that tripod looks good how it holds the gun, iv got a small tripod i might try it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭Firekitten

Its basically neoprine lined, its a rest essentially... the stand will hold the rifle supported, but it cant be left in there... there are models that can, but in necesity for an event, i chose to simplify it. It still works, and if im not using it, i wont be leaving the rifle there!

Good article, but can the photos be shrunk a bit - on my 1024x768 laptop, I end up having to scroll left and right to read the long lines... 640x480 would be better I think.

Sorry, not sure I know how to... the topic is locked till i add the next installment, and ive not a clue about html stuff... I'll ask and see what i can do.
    Thanks btw.

Its not even a remotely hard question... Its common knowlage to the most basic of airsofters with no technical experience
    ...............
Its about as technically demanding as scratching your head.

it should be very easy for you
check out the above quote from another topic on this forum

Perhaps you should stop trolling? And did you notice the topic with the photos in is locked? unable to edit it after its locked...

I dont understand, first you thank the article... then you come in here and have a dig? I'd rather you didnt even post at all to be honest. Now we have lost the point, thanks a million though.

Let's keep everything positive *insert idiotic face here*
I enjoyed the article and thought it gave good insights on how how to be an effective sniper.
Look forward to the next one!

if the article you are refering to is your review of the Ares TAR-21
i dont believe i thanked you review
although i did enjoy it, a well thought out and well writen piece
nice to have the openion of an owner/user and the added bonus of some photos to show your points.

what i was refering to was some of your comments to a fellow poster on this forum who asked for some help/advice about adjusting the motor height
you appeared to have contempt for him due to his lack of knowledge of all things airsoft

PS i also enjoyed your piece on Sniping

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭Firekitten

Odly enough, THe article i was refering to in the discusion topic for the sniper article, was that one... complicated or what?

Would you mind not thread spoiling? You're a tad boring and unoriginal:rolleyes:

a very well thought out and well writen piece
i would love to read more articles like this

if i have given you offence let me apoligise here and now
however i was only quoting you
i was brought up to treat every women as if she was a lady or until she prove otherwise

As i mentioned at the bottom of the article... this thread is also for anything you want covered... As ive not had chance to begin the next section yet, request away...

Really well written article FK. Easy to read with some very interesting facts and opinions. An interesting read all round. I particularly found the sock idea particularly interesting, as it's easy customisable solution to a common problem.

Maybe in the next article consider mentioning the basics of finding cover and positioning in skirmish situations. Maybe also consider sommenting on the sniper's role in an organised group.

I hope this doesn't come across as telling you what to write, I'm just suggestion as per your request. Keep up the good work and I eagerly await the next installment. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭Firekitten

    not at all :)

Tothings clear, I plan to cover the following in the next:
    Basic gear,
the stages of cam and concealment: When to wookie....
movement, the environment, and interacting with it.
and finally, how pick that spot...

As you suggest, I'll look at working with a group, but at a later stage, I'm trying to work this into a 'from the bottom up' article, with more advanced roles coming later. However, anything specific in the bits i mentioned im happy to cover in the next one...

Firekitten, Whats your view on the sidearm a sniper should be packing? Some say a MP5k or MP7, I prefer a GBB pistol but notice that it sometimes is lacking in ROF. Whats your view on Spotters?

These are all upcoming in part two... Its being writen now, I'm just arse deep in aeg work so Its slow getting done... rest assured it will be...

Personally... SMG's are pointless... pack a gbb, or nbb silenced, if you need it, you did something wrong... Spotters ? at sunday games, pointless, at milsim games... really really useful, for a plethora of reasons I'll discuss in the next installment, not just covering your arse when it needs it!

Yep a good sniper will never need a back up. That said if i was buying a gun for that purpose i'd get a tokyo marui mk.23 socom, quieter than a mouse wearing slippers in a church with that silencer.

I personally go with your theory on sidearms - a pistol is more than enough in 99.9% of situations! However my mate Marc disagrees (*cough* COD player *cough*) and says a MP5k is the best. I tried the MP5k, and could not crawl for **** wearing it, it was just... excessive.

I brefer GBB over NBB simply for the satisfaction a GBB gives me to use - a NBB just never can feel the same (LOVE my KJW GBB CO2 M9).

Silly question... But do the silencers have any advantage? ON the TM MP5SD6 it has **** all effect except lookin good :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭Firekitten

Depends... On some it can, some it cant... its horses for corses, but generally on a gbb nope.. its pretty useless bar looks... what isnt in airsoft?

Being fair on my opinions, I did use my mp5k one day for a backup... i put it on a single point sling, and it clipped into a web strap loop with fastex clips on the back of my blast belt... it was bulky... flapped, and got in the way.... pretty pointless, and the only time i used it, was when i dumped the sniper rifle and cleared a building at the end of the day for giggles...a pistol would have done too... tbh, weight is a pain in the butt, and for me, i dislike them. But they arent wrong... if someone genuinely likes a smg for backup, fair play... This series of articles isnt to tell people what to do.. but give advice and reasons for that advice to allow people to make thier minds up...

    Thanks for the comments :)

Being a sniper in Airsoft is nothing like a videogame. You can't rampage, killing all in your path. Being an Airsoft sniper requires patience and skill, which is why I hate Sniper Riffles and use a Shotgun or Aeg instead! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭Firekitten

    And...thank you for your input...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 816 ✭✭✭gungun

fantastic stuff FK:) that tri-pod looks awesome
just a quick thing on the sidearm issue....glock 18c?:p

and thank god for transition year:rolleyes:
should give me the time to get my gear together:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭Firekitten

g18c is an interesting one... its a pistol with full auto capability... Imo... good call really... its holsterable, but yet has that firepower INCASE you need it... if not, it has semi...

