Anyone ever tear their stomach muscle?

I am posting this about my husband who tore his stomach muscle a couple of weeks ago (it's as a result of the stomach muscles being weak after surgery rather than excessive exercise, but I figured this was the best forum for it). It's seems to be quite a severe tear, he has a slight protrusion from his stomach and it is incredibly painful. The only way he can get relief is by lying down and unfortunately he has to work, so that isn't an option.

He was with his surgeon last week for a post surgery check up and he gave him a belt (corset!) to wear. That does give him some relief, but to be honest he really isn't much better than he was last week. He is taking ibuprofen and using deep heat.

So I guess my (long winded) question is, has anyone here ever tore their stomach muscle? How long did it take to clear up and does anyone have any tips to get some pain relief? Thanks in advance.

Ouch, I did tear mine a long, long time ago and it still gives me trouble - mostly it cramps really easy and the pain is excruciating.

Although mine was the result of a motorbike crash and not surgery, sorry there really is no advice I can offer.

I honestly wish your hubby a speedy recovery because its been awfully sore and troublesome for me.

Thanks for the super speedy replies:D. Funny I figured it could be something that may always trouble him, but I hope not!

It might be worth his while taking L-Glutamine. I know its often given to patients recovering from surgery to help tissue repair, and more generally for muscle recovery.

The dosage is generally bewteen 5 and 20g per day. Even it is ineffective in this aspect, it has still has the benefit of promoting gut health.

    Seek medical advice.

Thanks Bossarky, yes, I'm really just looking for peoples experiences or maybe alternative therapy that they used rather than medical advice ;).
