Problem with alarm and infa red detector

    Hi folks,

Have an aritech alarm here in the house but it was fitted by the previous owner. We were getting the doors replaced around the house down stairs and the infa red sensor needed moving aswell as the panic alarm. I moved them both and had to rewire them as the chippie had accidently cut the cable. So i opened the casing and ran some new wire from it out to the panic button and then on to the infa red sensor making sure to follow the previous wiring.

The panic button is working fine but now the infa red light just remains on all the time. Also the internal siren is fed off the infa reds positive and negative and doesnt ring when the alarm goes off outside. Its like the infa red is getting an error and power for some reason isnt continuing on to the internal siren.

When i try and arm the alarm it says the system is ok and comes up saying leave now but it just stays on that and never properly arms.

Any suggestions on why the IR stays on?

Only thing i can tell you is your going to have to get someone to have look at it. The internal bell should be powered off its own point on the panel, maybe you mixed them up with the 12v for the pir by mistake ?

I didnt change any of that, the wiring from the pir to the internal bell is as it always was, i only put a new wire in from the panel running to the pir and that was only a matter of replacing what was there. Ive done electronics in college so its not like its completely alient to me. Since ive connected it theres something wrong with the pir whic is leaving it permanently on and the internal ringer isnt operating if i set the alarm off. Whatever it is is also stopping the alarm from properly arming though. Initially there was a fault on the display saying fuse and 230v as i had turned off the power and removed the fuse but when i go to arm the alarm and it goes through the system check those vanish and it says system ok.

I am not doubting your ability to change the cable. the internal sounder needs to be on the internal sounder point on the panel, not the 12v as sounds like the case here. You could try connecting them independently to the panel on a short peice of cable and see if they work..

This isnt a new setup though, this was the way it was previously wired and was working that way i.e the pir feeding the internal ringer. I havent even changed that wire, ive changed the one going from the main panel to the pir so nothing has changed with the internal ringer.

They are not working so something has changed.. Maybe the pir is working off the internal siren feed.. dont know unless i can have a look at it to be honest..

The 6 cores come from the panel up to the PIR and then from the PIR there is a positive and negavtive running to the internal ringer. The internal ringer hasnt been changed in any way, the only wiring change was the panel to the PIR but the PIR led remains on at all times. Forgetting about the internal ringer compltely any ideas why the PIR led is staying on constantly?

What type of system have you ? The led should only come on when you walk in front of it..
