    Let me explain,

I would consider myself a bit of a movie buff. Prob not in the same league as some of you guys but in my real life i'd be the goto guy for film info/reviews.

Anyway, is there any film that would make people here go "omg how could you not have seen it" mine for example i have never seen:

    Scarface
    Shindlers List
I only watched Band of Brothers last week.

    Citizen Kane.

I try to keep up on the more recent films but there is a raft of older films I have on a list to get through.

Harold and Maude. I bought it on DVD and have it sitting on my bookshelf now but I find the cover rather uninspiring so haven't watched it yet. I'll have completed the IMDB 250 if I watch it.

Boom, I recently "acquired it" and will be sitting down to view this hopefully in the next few days.

I hear numerous people saying they have no desire to view slumdog but I can assure you that if you do you will be presently surprised.

I was not that impressed with Slumdog. The way the critics and people went on I you'd swear it was the greatest thing ever committed to film. It's a very average film and one which is in no way deserving of the number of Oscars it received. It's not a bad film, it's just distractingly average.

It is average enough in terms of its plot but, IMO, Boyle's direction, particularly in the action sequences, lifts this film above the norm. His use of colour, light and location make it leap off the screen in places.

It definitely didn't deserve the circus of media attention it received (although, it's understandable) and you shouldn't pretend to care what the Academy thinks - it's made far worse decisions than this in its time.

OT - I feel like watching some of those 'great' '60's French or Italian films - any good jumping-off points?

Over-rated for sure, it was OK.. I did watch it pre-hype though so maybe I'm missing something? ;)

Ditto... I absolutely adore the soundtrack, and somehow even ended up with 2 copies of it, so I should really get around to watching it... Have a free house tonight so I might throw it on.

Alien - I absolutely loved Aliens and Alien 3, but have yet to get around to watching this...
    Serpico - I'm a massive Pacino fan
The Godfather Trilogy - In my defence I started watching the first one 6 months ago and loved it... Was one of those "I'll watch the rest of it tomorrow" jobs:P
Glengarry Glen Ross - as with all of the above this is sitting in my DVD collection waiting to be watched...

Ok ok, i will put my hands up.

I have never seen The Big Lebowski.

    :o

I've seen loads of movies but constantly hear "OMG, YOU'VE NEVER SEEN *insert movie name here*!"
I've never seen Pulp Fiction, I own it on dvd and tried to watch it once but didn't really happen and now I can't 'cause it just reminds me of other things!

I've never seen Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I own that on dvd too, haven't watched it.

Hmm, Schindler's List. American History X. Amelie. I didn't see Slumdog Millionaire. I've only seen the end of King Kong and everyone tells me I should watch that. The Lord of the Rings. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

    Basically LOADS!

    Pulp Fiction
    Rocky
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

The Godfather part II, I've had it on DVD for about 6 years but I just haven't got around to it, there are probably a few more in my collection I should watch too - so many films so little time!

Haven't gone anywhere near Slumdog and I'm not particularly bothered about it.

I haven't seen ANY of the Godfathers..bit of a faux par for a movie fan!:o

Well i didn't see the godfather until last week to wonder what the hype was all about.

Turned out to be a long boring film IMO.

I wouldn't say that. They're not the greatest films ever, but they're worth watching. Resevoir dogs i'd say is a decent enough film. Both have good soundtracks (even if he pushes it too much and bases a lot of his filming around the music rather than the scene), but RD is one i'd watch over.

    i agree with iceman,

Both overratted for sure but RD is def worth a watch and i guess pulp fiction is too for the soundtrack.

watch Glengarry Glenross first, my all-time favourite...Jack Lemmon's portrayal of a struggling working man is brilliant, and Al Pacino's rant is unforgettable

American History X is one I've missed so far

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,380 ✭✭✭VonLuck

Hehe, when I was watching Glengarry Glen Ross all I could think of was Gil from the Simpsons. :D

    Films I haven't seen:
Das Boot (want to watch but its so damn long).
Godfather 2 (watched the first one, didn't find it amazing tbh)
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (never had the opportunity)
Rocky (Wanted to watch it recently but it was the newest one :/ )
