The last 3 gyms i've been a member of have not had one.
It's my favorite piece of equipment, insofar as getting a good sweat going.
I don't know why they are so uncommon because they are much tougher than the pedal variety ones.
If your gym has one, whats the gyms name and where in dublin is it?

My gym has one, so has my house & office and some of the shopping malls I use. In fact, I rarely if ever use an elevator :P

But in all honesty, yes one of the gym's I use has one - and I never use it, infact they've a few.

The gym is TotalFitness, Malahide Rd. Dublin.

its called a Stepmill. They're uncommon as Stairmaster went bust a good few years ago. They are very troublesome and parts are getting harder to get so get the use out of it when ya can!

I've been on one of those in a gym in Hungary it was the funniest thing ever. Reminded me of when I was a kid afraid that the escalator would eat me...

Greystones jacky skelies have 3. at least one of them was broken all the time (when I used to go there).
I like those machines too. You work much harder and with better posture than on those 'pedal' ones.

Crunch UCD has a few. They are effective and have good novelty value but they are a ridiculous piece of equipment at the end of the day.
