Will be €25 per month + €5 for multiroom.

    From:

    http://www.racinguk.com/page/AffiliateScheme/0,,12542~1742933,00.html

    Quote:

Racing UK will also revert to being a stand-alone channel in the Republic of Ireland.

The move means that Racing UK will no longer be available via a Setanta Ireland Sky subscription.

The new price point is €25 a month (€5 less than the €30 launch price) and this will also include the £9.99 monthly subscription to Racing UK's online player. Subscribers will also continue to benefit from free race day tickets and members' club packs. Multi-boxes are an extra €5 per month.

As in the UK, Irish subscriptions to Racing UK will be taken from August 10, before encryption on August 16.

Two days later signals the start of York's Ebor festival and Racing UK is the only channel where you can see all 24 races live.

    To order a TV subscription, please call 0844 855 1881 (UK) or 0818 776 700 (ROI) from August 10, or visit www.racinguk.com.

That's horse racing fans now not giving a **** about the Setanta package. Setanta is even more grossly overpriced now

    Correct....

    I will be cancelling immediately....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 742 ✭✭✭channelsurfer

how on earth can setanta survive at 16.99 a month at this stage??? if I went to a bank and said to the manager I plan to charge 16.99 a month and my only real exclusive product is 5th choice 3pm saturday league matches such as liverpool versus any team but the top 10......and a few magners league games that I cant get on S4C or BBC wales ....I would be ran out of the bank...racing uk I read has dedicated fans and will survive because they want the horseracing but yes another death knell in setantas coffin.

    Correct....

    I will be cancelling immediately....

As I've said before, I am on a fiver a month deal until the Oct payment is due.
After this news, the absolute maximum I will subscribe for is €4.99 a month and that ain't gonna happen so I'll be gone then.

i got this from Setanta 2 weeks ago......

".....We are pleased to inform you that Setanta Sports will continue to support RUK in the future....."

How long did they think they could string people along for?

The game is up for Setanta Ireland......

Would the last man out turn off the lights, please???

I'm fed up of their lies too.
I rang them the other day and they told me Racing UK would remain part of the package. It's the only reason I didn't cancel!
They're insane if they think people will pay €16.99 now!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 529 ✭✭✭Pat Gleeson

They obviously think the 3pm EPL games will be enough on their own to keep enough subs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 300 ✭✭pricewise987

    Just received this from Setanta

".......Unfortunately Racing UK will no longer be apart of the Setanta package. We apologise in advance for any mislead information that you may think Setanta Sports has provided, but it was a decision that has only been announced over the past few days and it was something that was out of our control as up until yesterday it was still part of our package. Racing UK will now be a separate subscription channel on their own. Setanta Sports still has a lot of great content including 33 Barclays premier league games, champions league, GAA, Magners League Rugby and Motor sports........"

Only a matter of time before Setanta Ireland folds as well.....

i got an email from them on saturday and there was no mention of racing Uk at all.they must have known for a while they were losing Racing UK.€5 a month is all its worth now.i cant see them staying afloat much longer.will they even have the money to pay for the EPL rights or is this already paid up for the year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 76 ✭✭coupland

If you call them and tell them you are cancelling, they will offer you the next two months for £5 per month. I'll be cancelling after that///

    Gents,
May I ask you for some clarification on this, please.
RUK is an essential to me ............. it is the only PPV channel that I take.
So, do I immediately cancel with Setanta and then telephone RUK directly to confirm my continued subscription?

I have read and re-read this thread and looked at the RUK link, and I think I understand the situation is as above, but I want to be absolutely certain before I go cancelling with Setanta.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

    Hi pro_gnostic_8

Yes - you will need to cancel Setanta and re-subscribe to RUK.

RUK is being encrypted again next Sunday 16th August and you will need to contact RUK before then....

please read what they have said at the bottom of this message....

Setanta will offer to try and keep you as a customer at €5 per month for the next 6 months but if you only want RUK i guess there is no point in doing this

Your new subscription with RUK will also give you access to the online RUK player so you can either watch on TV or online for the same price...

