    Hi all,
Great forum going on here.Hey Woddle.

We are aiming to have a cracking race this year in Firhouse on September 12th and have just confirmed the course as the same as last year.
We will be keeping the blog up to date with the course, elevation etc and photos will be up this week.
I have discussed a special promo for the boards AC with Woddle and we need to finalise the layout in terms of prizes etc.... Alot will depend on the amount of Boards AC members who are running.

Hope to see as many of you there as possible.
    All info,course layout and
On line registration is available here: http://gersrunning.com/blog/

Great race last year Ger - nice fast course also.
One gripe - will you have k markers all the way round and in the right spot this year?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,608 ✭✭✭donothoponpop

+1, great race, deserves to have a lot more support this year. Two super fast laps of Firhouse, nice and flat course, great tech top for finishers. My only small gripe is, like BB67, the k markers need a bit more prominence and accuracy, but thats just nitpicking, I'll certainly be there again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

I'd be tempted to do this, especially because I do quite a bit of my training on parts of the course! That said, it really doesn't fit in with the schedule...

    Hey beep beep,

yea that was actually an oversight if you can imagine that ;). We had a marker man in a van.... But he didnt show up.
This year we will make sure its a more reliable marker man.
The map we posted has the KM markers to give you guys an idea of the course if you are running it.

Thanks for the comment and support.

Thanks for the comment and hope to see you there.

    Cheers

I'd been considering doing this but I've already shelled out to run the half in Dingle that day.

    Ah thats a pity.
    Hopefully next year.
Have a great race in Dingle.

Will have to miss this one... I have to go to a wedding that day... a friend of herself (and therefore a friend of mine ;)). Don't reckon I'd make it back in time, and not worth the risk!!

Will definitely be doing this race, ran it last year and enjoyed it a lot. Although Im not sure about it being a fast course. I run that route on a regular basis and theres a steady climb from mortons pub to the old mill. Or maybe thats just my excuse for the dodgy time I ran last year.........

I'm going to run ( first time for me for this race) - looking forward to it

I agree with Tunguska on this. I run this route occasionally as well and there a few places where you need to work hard. However besides this I enjoyed this race last year and will be doing it again.

Ger, I wore last year's tee shirt in the marathon. Will we be getting one again?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 371 ✭✭AJCOT

Finest tech tee shirt I've ever had, high visibility & super distinctive! More of the same please.

I'm probably going to be doing a 10k in Scarrif that weekend and Dublin is the wrong side of the country anyway but it would be great to see a good turnout at this race. Am I right in thinking there are some specific BAC prizes lined up?

Yep Ger is being brill here, not too sure what the format is, I was thinking teams made up of 2 (Boards AC members), so get a list of who is running and pick names out of a hat for making the teams. Club singlet is encouraged. Anyone got any other suggestions for format ?

Random teams of two, picked the night before the race, cumulative placings, seem fair.

Most recent 5k+ race time popped in McMillian to get 10k rankings.
    Teams are then made up from rank 1, 4, 5, 8, etc versus rank 2, 3, 6, 7, etc.

Or pick 2 captains, 1st picker picks one and then in doubles after that (school ground football technique).

Maybe add some conditions like the WWR, 2 females, 2 vets, etc.

Beyond that it could be a typical points (placing) challenge or total time.

Am I making this too complex :confused:, I'll stop now :D.

It should be "club singlet is a must". If you're involved in a race within a race you need to know who the people you are against are. If someone's not in a singlet you've no idea you're racing them - especially when you've never met anyone in your club in the real world!

    total time.

I like the idea of total time and if teams of 2 well then seed 1+8, 2+7, 3+6?

+1 to the seeding arrangement Woddle posted above, and I can see how cumulative time would keep both team members on their toes to the finish line!

A random mix or an age related mix could work too...

A random mix or an age related mix could work too...

Wha', have my team time slowed down by one of those M40's above?... like, eh, SJ or BB...oh, hang on a minute...:o

A random mix could even work if you didn't know who you were paired with till after the race. But my vote is still for the McMillan seeded idea- first paired with last etc. I suppose it depends on how many sign up to runs (from Boards). If we have a lot, we can insist on a vet or female, a la WW Relay, and make a few teams: if there's a moderate amount of nearly all lads, we can go for random/seeded pairings?

was thinking i would partake in this event. sent an email off to Ger earlier about entering, didn't realise he was a boardsie. it will be my first race, but i have raced before on bike... if that is at all comparable.

tbh honest i went for my first run on saturday and really enjoyed it. am keen to throw myself in the deep end, as there is somewhat of a void after hanging up the bikes.

can anyone offer me some basic advice for preparing for this 10km? i plan to run tuesday evening anywhere from 6-10km, i will time myself and record my HR if i get a HRM watch by then. many thanks, brian

I need to sort out an idea of prizes :)

In fairness there is a bit of a drag from Mortons to the Speaker Connolly.
I live just off the Ballycullen Road and use this route quite alot myself.

I actually like that section as it gets the lungs going and perfect for when you are tearing down the long decline on the Ballycullen road.

Hope to see you there and get a PB to boot.....

    Hey BA,

Look forward to seeing you there. You will love. unfortunately as most on here will vouch for,Once you start racing its bloody addictive and life becomes a constant battle of trying to beat your last time.

I would say if this is your first race,Enjoy it and dont get too hung up on time.

There are the Elite men and women up front with WODDLe ;) and then everyone else.

    Have a great day.

Ok folks I need to get def numbers so Pearl izumi can decide on what and how many prizes to put up. So if you could do the following would be great. If your running it,
    1. Stick your name down
    2. Put your most recent race into mcmillanrunning
3.Write down the race distance and time you did and write down your equivelant 10k time.

This is all so we can organise the pairings. As said before seed 1 will go with last seed, seed 2 will go with second last seed. The winning team will be based on the sum of the pairings time. Example SloggerJogger and I are paired together, he runs 40 mins and I run 50 mins so its up to the other pairings to better SJ and my time of 90 mins.

Maybe someone could organise a table for me, no idea how you do it.
