I was in the beta so was in love with it already! Really liking the different modes and stuff that wasn't in the beta. Have only had a few games. Hadn't played in a while so just getting used to it again. So far though it seems people are fairly quick to fall into set groups and actually work as a balanced team in terms of picking classes and stuff. It helps that all the classes are pretty fun to play. I'm playing as a priest at the moment. I found when I was starting it out that it worked best to just pick one class for the first few games and get used to them and their quirks, then start playing some of the other classes.

Still don't like playing as a mage though :P

Hmmm, played it for 2 games with NotorietyH, needless to say he kicked my ass any time i confronted him :P

It's good fun but frustrating in the fact that if your inexperienced you die very quickly and that the amount of players rapdily dwindles throughout the game until your left with 4 people per team by the end! I'll give the arena thing mode a try later on and try hone my skills as it were!

Ooh i love the mages :D Theres some serious scope for tactics with this game. A few mages, a few dark priests and a few healer priests charging the castle and AOEing :D would love to try that.

Anyway absolutely loving the game. It really seems like the devs loved it. The credits are hilarious along with so much else of the game.

Lol half the time I didn't know it was you. I did see you attacking a few people I was healing the odd time, was amusing.

Playing through the single-player a bit will get you fairly used to it, the AI is pretty good. They just don't seem to heal as much. Which is handy enough for training anyway. It's all about getting used to the classes strengths and weaknesses.

Is this worth getting, and what games would you compare it to?

Wouldn't find a game for love nor money earlier... got to play 2 games... one was good... took about 10 minutes... the other took 1 minute... :(

Battlefield meets the level-selection bit in super mario world.

    ...I'm serious.

Strangely enough i cant get into a game either at the moment. Was really enjoying the online. Well the single player is great fun too. The bots are surprisingly good.

    TF2 meets Castle Crashers.

I had a lot of fun playing it last night. Also, best credits sequence ever.

Tried for two hours to get games last night, could only get two... must be day one bugs.

I don't know where either princess is so I am so freaking crap and I do not have a clue what I am at.

:O The game we were playing was a TDM not rescue the princess, that might help ya :P.

Not all the game modes have a princess. If you were playing Invasion it's a capture and hold mode.

Your princess will be in the other teams dungeon if it's a regular princess game I think. The object then if to get your princess back to your throne while keeping the other team's princess in the dungeon.

Then there's like a capture the flag type mode where the other team's princess will be on the throne and you have to grab them and bring them to your dungeon to score a point.

Also there's a team deathmatch mode, so I don't think there's any princesses involved in that either.

Last night i was chucked into a soccer type game.... Except it was more like football you used to play at national school where you beat the **** out of each other for the ball :P

With the system Sony use there is a trophy quota though. Which means if they have gold/silver/bronze. It still equates to the same amount of trophy points.

Being all bronze it allowed them to add loads of trophies worth less, more goals, more challenge. If it was silver and bronze there would probably be almost half.

Anyway fact remains there are equal trophy points to be had. :) So its all good. :D

I was reading about that on the Fat Princess board on the US playstation forums. There was a few threads about FP soccer but nobody explained what it is? They seemed to love it anyway.

Is it a game mode im missing or what?

I don't think it's a game mode you can search for, i think your just randomly put into it when you use "Quick Find".

Theres 21 trophies in Fat Princess. As a comparison Bf '43 has only 12 trophies. And also strangely easy. The Fat Princess ones, are rather tough. Kill 88 enemies online (a streak )?

I actually just found this on the Fat Princess forum:

When you create/find a game and you have the option to select your map, Soccer is the last map amongst your selection choices. The map automatically sets the only mode of play as well.

Will have to give this a try. Seems strange they kind of hid it away and didnt talk about it in interviews.

I just posted a quick review up now for anyone wondering. There's a nice embedded gameplay vid (from someone else) and some pics.

Having a blast with this game. Already gotten one or two trohpies out of it. Haven't had the chance to play soccer though, but the princess game is just so much fun!

Ye it helps me but a bit late now :P I went and played story and figured out why there was no princess. And there was me running away from everyone looking for a princess .

I've had the server not connect twice. That's all. And both were today. No other issues at all, and I've been playing at peak times too. The issue, as far as I can see, lies in the fact that there's no "servers" per se. Moreso it uses the user connections as servers, so with volume you get people logging on/off all the time, internet connections failing, etc.

Mid-game is fine because the game actually switches to another person (it tells you this) but when trying to establish a connection to someone who's just left the game entirely the game fails.

Oh no, I'd be getting it for the online, only my connection is pretty bad sometime ( peak times) so was wondering how it was.

    Thanks though.

Oops, I meant to post this here earlier, Titan are working on a patch to do with connection issues and lag. Hopefully that will sort out your issues. They're aiming to release asap apparently.

Eurogamer always seem to give PS3 exclusives bad reviews, so I'm not surprised they're slating Fat Princess.

the thing is that the game was flawless up to the bloody public release

    thats very annoying

Well I can sympathise with them about the Capture the Princess taking forever, was in 2 excrutiatly long games yesterday, but it could be solved with a timer of those types of games, 30 minutes would be more than enough for team with half a brain.

But 6/10 because they got bored......nah, graphics are cutesy but vicious, voices for the princesses going "Cakey please" always crack me up, plenty of scope for tactics (dropping 3 bombs into a catapult, charging it for full power, dropping a live one in and letting them fly into the enemy castle is fun), lots of variety and hidden routes in each level, the soccer mode is NUTS.

That is true all right. I consider Eurogamer a farce really. I used to like them years ago, but then i wouldnt take any one online review to heart on its own.

The US Playstation forums have a Fat Princess board that seems to have become the official forum for the game. The devs are interacting a lot with the community and are very transparent with issues and their plans. So worth a look if your having issues and they are taking on suggestions too.

Apparently the problems connecting are partly due to the logic the game is using to find suitable games to connect to as well as the game being hammered.

Anyway that forum is well worth a look.

Whilst I somewhat agree with this, the guy who reviewed this game gave Killzone 2 9/10 and gave other PS3 exclusives he reviewed, like WipeOut HD, good reviews as well. I've stopped reading Eurogamer anyway due to that MMO review scandal, but I certainly don't miss the slight bias against Sony in both their PS3 and PSP reviews.

As it's mainly an online game I would imagine some updates to add/refine features will be coming.

host your own games and youll be fine for anyone with connection issues

just played 5 on the bounce with me hosting there

games werent full, about 6 per team in rescue the princess and it worked a charm. small teams seem to work better

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 584 ✭✭✭BeansBeans

IGN review is up. Unlike the Eurogamer review the guy seemed to have actually played the game for more than two hours and witnessed some you know, that mysterious thing..... oh teamwork.

    IGN review

Although like Eurogamer, IGN are incorrect about the timer. Its too long but there is a timer. Have witnessed it a few times. Not sure how it decides the winner when it runs out though.

    An it's patched!

    http://ie.ps3.ign.com/articles/101/1012320p1.html

Don't like the fact that the dark priest area attack only get's you 2xp per hit now though :/

Edit: Actually we don't get it til next week, which is good imo seeing as i can rack up some serious xp this weekend with dark priest :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,475 ✭✭✭corblimey

Another game I was looking forward to, that I won't be getting because the single player is rubbish. Is it my imagination or are far too many games these days all about the multi player? I don't go online to play games (the last time I did that was in the days of AoE) and much prefer to sit at home playing with myself ;)

I can understand a MP option but not at the expense of the SP experience, but I've heard nothing good about the bots in this one, so I'll pass.
