Excellent attempt from Gerrard but Liverpool have been quite poor so far. Johnson and Kuyt don't look to be on the same wave lenght at all.. Early days though.

    lol, post now..

That stream looks a lot better in WMP by the way. VLC is very harsh looking.

    Lucas having a great game.
GJ looks a bit off the boil.
Gerrard seems to have a personal vandetta with the woodwork!:p

Some very hard tackling so far. There could well be a red card or a ref telling someone to get subbed in this game.

    Very hard hitting friendly.
    Half-time now.

    Espanyol 1 - 0 Liverpool.

    Gerrard hit the woodwork twice.
Espanyol had a second wrongly disallowed for offside.

Been an interesting half so far. I think the difference of not having Alonso in the team is quite apparant though. Lucas has had a good half but does not have the influence that Xabi tends to have on games.

I think Johnson will really shine this season as he has shown glimpses of what he can do, and I think he will prove a good purchase.

Gerrard was very unlucky not to have two goals to his name, but Torres seems quite disinterested, with luck I will have egg on my face after he knocks in a few in the second half if he is not subbed.

I like the new stadium, especially the lights on the outside, would not mind seeing that effect on our new stadium, assuming we live long enough to see it built :D

Really dont see that much of a difference without Alonso (in this game), dont see what he could be doing that Lucas isn't so far. Defence is terrible IMO and is the real difference so far.

    Exactly.
Lucas hasn't put a foot wrong with the exception of his clumsy tackle.
He's been involved in the link up of all our best play, and has threaded through some beautifull passes.
When the reff stays out of the way that is.

Thaught Lucas played very well, his passing was very good and generally had a very good game. For me this game shows me very little really. Defence was poor, San Jose especially was very poor, too many changes to really pass a good judgement on the game. Nothing to suggest Alonso would have added anything extra here TBH. I`m not saying Alonso's not needed just in this game i dont think he'd add much.

Well he is a liverpool player. It would be strange if he came on wearing an espanyol top maybe.

This could be the last time we see him in a Liverpool jersey

Doesn't sound good judging by the comments! What was the score lads? 3-0?

    Ya, 3-0.

Better off losing in pre-season than in the competitive games.

Atletico Madrid will be the perfect game to get things going a week before August 15th.

    What is the stadium like?

    About time they moved.

Lol ironic the real/good Luis Garcia scored, not the fake one who signed for liverpool :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,046 ✭✭✭eZe^

3-0! Whoa... Were Liverpool vastly understrength? What was the Pericos team like? Espanyol nearly got relegated last season, if it wasn't for some heroic form in the last 10 games they'd be in the Segunda Division as we speak..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,441 ✭✭✭✭jesus_thats_gre

Espanyol were very good in fairness to them.

Liverpool were at about 80% with the defence consisting of Johnson, Carragher, San Jose and Insua. The goals, while good goals, were largely a result of some pretty poor defending in the middle.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 9,654 Mod ✭✭✭✭mayordenis

to be honest I only saw the first half and we went in 1 down, after gerrard hitting the post and cross bar, and really unfriendly take down of torres when he was clean through.
I guess they were just really up for this as it was there first game in their new home, but the game was stupidly rough for what is essentially glorified training.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,441 ✭✭✭✭jesus_thats_gre

Some pretty nasty tackles alright.. Masch was guilty of quite a few..

Espanyol the team to watch this season imo. I'm a huge fan of De la Pena and obviously Naka. Both top class playmakers on their day. Should make for sexy football.

De la Pena will be lucky to start 10 league games next season, his appearances for espanyol have become more and more rare as the seasons go on

He played in Espanyol's good run at the end of last season (probably why they finished 10th in the league) and apparently is the fittest he's been in years. He turned down a huge deal to join Spartak Moscow a few weeks ago and was linked with Blackburn so people are expecting a big season from him. And to think Celtic had him on trial...

Didn't know that Naka set up the first goal against Liverpool.

    Luis Garcia:
“I scored thanks to a good pass from Nakamura. I controlled it well before I shot as hard as I could with my left foot. But without his pass, the goal would not have been possible.”