Oh a good tip is aeps with silencers... really quiet, and no gas requirements.

Brilliant review FK. I was thinking of getting a sniper rifle myself, maybe a JG BAR 10. Anyway I'm not sure if I'd like sniping enough to spend that sort of money on a sniper rifle. I love using my friend's m 14, (it has a tightbore) when he lets me, to sit back and cover my team mates from a distance, but I don't know if a bolt action would suit me. Any opinions on whether it's worth the risk?

And this is open to anyone with advice, not just FireKitten. Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭Firekitten

semi auto rifles have a place too... as a soviet sniper once said (i read a book by the guy but i cant remember his name...) the semi auto rifle allows for correction before the target realises they've been fired at... Tbh, the m14 is a good rifle for the job. with the right upgrades, one can be quite a suitable entry to sniping. you dont have to use a bolt action rifle for this :P its half the look, half effectiveness... but no role is the same... you seem to like playing the marksman role, so go with what works for you.

Just remember, if putting a scope on the m14, make sure the mount is level first of the scope will never zero... i had to shim a mount up on sunday to get the crosshairs anywhere near the bbs... (yes, I'm looking at you smokerkl)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 863 ✭✭✭MonkeyGuy

Thanks. So any recommendations (spelling bad) on an AEG? Preferably something that uses m4 mags because I've a rake of them, but something else would be good too. I know this might sound stupid but probably not an m14, because I'd like a different gun to my friend. And Koodos (or however you spell it) on the quick reply!

The a4 is the SPR right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 997 ✭✭✭.22 Lover

No the A4 is not the SPR.The A4 has no RAS handguard

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 997 ✭✭✭.22 Lover

    The SPR
    db-aeg-5281m_1_mark.jpgfile_41_12.jpg The A4

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 863 ✭✭✭MonkeyGuy

So what is it that makes the a4 different? It looks much the same as the a2 to me. (Feel free to criticise my lack of knowledge on m16s) And anyway, besides that, I think I might get a bolt action rifle now in case I decide to go down FireKittens school of sniping later, which I think I might.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 997 ✭✭✭.22 Lover

OK ill tell you now i am a gun nerd.On the real M16A4 Most of them are fitted with an RIS hand guard but most of the changes are internal and it doesn't come with the distinctive carry handle as standard plus it only has 3 shot bust no full auto .The SPR is semi auto only and has a different flash hider

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 863 ✭✭✭MonkeyGuy

Right it's just I heard somewhere that the a4 is also known as the SPR, or I just imagined it... Anyway, if I'm going down the Bolt Action route is the JG BAR 10 an obvious choice or am I overlooking something?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 452 ✭✭Phractal

There is an idea rattling around my head for AGES that is finally coming out. Those AGM M4 GBBr look nice... So maybe an M-16 barrel assembly can be mounted, also a fized stock. Now a bipod/tripod, scope, tightbore, etc and what have you but a gas blowback, select fire snipers weapon. I am applying this train of thaught to my choice of the AUG A1 as my new weapon and I will use it to snipe as it changes me from 'sniper - liability in CQB' to 'sniper/scout - useful in CQB'. Sure the '1337 k3wL sn1p3rz' may bitch and moan that I am defiling their fine art but **** that, I am a PRACTICAL person. I use what WORKS. I find that 99.9% of the time a Leatherman (multi use) beats a precision scalpel, except for medical procedures. And I have used my Leatherman in medically saving my right hand while waiting for someone to get my ass to hospital! It was not pretty, but it bloody well worked!

The G-18c as snipers secondary is an interesting proposition, as it is a compact, high fire power tool. I am getting a second hand KSC M11 off a mate for thirty quid soon and that will become my tertiary weapon - my last ditch 'wall o plastic' for when I have to really burn up the gas and move my ass. This is also why I want a sniper with option for F/A. SO I can deliver heavy volume of fire IF it goes horribly wrong. NOT so I can spray, pray and brag about the 'uber kill streak' I got.

I just hope you have lots of spare mags

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭Firekitten

Actually... the m16a4 is the current issue USMC rifle made by FN... it has a m5 ris handguard, and is essentially the same as the m16a3 in a all external other regards. the spr is a custom SPECIAL PURPOSE RIFLE, with free float RAS, in the mod1 version, and tubular handguard in the 0, neither is as long as the m16, and has a different muzzle brake.

Firstly, Gbb ar15s to date, are not good enough to be sniper weapons without a LOT of work and money, (also a spr upper is available)

To be honest, the whole concept is interesting Phractal... A sniper's job, or marksman's job, isnt to be in cqb, thats the door kickers job... if you want to do both... by all means do both, Hell, I do too... but i Dont do them at the same time... Or if I do need to, I carry an aeg, AND my bolt action in a drag bag to be able to fight as infantry... The aug is a good DMR rifle for airsoft purposes, but its not quite 'a sniper rifle' by any means.

Mmm, m11 is about as ungainly as the mp5k... I'd not recomend it, the g18c atleast has semi... and gets you out of the jam... a tertiary weapon is unnecesery.... As for uber kill streaks... Go back to call of duty multi player :P I think they miss you. :P

OK you know more then me i may know alot about firearms in general but not the specifications on all of them.Personally i like to have a glock 17 because there very reliable an have a decent mag capacity plus if you need massive firepower when sniping your doing something wrong
