Garcia, Ogilvy, Stenson, Perry, Furyk, Fisher.

In the result of a tie your odds are divided by the amount of players in that tie.

The bookies reckon Woods is going to finish at least 6 shots better of than every player.

An event dominated by americans until harrington broke through last year

two mid twenty year old americans of interest -

    nick watney 125/1 pp

    dustin johnson 175/1pp

both in top ten of driving distance stats +300yards average
(this course is a genuine monster ,have a look at course card)
and both with maiden pga tour victories this year

event has a history of first up american winners..

Would you think that is a good bet?, it looks quite possible, and a good price I would have thought,

or would people recommend just going with Harrington E/W at 22/1?...

Apart from Tiger, he expects Allenby and Villegas to do well this weekend, Allenby being the stronger tip from what I gathered from what he said.

Villegas 60/1, Allenby 80/1 with PP right now, paying 1/4 e/w first 6 places.

Can't look past Woods but 2/1 is not a great price. Will back Paddy e/w at 25/1, paying 6 places.

Can you tell me where you can get Paddy at 25-1? I know PP have him at 22-1, playing 6 places also.

Betfred have him at 25's paying 6 places. Ladbrokes, Extrabet and William Hill also at 25/1 but not sure if they pay 6.

Thats why anyone betting on this thread (I suspect) will look straight past Woods. I'd sooner get 1/4 the odds of a 66/1 shot than win a 2/1.

    True.

I'll just throw a few quid e/w on a couple of outsiders today. After the cut I'll look for some value.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

    I've gone for

    Mike Weir
    Sergio Garcia
    Robert Allenby
    Brandt Snedeker

Sorry Mike. Have to look where the winner is coming from. I'm on Woods in a big way. If you are playing for a place then use Betfair and avoid giving the layers your additional stake.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,303 ✭✭✭Boxfresh

My bets thanks to John Duggan.
    Betfair Prices

    Robert Allenby w/o Woods @ 65
    Robert Allenby Top 10 finish @ 7.6
Sergio Garcia to win @ 46
    Justin Rose Top 10 finish @ 11

    Good luck all!

    I went for Cink e/w @ 50-1.

Tiger is looking nailed on for this though - he is streets ahead of the field.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 857 ✭✭✭thedini

I have eventually decided to go for the following:

Mickleson @ 25/1 e/w, think these odds are too big if anywhere near his best.
Stricker @ 40/1 e/w bang in form no reason why he can't take it down.
Allenby @80/1 e/w odds are still too high after another good showing last week.
McIlroy @80/1 e/w, one of the bright young stars has had a relatively indifferent couple of months( for him) but feel he has the game, he enjoys playing in the States and 80's is too big.
    and a couple of small punts on D.Johnson @175/1 ew, N.Watney @125/1 e/w.

I know that Allenby is a popular pick after last week, but could never have him.

It is 2001 since he last won!!!

Think Harrington is coming into form so I think it will be another duel between himself & Tiger.

This is Mickelsons 2nd tournament since his lay off & his short game isn't up to his usual standard so I'm steering clear of Big Phil this week.

    I've gone €10EW on Harrington @ 22/1
    €5EW on Kenny Perry @ 50/1
    €5EW on Jimenez @ 110/1

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,390 ✭✭✭fintonie

I think its interesting that 3 weeks ago Harrington said he need 2/3 weeks more practice then he would of felt a lot better,,, he seems to be doing what he said,

he is worth a bet for sure as he depends a lot on believing he is playing well, in his latest interview he just cant wait to get on to the course I think he will put in a good performance.

others I will be putting some of the kids inheritance on,

    Goosen
    Soren Hansen
    Baddeley
    Scott Adam

I think Hansen is great value @ 150/1 but time will tell gl all.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18 Solesurvivor

Im Thinking of Martin Kaymer at 100-1 crazy odds think he should be there abouts and Luke Donald who is starting to get back in the mix of things at 85-1 looks interesting also

    Sergio
    Weir
    Chad Campbell

Soren Hansen is a good one but i placed one outside the top 7 at the open for me so i wont forgive him!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,148 ✭✭✭✭Raskolnikov

Kaymer e/w should be a good shout, he's constantly improving.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,706 ✭✭✭premierstone

Very suprised Cabrerra hasnt even been mentioned here, major winner, good showing last week and the course is a monster and will suit he's long driving.

My bets are all w/o Tiger

    Stewart Cink
    Angel Cabrerra
    Alvaro Quiros.

And will keep an eye on Rory McIlroy and Nick Watney in the first round might back them in running if they start well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,587 ✭✭✭Berty44

I like Allenby especially after last week's showing. I put a bet on him yesterday and then Bob Butka and John Duggan both tipped him so that reinforces my belief. You just never know in golf but backing the long shots has paid off for me big time this year with Brian Gay @80/1 and Lucas Glover @175/1 coming up trumps. Interesting on the Lucas Glover one he was a guy I fancied but put my money elsewhere. Then heard Bob Butka tip him and the next morning John Duggan so just got the bet on in time.

Mind you for the past 2 years I did not have a winner so you need to be patient with the long shots.

    Have a few bob on

    Michelson
    Els
    Singh
    Furyk
    McIllroy
    Kaymer

    Here's the best odds available,

I'm backing Woods at 2/1 with PP, €0 smackers! After watching all last week I can't see past him. He's playing beautifully.

You're basically getting 2/1 that he drives it straight off the tee, because if he does he will win in a canter and tbh he probably has a favourites chance even if he does'nt.

McIlroy started well -2 thru 5

Allenby as well -1 thru 4

regarding Woods short price, a man once said to me, don't mind what price he is once he wins. If you honestly think woods will win, then back him at any price.
Have Allenby and Garcia myself. Just hope none of them call a 2 stroke foul on themselves, had Tim Clark last week, was going well until he called a foul on himself, but i suppose thats the gamble.
Should be a good tournament this week though, lots of fellas starting well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭DeadSkin

    My cupla euros;

    Rose, Justin @ 80/1 e/w
    Villegas, Camilo @ 60/1 e/w
    Allenby, Robert @ 80/1 e/w
    Garcia, Sergio @ 40/1 e/w

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 740 ✭✭✭Cremated

    My three bets are Harrington @ 14/1 w/o Woods, 40 e/w

    and Allenby @ 60/1 w/o Woods, 10 e/e

and 30 on Miguel Angel Jimenez to finish in the top 10...

Winning even at 2/1 is nice but the absolute thrill of having a long shot winner in golf is incredible and all you need is one every couple of years to cover yourself, even a few e/w to come in. My logic is that Woods would have to win 45 times @2/1 to equate what you would win at Allenby at 90/1. Its about the only sport where if you study the form and look at player's course history you can actually pick a long shot. After looking at Woods on day 1 you really would have to say he does look awesome.

I know its a bit late but my selections were

Allenby 100/1 (had him last week)
    Cabrera (60/1)
    Quiros (175/1)
    Dustin Johnson (175/1)
    Boo Weekly (125/1)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 691 ✭✭✭ghosttown

Allenby looks like giving most of us on here a runner for the weekend, gonna dip back in the water and have some of Soren Kjeldsen ew at 90/1, he's in tied 9th and that looks good price. Tee's off in half an hour, so will see how he does.
