Salute military vehicle show, August 29th & 30th

    Salute!
The live military vehicle & multi-period re-enactment show returns to the National Show Centre, Swords.

The IAA will be there to promote the sport of Airsoft as we have done in the past with an IAA information stand and a shooting range. The information stand will feature AEGs on display and be staffed by committee members and other volunteers, discussing airsoft with members of the public and giving out information leaflets. The shooting range will allow people a chance to get hands on and do some shooting with an AEG.

That sounds great I always love going to salute but this is my first year going with my airsoft as I only got into it a few months ago. Salute is always a great way to get some cheap skirmishing gear and also its great the way you can just to walk around with your AEG on slung around your back and nobody cares.

Deadly can't wait :D I went last year for the Saturday and ended up getting dragged into loading the mags on the firing range for the whole weekend :D

Only approved poeple will be let walk around the show with RIF.

Section 40. 9(A) is the provision making it illegal to brandish a replica firearm in a public place.

Yes, the re-enactors and other exhibitors at the show do walk around with replica's slung, however this is part of the re-enactment part of the show and no member of the public should do so.

Missed last years for some poxy reason or another so can't wait to get out to this one.

Just to be sure, this venue...is it just that big field beside the Cloghran roundabout?
The one that sometimes has a circus in it?

Yes its the national show centre owned by the kennel club, looks like a big warehouse in the middle of a feild, just off the roundabout by the coachmans inn, youll be hard pushed to miss it, the last couple of years theyve had a chieftan tank outside

That was then, this is now. Since the end of July, brandishing a replica firearm in public can get you 5 years in the North Circular Road Hilton.

Carrying of airsoft devices (amongst several other things) has to be very carefully controlled now, specifically as historical re-enactments and strictly within the show grounds.

    Trinity: "What do we need?"
    Neo: "Bags... lots of bags."

    :)

Always a fun vehicle to park under :)

    Here's a google maps link to the location, looks like they took the picture when the funfair was in town too;

I really wouldn't care if it was the same as last year. If it was half of what was there last year it would still rock :D

I remember that alright. Your fingers were raw at the end of the day. Loading 60,000 bb's manually is not fun.

Of course, some poor people where there until 10pm cleaning up the 60,000 bb's and packing away tents.

...or was that the year before???? I've the memory of a fish with amnesia.

Someone (Richie, Kd, Dex?) should build a speed loader of out an aeg for us this year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

If I recall, KD had purpose built ones he got online that day that creamed themselves.

theres an easier solution. High caps. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,045 ✭✭✭OzCam

Ditto. There's a time and place for everything - even hi-caps.

But if you fill a high-cap, the kids at the firing range will actually fire the entire lot in one go.

The 200 round midcaps and some low-caps where being used if I recall correctly.

Anyway, I should be there this year and would love to take part. I'll donate a few thousand bb's to the firing range if needed.

Can I ask the IAA affiliated retailers (IAA, as they are running the show) to please print out lots of business cards in advance as it makes it easier to answer the question we are asked 5000 times about where to buy airsoft equipment!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

High caps are too messy to explain to people that they need to wind. Midcaps are much simpler. The electric speed loaders I had were great alright but couldn't stand up to the abuse. I'm going to make loading tubes with ram rods instead for this year.

    That should hopefully work then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,045 ✭✭✭OzCam

One solution is to wind up the hicap and let the customer fire off the 30 or so BBs you get from each winding. Say thank you safety on next please and wind it up for the next customer. That and proper muzzle control should do it. I think it's worth a try - either it'll work or it won't.

We started off with something like 10 bags of G&Gs last year and by the end there was like a bag and a half left so I'd vote against high caps. I like the loading rod idea much better on the fingers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,045 ✭✭✭OzCam

OK, if the loading rods work, that's great. We can have a couple of hicaps on standby if it doesn't :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,551 ✭✭✭swiftblade

In 2007 there was a live action display and an equipment display with numerous folk on hand to explain the sport.

In 2008 there was a live action display, an equipment display and a firing range.

To my knowledge there will be the same again this year.

I had an idea on that a long time ago, were you used a loading tube with a cam wheel and a funnel, you rig up the tube on it's side, fix the funnel neer the top of the tube, fixed to a base,on it's side, rig the loading rod on to the cam wheel, as you turn the cam, the rod moves back and ford, loading your mags.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

That sounds like a good idea actually, wouldn't have time to build one before the show though, so good old loading tubes will have to do for now :)

does anyone know what military surplus will be for sale there.
i realise it isnt war and peace but can we get some idea , myself and puding are considering a roadtrip to have a look.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,045 ✭✭✭OzCam

You can have a quick look at the videos from last year on www.salute.ie

Going by last year, I thought there was enough there to justify a trip. Sure I'll buy you a pint anyway. Sellers come over from England, so you might be able to pick up some less common stuff.
