What putter do you use?

I'm in the market for a new putter, having used my current club for around 7 years. The problem is that picking a putter is like picking a watch - it's a very personal thing and there are so many factors to consider, much more than for any other club in the bag, IMO.

I have tried lots of the new putters out there, the Odessey's, the TM's, and so far nothing has come close to my old putter. I definitely feel that I need some assistance with the alignment of my putting as I'm using a Ping Zing with no lines or anything like that, hence the need for an upgrade.

So what putters are you guys using and where is the best selection of putters in a shop that I can visit?

I use a YES putter..Dianne...the guy names all,the putters after nis ex girlfriends

It is a C groove putter and since I changed back from a 2 ball odyssey I have got my feel back for putts...and my putting has improved because my confidence has improved which is down to the consistency of the putter....and a little bit to me too

I use an MD Golf Rio putter.... It has an alignment mark and is cheap. 29 putts in Newlands last week for 42 points off 21 Hcp:eek:!
As you said it is a personal thing so try lots!!
I was in American Golf in Dundrum yesterday and they had a large selection there!
You could use a lump of bog oak if it works for you!!

I use one of the Yes c-groove putters too, mine is Sophia, by far the nicest putter i've ever held, i've had a couple scotty camerons too but they are nothing compared to it imo. The weight of it takes a bit of getting used to as its heavier than most putters, and shorter but i love the feel of it. But again that is in my opinion, a putter has to be right for you, has to look right, has to sit right, try out a few different ones and go from there.

I've got a Ray cook gyro putter. Delivered from the US via ebay for less than 50 euro. Lovely alignment aid, and superb feel. Its a mallet shape, but you can use it on fast or slow greens.

I have an odyssey sabertooth. Only have it a few weeks.
I find it very easy to use on the shorter puts... easy to line up, easy to stroke. But I'm at a loss on longer ones. Hopefully that's just a matter of getting used to it.

I have an odyssey sabertooth as well. Its taking a while to get used of it. Its probably a little bit too light for me

    Ive got this bad boy...

    ping-g2-c67-putter.jpg

and would recommend it to anyone, great weight and feel. Got it cut down aswell and I get a bit of slagging over it the odd time as it is a bit on the small side but it allows me to get my eyes over the ball more easily and get a better strike. Plus the slagging soon stops when I start dropping some putts.

If anyone has a spare or crappy putter lying around I would advise you to get it cut down by about two or three inches but make sure to keep the original weight of the putter and try it out on the putting green. I think any putter I have from here on in will be cut down way below a stanard length.

A yes Victoria 2 mallet is my baby. I had an Odyssey 2ball SRT but couldnt lag putt with it to save my life.....the face was way too soft for me. Since changing to Vicky I feel my stroke is more solid and distance control is not a problem. Picked up a Half Craz-e centre shafted mallet in the pro shop in Ardee a couple of weeks ago and liked the feel of it in my hands....didnt buy it but would like to try it out on the course sometime.
Best way to pick a putter is to have a go with it on the course you play most. The pro in our place will allow you to try before you buy which I should have done before I bought the Odyssey:rolleyes:

    Odyssey Mini Marxmann

    http://shop.callawaygolf.com/Putters/White_Hot_XG/White_Hot_XG_Marxman_Mini.html

Splashed out cause I hadn't bought one in 15 years. Don't plan on buying another one for 15 more years.

Felt the best in my hands when trying them out and like the style

Scotty Camerons are easily the best in my opinion. Any of their models are great but I love the Newports, the same one Tiger uses. They are probably the most expensive putters but the way I justify the price is that you'll have it all your life and won't need another putter, that is as long as you don't start putting badly and then start blaming your putter. Look out for second hand ones too. Friend of mine picked up a second hand one yesterday for 140 euro, improved his putting 10 fold.

Anyone use any of the Rife putters?

    http://rifeputters.com/products/twobar-putters/

I saw one when I was picking up my driver in Fore Golf but didn't get the chance to try it out. I thought it looked quite good though.

You could get a cheaper one though and it could last longer. The one club I don't read too much into is the putter. I'd never buy the most expensive. Gotta save money somewhere...

    I have a Rife 2 bar mallet
    TwoBarHybridMallet-face.png_480x320.png

Got it from fore in the spring of '08 and I'm very happy with it.... 31.75 average this season. It has interchangeable weights but I leave the heavy ones in all the time. The weight keeps my stroke more stable and between that and the lines to aid alignment, it has helped improve my putting a lot.
I'd love to use a traditional blade but I wouldn't be any use with one.

That's the one I was looking at. I can't find anyone else except Fore that sell them, which makes it awkward to test out as they only open on Saturday a month. Nice looking putter.

So which club do you read much into?

Here is a used one, mine was new last year.

I was going to buy this one

    norm-46e22a3ca1398-Happy+Gilmore+(1996).jpeg

but in the end I went for the

    golf_putter_odyssey_srt_2_ball_1.jpg

I got fitted when I was at the Pelz school, so my putter is about 5 inches shorter than a standard putter.

I'm currently using a MacGregor DCT Bellaire. Works better than the scotty or odyssey I've used in the past...or maybe I'm practising more and playing better. I find it works really well on the longer putts, but that's what it's designed to do.

Putting's a personal thing. Some guys will feel better (and consequently) putt better if they've spent €200+ and that's fine. One of the best putters i've seen in recent times was using an old Clerys blade putter, another was using a tour issue bettinardi

I thought you meant €150 for a new one on e-bay, knew it was too good to be true. No comparison really saying it's €300 here or €150 on e-bay when the one on e-bay is second hand.

Used to use an old Wilson putter that only cost me a tenner (pre Euro).
It worked a treat for me & I felt really confident with it. Then my brother went & lost it on me.
Replaced it with this, as it was the closest in weight & feel & putting is starting to get back to where it once was.

    Well I went to the American Golf Store in Dundrum and picked this up;

    odywhxgmarxma.jpg

Very happy with it - it could do with a thicker grip but I'll try it out on some greens tomorrow and see how I get on. I liked the alignment aid though.

I have a Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Limited Edition Button Back with some little custom shop add-ins (Red paint fills instead of brown, some cutom shop stamps). Beeeautiful putter. Ridiculously expensive here (like €600+ expensive) but got it for €395 on Ebay. A guy has got to treat himself y'know!!!