    Hope this helps....

"... Racing UK Sky Channel 432 is to resume subscriptions on August 10
Leading horse racing television channel Racing UK has announced it will once again be taking UK & Ireland subscriptions from Monday, August 10.
Following Setanta's entry into administration on June 23, Racing UK now operates as a stand-alone channel, and has been broadcasting uninterrupted and free to air to all Setanta UK subscribers on Sky Channel 432.
The free-to-air coverage will continue until August 16 - two days before York's Ebor Festival starts - before encryption. New subscribers will only be charged from this date and there is no joining fee or minimum contract.

As a goodwill gesture, annual subscribers, who lost money when Setanta closed, will get the channel free until their next annual renewal date.

Ahhh, that's great, Pricewise -- very many thanks for that.
That is how I (half) understood it, ................ I guess I needed re-assurance that I would not be depriving myself of RUK delivery if I arranged a divorce from Setanta.
I'll be talking to Setanta tomozz to say meh goodbyes.

Thank you again for your help.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,604 ✭✭✭200motels

I think it's a total disgrace Setanta charging 16.99 a month and then they also want 14.99 to reconnect, which I won't be doing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 300 ✭✭pricewise987

    totally agree....

    never worth €16.99 a month

if you try and cancel you'll get it for €5 for the next 6 months......

is it even worth throwing a fiver at it.....

maybe for the 3 pm. premier league games.....

    Quote from the RUK website:
"The free-to-air coverage will continue until August 16 - two days before York's Ebor Festival starts - before encryption."

    "Before Encryption" ................. Hmmmmm
Gents, would any of you know if encryption would result in a consequent time-delay in picture delivery.?
Any extra time-lapse over the current one-second disparity between pictures and real-time would greatly affect me, and quite possibly be a deterrent to re-subscribing to RUK directly.
I'ld be very grateful if anyone could clarify this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

would any of you know if encryption would result in a consequent time-delay in picture delivery.?

There would be no delay due to encryption.
Forgot to mention Racing UK has always been encrypted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,223 ✭✭✭pro_gnostic_8

Cheers Monk, thank you for that.
I was a little bit troubled that putting the live-feed signal from the racecourse though an encryption process might delay the picture delivery .......... even if only by a second.
That extra one-second delay might seem inconsequential to many, but it is a crucial factor when wagering "In-Running" during a horserace.
    Thanks again.

I've just cancelled with Setanta Ireland ............... and I detected a definite mood of resignation -- a sort of "que sera sera" -- in the Newry callcentre.
The chap at the other end didn't even try to offer me the €5 p/month inducement to stay.

I kinda felt sorry for them; so much so I bade them best wishes for the future. :o

Similar mood when I called. "Do you not like Premiership football" she asked. "I am not a Liverpool supporter and you dont have the UFC anymore" I replied. Then she processed the cancellation without offering anything. Happy days.

i went for the €5 a month option for 6 months....

but after that offer runs out i'll be packing my bags and checking out of Setanta Towers as well.....

    no RUK--no Golf--no sat/mon evening Premier League

i suppose with the lack of content they can't really lose money as they will have nothing that they actually have to pay for.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 200 ✭✭bohspunks

I actally tried to subscribe today but they couldnt take me as though i have a sky box i have no card and they dont have cards for satellite to send out - whoever negotiated that deal with sky isn't going to win any business awards!

    Setanta had the same problem.

I couldn't get the 5 euro offer no matter how hard I tried, so I went for the best offer they had 10.99 for six months which is not too bad, not as good a deal you got but what harm I'm a Football nut so I had to have it.

11 euro for one game a week? wow - and who said there was a recession :)

    Racing Uk 25 a month???????????

How can that be in any way justified?

YOu paid less than that a month for the entire setanta package last year and that included Racng UK.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23 Hussard

I used to subscribe to Racing UK before the tie up with Setanta. At the time it cost £20 sterling from (hazy) memory so Setanta was a great deal. Possibly too great as time has shown. The Racing UK online subscription looks better value if you have a good spec computer. Does anyone know can you watch that from outside UK and Ireland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 300 ✭✭pricewise987

RUK was €30 when it was launched in 2004....

