I think its fair to say, after 5 years of torture from the american army looking for answers as to their guilt, that theres a good chance their innocent.

This is just what the country needs, some real insurgents...and just in time for the overthrow of the FF government.

    do they eat swans?

Plov is the Uzbek national dish, made with mutton and rice and flavored with onion and spices (particularly cumin).
Plov varies by region and is also found in other central Asian countries. The most popular versions, aside from that made with mutton or lamb, are those made with chicken and dried fruit, shuyud plov (dill), kishmish plov (grapes), sudlu ash (milk), giyma plov (finely ground meat, potatoes and chick peas), sabzi plov (green vegetables) and fisinjan (grenadine, walnuts and chicken).

    http://www.theworldwidegourmet.com/recipes/plov-with-mutton-or-lamb/

They are also fond of the tae....no mention of swan or children, so they're one up on the christian brothers there at least.

If these people weren't inclined to terrorist acts before they were detained, they sure as hell are going to be afterwards.

I am willing to the bet that they are some people north of Bellmullet that would love to put them up for a while.

Your not the only one, but that's because people make a link between gitmo and slavering radical loons who'd kill us all if they had a chance.

Also, they're releasing these people because after 5 or so years of holding them, they've finally copped that they don't know shit and have done nothing. it's not like they're just letting everyone out or anything like that.

I'm sure there was a thread on this six or so months back, i imagine this one will head down the same road of moral outrage and indignation based on nothing at all.

Seeing as nobodies bothered lynching any Christian Brothers, Rosminians etc, I doubt they're going to be arsed with these two.

    Political capital?
    Goodwill?

I doubt we'd get anything tangible, if that's what you're wondering.

    Mine, it would seem.

And i'm not seeing the insanity in it, unless of course you're worried that group of poor bastards who've spent the last ages in gitmo will come over here and overthrow the government, thus putting keyboard warriors all over AH to shame.

Probably zip because the Irish government has no backbone as we all know would gladly bend over for Obama and company, no questions asked. We'll foot the bill, keep the money in your pocket, Obama. :)

This is ridiculous, the gov't can barely accommodate it's own prisoners at present, how are they going to cope with these lads? All I can say is, I can't wait to see the welcome sign into Portlaoise: "Failte go Portlaoise! Twinned with Guantanamo Bay"

That's quite a lot. Surely the Americans could have "arranged" for these people to mysteriously disappear for a lot less.

    Except they aren't terrorists.
    Firstly, from the US themselves
1.Fifty-five percent (55%) of the detainees are not determined to have committed any
hostile acts against the United States or its coalition allies.
    2. Only 8% of the detainees were characterized as al Qaeda fighters. Of the remaining
detainees, 40% have no definitive connection with al Qaeda at all and 18% are have no definitive affiliation with either al Qaeda or the Taliban.
    Linkey

So out of everyone in there we have 8% of actual al Qaeda members.

right, but 8% is still alot cheese, you left-liberal loon, AND YOU SAID THEY WEREN'T TERRORISTS! i hear you say.

Yes, and now we do some simple math.

Of the remaining 240 at Guantanamo, 100 are considered too dangerous to be released from custody; 80 could face criminal charges in US courts but could be freed if acquitted; and 60 have been cleared for release (and it's as low as 30 in some reports), but cannot be sent home because their own countries would likely harm them. URL="http://www.theherald.co.uk/news/foreign/display.var.2484800.0.EU_leaders_are_willing_to_take_Guantanamo_Bay_prisoners.php"]Link[/URL (including some 17 chinese muslims who will most likely be relocated to the US)

So, we're talking about 60(max) to 13(min) people spread amongst a good chunk of the EU (because several EU countries have also made noises about accepting Guantanamo detainees, and it's up the the people themselves to decide where to go)

ok, so, is that all cleared up? Can we stop acting like hysterical children now?

...and if they haven't, a couple of years dealing with living on another prison island, only one with a much sh*ttier climate, should be enough to push them over the edge.

In all fairness though, the Irish and UK governements saw fit to releasing people convicted of an equal or greater level of terrorism and violence on to the streets back in 2000...400+ of them. I can't see another two causing that much trouble, unless they finally get around to building that nuke they've beeen ahnkering after...

Ah sure we'll soon begora that out of them. They'll think we're the nicest people in the world after coming from Gitmo. Cups of tea, TV, full Irish breakfast the morning after a few scoops.

When they do escape they'll leave Ireland with found memories and photos that they can actually show the relatives.

I assume the US will be covering the cost of these prisoners?

What we're getting is membership of the international community you Dolt! Thats how the world works, when it works: We all chip in and sort out little problems like what to do with INNOCENT (ie; no evidence, no charges) victims of illegal detention and torture, who cant be sent home because their own governments are NOT part of the happy family of nations.

I think the americans have some nerve to create this issue then expect lapdog governments around the world to pick up the pieces.

Who the **** to amnesty int think they are lecturing us anyway ?

As for the media reports, on one side a) the govt (patting themselves on the back for such a great idea this is), on the other b) amnesty international (patting the govt on the back for such a great idea this is), what about c) representing the people who are NOT overly fond of taking in and paying for international jihadist suspects & their families ?

They lecture everybody. Thats what they do.

What the Americans did was ask Governments who'd criticised Guantananamo to take prisoners in. We did, so we are, which is more than can be said of others. Its the right thing to do.

    Are they "international jihadist suspects"?

Where did "families" come from? Nobodies mentioned it, as far as I can see.

Amnesty International said that Mr Jabbarov's wife and child were in a refugee camp in Pakistan and that he would be able to apply for them to join him.

Of course anything other than family re-unification & state assistance would be against these people's civil rights.

Hang on a tic, help is on the way

His lawyer, Michael Mone, told a US congressional committee hearing last year that Mr Jabbarov was living with his elderly mother and pregnant wife as refugees in northern Afghanistan when he was captured in 2001 and later transferred to the detention centre on Cuba.
The Uzbek had not been involved in fighting between the Taliban and the Northern Alliance and was most likely handed over for a bounty, he said.

No, they are former jihadi suspects who have not been charged or accused of anything and are being released as a result of this.
