Main reason to hate the Brits

A full four-and-a-half months before presents are exchanged, London department store Selfridges has put its annual Christmas range on sale.

Customers can rush to buy baubles and stock up on decorations from the Yuletide shop this year earlier than ever before.

The flagship first run of Christmas goods is traditionally sold from the end of August.

The store defended its decision to bring the launch forward, insisting: "We wouldn't (do) it now unless we thought there was a market for it."

With baubles adorned with Union flags as well as "We Love England" and "We Love London" slogans, Selfridges is openly coveting the buoyant tourist trade.

A spokeswoman said the state of the British pound meant more and more visitors were spending their cash in the store.

It is too early to know how much demand there will be for Christmas decorations when the temperature in the capital is 23C.

Customers escaping the heat will not yet be forced to shop to a background of festive songs on loop.

But artificial trees on sale in bright pink and bright purple left few in doubt that Christmas has come early to the capital.

Selfridges is set to widen its release of goods over the coming months.

A broader array of festive stock will arrive in late September, when all the Christmas ranges start to appear around the store.

Christmas shops at Selfridges' Manchester and Birmingham branches will then follow at the beginning of October.

Real trees will be available for the first time this year, in December of all months.

Harrods normally start at the end of July, huge tourist numbers and the place is packed with people buying, from a business point of view you can't knock it, Selfridges obviously going down the Harrods route, as they have tended to start later in the past.

How?? Harrods is a HUGE tourist attraction, year after year the Christmas dept is packed at this time of the year with tourists and all spending, so from a business point of view you can't knock it, I personally avoid it, can't stand Christmas.

People having family/friends round for Christmas - more food to store. Might think "Well let's get a bigger fridge" ?

I agree, it was obvious play on Brit-Hate to invoke reaction. I'm sure, like I do, URL spent the required 72 man hours reviewing and editing the thread before posting. He would have spent at least 6 hours on the title and decided the risk of offence was worth the amount of thanks received in return while depending on people to jump to his defence throughout the thread life-cycle to keep it active and receive as much thanks as possible!

What did I just say? :pac:

Over 700 years of opression is enough to hate them for, but every one of them I've met is not THE ONE to hate (they've all been normal just like us), I'm just waiting till I meet him or her then I'll show them the face I've been saving for them, just wait......

    Totally agree with you.

Britain historically made a lot of ethical errors, but I think it is plain stupid to keep having a ceaseless hangover over it.Most of the Brits as we know them today were not privy to those atrousious acts and it would be very stupid to sink to the level of the their ancestors that commited those crimes.

not republican bashing Tom, I'm a republican, I love my republic, I just don't see the need to hate people for the sake of hating or where they were born or where they live...

    Oh ok, sorry.. I misunderstood.
For what it's worth, I'd be more on the republican side (which sounds a ridiculous thing for an English lad to say :P)

EDIT: What a strange 1,000th post!

There's alot of absolute dicks in this thread,

If you're gonna assume that I'm against British people then you better have a good reason to do so

Show me a thread where I've shown anything of the sort, and if you think I'm being offensive report it, I've reported many of your posts ;)

If you think I'm a wanker then ignore me, there's a block button you can use

I don't care if you if you're small minded enough to take everything to heart

Does the strange thing have to be to do with this thread? :P If so, my great uncle was in the 'RA and disowned my nan when she married an Englishman; and would only call my uncle Sean 'John' because he wasn't Irish :P

If it's random... ermm.. last year, I spent half of my geography lessons discussing banjos, letting homeless people sleep in the classrooms, and red light districts (seriously :/)