You get it for €25 now and access to the online player...

Not a bad deal - but yes it was better as part of the Setanta bundle....

You can sign-up of for an International Subscription for £24.99....

25 quid is insane - they don't even have all the racing.

If ATR copied them you would be paying 50 quid a month to watch racing.

    Absolute madness.

the funny thing is pre-setanta racing uk was profitable with 55000 subscribers willing to pay 20pounds a month.....so they seem to have a good business model.

    I am a racing fan.

25 quid is way overpriced in my opinion.

RUK do not have any advertising revenue......

Subscribers keep the channel on air......

RUK have the best racing from the best courses so for me it is worth 80c a day....

The value all depends on how much you watch it i suppose.....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20 mr.r

Not worth it...unless you don't have a Job and watch it everyday. I'd watch it for a day once a week. Would rather watch on betfair than give em 25 quid a month.!

Yes, it is worth it, Mr.R!
By all means, watch it on streaming Betfair ............. if you're happy with the 15-second lapse with realtime.
    ZOLTAN28 wrote: »

Monthly €25 sub x 4 is easily recouped in one day's lazy punting In-Running with the time advantage (compared with ATR) that RUK provides!
I'm using RUK every single day -- afternoons and evenings. It's reasonable value at 80cent p/day to me. Please refrain from labelling those of us who are willing to stump-up that scrip as complete morons, yeah?

Here's the prob I'm having at the moment. Has anyone on here actually subscribed as yet to RUK directly? For the last 48 hours I'm getting "We're currently experiencing high-call volumes. Please try again later" on the 0818 776700 number. And the RUK site won't accept my on-line application.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 300 ✭✭pricewise987

    hey pro_gnostic_8

you have to keep trying the 0818 776700 number

i got that message a few times as well but i got through eventually...

you get the online access as well so ask them to email you the details of how to login - think they have to pass that request to another dept....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,223 ✭✭✭pro_gnostic_8

    Hi Pricewise,
Yeh, I'm familiar with the online access to race viewing via the RUK website.
But I was referring to trying to make an online subscription to RUK -- which can't be done via the site even though RUK are advertising it. (Maybe it is only Irish applications which are having this difficulty).

I'll keep trying the telephone number, although meh patience is wearing thin, tbh. Phuck knows what it is costing me in phone billing so far.:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 300 ✭✭pricewise987

    hey pro_gnostic_8

tried the online method as well - doesn't work

bit like ESPN - works for UK only....

still you have only Sunday b4 the picture gets encrypted

bit like ESPN - works for UK only....

It works here also. It can take a few days but it definately works.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,223 ✭✭✭pro_gnostic_8

Well Monk, I dunno anything about ESPN ............ but an online application for RUK for sure doesn't work. You fill in all the required fields with address detalis and viewing card number etc, and you get refused at the end. "We're sorry, we cannot accept this registration", blah blah.

And I'm getting sick of trying to make contact via phone -- they won't answer. Keeping in mind this is an 0818 number charged at national rate ( with a percentage of that going into RUK coffers) makes it all the more unpalatable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 444 ✭✭mburke

Slighty off topic but have Setanta lost the plot ? I noticed on the weekend papers that they are still charging a connection fee to get connected on Satellite, madness imo and what is with their website, can they not hire someone to put correct pricing etc on it.

Finally go on and got it sorted - the wait is half an hour though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,223 ✭✭✭pro_gnostic_8

    Unbelieveably frustrating, isn't it!
If I totalled up the time spent "on-hold" since Monday of this week I would guess at a round figure of about 3 hours. And that at national call rates too!!!
I only tried once today and hung up after 2 minutes.
They can go and get stuffed. I'm not throwing any more time or money at it for the time being.
(Maybe I'll try in a week or two when demand has died down a bit).
