You're going to love this post so 😁

After doing a rough mock up a while back a friend of mine finally made decals and with some input from me we came up with this yesterday.

Looks great, especially the added red on the bellypan / lower fairing. Bike should come stock with it and in that colour 👍

Been breaking in some new boots I picked up from Celtic Rider in Kildare as I want them for a Spain trip I'm doing on Thursday.

I must say they are a sound bunch of lads, was chatting away and showing me around the place and he unexpectedly made me take out the new GSA for a spin. Great bike tbh and it's an improvement in every way over my own except in the looks department - visually it just doesn't do it for me.

I'm approaching four years of ownership of mine and could be 4 more by the looks of things.

1 week down as a rider, absolutely loving it. This bike is sweet as hell too.

Few jobs needed on it, fork seels are leaking, someone broke a stud on the crank case breather so I'll need to remove and replace that AND the carbs/choke need a clean. It's idling at around 800rpm and cuts out at idle, pretty annoying at lights etc.

Should be a knob to adjust the idle speed? 1000 would be more like it

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

Seems happy at about 1500rpm, I'll see how is handles on the way home.

    Thanks bud!!

    Should be about 1000 - 1200
If it's struggling at that range, the idle Fuel / Air mix might be off.

If the floats are set up wrong it will struggle too.
Floats too low can lead to a Rich mix, floats set to high can be lean.

"Which is the most fun most of the time?"

Definitely the Hypermotard, it is the most fun of any bike I've owned. The 1098s is great for a short blast, but too uncomfortable for anything over an hour. Every time I swing my leg over the RS250, I'm transported back to being 16 again, it's so light and nimble, and that two stroke powerband is just amazing. They are all keepers

Was looking into getting a 1098s last year but it was a little more than I was willing to pay. Lovely bike.

Another bike on my radar was one of these Benelli Cafe Racers.

One popped up on donedeal last year that was a good price but was gone while I was thinking about it.

Might be a niche market but something like that will shift quickly if priced right.

    The 250 2strokes are dynamite.

    Nice selection you have there.

Wow, that benelli is nice, I hadn't seen one of them before. The 1098s are making strong money alright, I have mine since 2014, they are making as much now as it cost me back then!

There's a Benelli over the road from me, left there for around a year.

A bit tatty, not sure if it's for sale or what.

Proper Italian machine as well not Chinese.

1500 idle is too much, there is always some clutch drag on any bike with a wet clutch, so engaging first gear with the idle speed too high will cause a bigger bang than it should

I once got home after snapping the throttle cable by whacking the idle up. The joys of carbs 😀

Look up what the recommended idle is, it's unlikely to be more than 1100. If it won't run smoothly at that (when engine is warm) then the carbs need balancing or cleaning - not impossible there's a duff plug or coil, or a valve clearance is way off - but most likely the carbs.

I used to be wary of fuel injection, thought it too complex and possibly unreliable, but it's never let me down. Carbs on the other hand are a liability in cold weather (icing), or when a bike is laid up (gumming up) or when a float punctures or a jet blocks or a diaphragm tears…

I used to have a carbed bike that had to be let run for at least two minutes on the choke on a cold morming before riding off. If I tried to ride off with the choke still on, it'd stutter and surge (just what you want, mid-corner) and if it was 3-4 degrees C and humid, carb icing was a certainty so it needed even more warm up time. Ironically if the air is actually freezing it won't hold any moisture, so carbs won't ice up!

With fuel injection it's hit the starter and go, whatever the weather. Giving the engine some (gentle) work to do, rather than idling, gets it warmed up quicker and avoids excessive fuel diluting the engine oil causing upper cylinder wear

Made the best of the weather.

    Headed to Mayo on Saturday.

Stayed in Swinford, Went from there on Sunday along the west coast and got a hotel near Abbeyfeale in Limerick last night.

From there then today headed to Tralee and did the Ring of Kerry, back via Cork and home to Co. Waterford.

    Over 1000km, pure bliss.

If only we had more of this weather.

Pic on ferry to Valencia island earlier today.

    This was outside Tesco earlier.

    Looks like a mid 70's Honda TL125.

Took the blade up to the sally gap for the first time, beautiful up there but the road surface is probably not best suited to a supersport 😄

Yes, well worth the money when you see some of the stuff and prices these days.

Here's another blade I had at one stage.

Had this 848 for a cut earlier.

Same as your 1098 but smaller engine.

    Gorgeous looking bike.

Gave me an itch again 🙈

Just picked it up! Went for the Y-AMT version, very odd not having to manually change gear. Cruise control is so good though
