Yupiteru VT225 problem

    Hi all,
    I have a yupiteru vt225 scanner for a long time now and it is starting to give trouble. It looses memory as soon as batteries are removed. Also when scanning, it scans normally for a while and then the scan rate slows down and i cannot tune in to any frequency even if i manually input the frequency. Is my scanner past its useful life or can it be repaired? I have tried replacing the little internal battery for the memory but cannot find a suitable replacement. If this was replaced, would it solve both problems or just the memory as without it in place, it still scans slowley. If so what type of battery would replace it as there are no markings on the battery? Lil help please!!:confused:

    Is the memory battery like a Euro coin?

    mm diameter and mm thickness?

    The battery is 8mm in diameter and 3mm thick with an indentation all the way round is circumfrence. It is possible it is a capacitor of some sort.

    If you can, take a photo of the battery and post it here.

    It may help to identify it.

    A side view would have helped more :) It's either a small 2 cell NiCd (which will be worn out) or a "super cap".

    Do you have a meter?

    see how long it stays 2.2V, ideally with a 100k Ohm load.

    Seems like a two cell NiCd. 2V near flat and 2.6V charged full.

    Look for dry joints, reflow with tin/lead fluxed solder (lead free is only for newer lead free designs) using desolder braid to remove excess.
