Is it wise posting usernames Religeous orientation on a public website? I would have thought you would be more security aware in the PSNI. You don't know who is monitoring posts on this website. Just an opinion

I am satisfied there is no risk involved. These are just usernames. It's not like they are giving out their real names or addresses.

To prove the point - Can you identify anyone here from just their boards.ie username and community background?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,006 ✭✭✭PapaYankeeGirl

I should add that any of the named people are free to remove their name or any other detail at anytime. Most people added their own name to the list, so if they are happy then thats ok. Those who didnt want their name on the list obviously have not added theirs to the list.

the only way its possible is if you post what shop you work in and what area of town. even as a joke. i remember it happened here a while back.

Sorry if I am offending anyone up north. I have never lived in the north of ireland and would not be able to identify posters due to lack of local knowledge.

I just find it strange that in a society that has been divided so long by religion that prospective members of the PSNI have to wait until quotas from one religion has to be filled before they get the opportunity to join. Thats the system. I'm a believer that ability not religious beliefs makes a good police officer.
At a guess I'd say pappayankeegirl is a non r/c, only child from a farming background living near Portstewart but I could be wrong. (information from a 5 minute trawl of posts)

    Your not offending anyone.

What are you trying to demonstrate by relaying information that has been posted on this forum?

If you're trying to illustrate that someone could potentially single out & track individuals down because they are applying to the PSNI then i don't think you're doing a very good job.

TBH,you have demonstrated how vague the information on this forum is, are you trying to say that the info, for eg, re PYG could be used to findout who she really is?? I don't think so.

NearPortstewart? That's really narrowed it down. Non/rc? What does that mean? Well she could be chinese or from anor ethnic minority, it doesn't necessarily mean she's a white protestant if that's what you're assuming.

So maybe after several people have now addressed this issue you might consider either saying exactly what you're trying to say or refrain from posting such ill-thought out statements.

Don't worry you're not offending anyone, this is a forum for discussion after all & we understand, even by your own admission, that you can't grasp this recruitment process nor the societal issues of this country. Therefore, when you think about it you aren't really in a very strong position to make comments as you have.
Although as i said it is a forum for discussion, however, you did make a similar post earlier & it was addressed,by themoderator of this forum, obviously that wasn't enough to,satisfy your curiosity. Might be best not to single people out anymore either as you did with PYG.

    I hope this helps.

You're really demonstrating how little you know in this post.

Prospective members don't have to "wait" for quotas from one religion to be filled. RC and non-RC candidates are taken in at the same time.

If you believe in ability, I will assume that you also believe in equality. The RUC had a hugely disproportionate amount of non-RC Constables in proportion to the amount of Catholics that live in Northern Ireland. The PSNI seeks to address that imbalance by ensuring the number of Catholic officers recruited is proportionate to the size of the Catholic community in Northern Ireland.

Regarding Papayankeegirl: The vague information you have provided really shows how difficult it is to get any solid information on her from her posts. "From a farming background"? Who isn't from a farming background up here? "Living near Portstewart"? How near? 1 mile? 10 miles?

If you have something to say then just say it, but I'd rather not see any more posts that amount to nothing more than finger-wagging.

Can anyone tell me why Im from near Portstewart? If i am its the first I know about it! Im not even from the same County!!! Nor am I a famer nor my parents! Im not the only non-rc in Northern Ireland nor the only female wishing to be a police officer!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,696 ✭✭✭trad

Thank you for all your comments. I'll give a quick background to my self. I'm from a rough and tumble part of Dublin. I joined AGS in 1978 and I never discussed with anyone my thought or desires to join the force. Different security situation to the one you face in the PSNI and prior to that the RUC. I did a stint on the Border in 1979, my first weekend, two RUC men died in an explosion we were near enough to hear, then there was Mountbatton, Narrowwater and various other acts of terrorism. I was always careful about telling anyone that I was in an AGS.

The reason for my posting is that I find it strange that prospective and active members of the PSNI are posting in an open forum. Every time you post you give away a tiny bit of information about yourself, and while I proved I'm no good as a profiler there are those to whom the smallest snippet of information can put together a jigsaw and point a finger. My concerns are for the safety of your colleagues, not to upset them.

Didn't mean to pick on papayankeegirl but I was invited to take a stab at identifying someone so apologies pyg.

you can't be serious? i wouldnt want to scud myself. your a cert to get in but even still, sod's law and all that

also i couldnt afford to shop at the minute due to the fact that the lovely kids around here thought it would be great to use my car as an etch-a-sketch and do some lovely and very artistic scribbles on my rear passenger door. they also have written a very heart warming '**** off' on the back panel.

    very stylish.

just stuck some t-cut on it and it made absolutely no difference. think im looking at probably 500quids worth of damage. i know it was one of the kids but cant prove it. its enraging me beyond belief. typical of the scum they were spawned from, benefit leeching scumbags who live off other peoples money.

Oh I've been keeping an eye on the October thread - can't wait to find out who my squad mates are going to be :)

Where has everyone gone? I feel I have missed something? That's what happens when you go away for a week with no internet access.

I thought there would have been a flurry of excitement waiting on the calls this week. Can someone enlighten me as to whether there has been a mass exodus from the boards for some reason....

Anyway....i would have thought calls would have started already this week. I think I got my call on a Wednesday.

Good luck bc84 and everyone else, where-ever you may all be :(
