Front Squat to Back Squat Ratio

    Hi guys,

Last night at training I did some triples in the Front Squat and on the way home I got thinking about the ratio between my front and back squats and whether or not it's normal to have them close or not.

At the moment I've got a Low Bar Back Squat 1RM of 115kg and a Front Squat 1RM of 95kg (It's less than G'em I know). This gives me a ratio of roughly 1:1.2 for Front Squat:Back Squat. Just wondering how everybody elses ratios compare?

I'd be curious to see how some of the oly lifters compare with traditional power lifters let's say. Obviously if you don't train the front squat your ratio will be skewed hugely but sure post it up anyhow.

    Cheers guys.

This is my observation on squat and variations.
Just an observation mind, I like to think I know Jack ****.

I think the low bar Back squat (like the powerlifters do) should be thought of as a different exercise instead of a variation.

It seems to me the movement and the shape of the High Bar (oly) back squat, front squat and over head squat are different enough from the LBBS to be considered as far apart as Bench and Shoulder press.
A deadlift should assist the LBBS more than the more upright squats.

Even trying to air squat in the different forms feels very different.
So unless you are thinking HBBS and FS, its kind of irrelevant. IMO.

    As I said, Jack ****.

I get what you mean alright, the movement pattern is quite different. I've never done high bar oly back squats, only low bar stuff. There is huge similarity between the front squat and overhead squat but not so much between them and the back squat. Still though, I'm as much interested in the relationship between my shoulder press and bench as I am in this. Just curious to see whether the two converge or not.

My front squat has always been about 90% of my back squat but I think people can vary a lot

Do you do olympic lifting Spiral? Or just train the front squat regularly?

best back squat = 190kg to the deck

x grip front squat 150kg and an o grip i recently missed the 140kg but have only started doing o grip

personally a big front squat is much more impressive

    hey man

my routine is upper / lower

took a vid of the upper the other day -

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnMFojH7ZeA

often it goes upper/ lower / off / upper / lower / off

it just depends on how i feel and with work etc

my lower day is deadlifts - just started back at heavy stuff after grappling injury last year so last month started off with 100kg for 5 x 5 and worked up to a 200kg dead recently which is close to where i was

i deadlift then front squat - front squat reps / sets based on how i feel after deads

Bobby O lift but technique far from stellar to be honest. But the ratio has stayed fairly constant for me and my squat technique is reasonable High bar back squat 135 , front squat 120

with regards to the ratio between back and front squat, "ideally, a lifter's back and front squat should both be 150% of what they are now"
