Do crazy thoughts ever rush through your mind?

Like when you are walking down a road with traffic rushing by, do you ever think about just diving out in front of it?

Or when you are using some fancy expensive piece of technology, do you ever want to smash it to pieces or chuck it out a window?

Or when you are standing behind somebody, do you ever think about smashing their head in with the blunt object which happens to be closest to hand?

So you never ever ever have crazy thoughts like this? I find that hard to believe to be honest.

Don't mind them OP. I sometimes get the aforementioned urges you speak of (except the one about random murder , you'd have to at least be making some sort of public spectacle of yourself before I'd baseball bat your brains all over my face).

I often thought about punching a scumbag just for the hell of it.

    traffic - no

equipment - yes. today, in fact. because my boss is a cnut, and i wanted to show him that his fancy cell counting machines are in fact shite.

    blunt instrument - see above.

Everyone has these thoughts, but few people deign to acknowledge them, pretending to themselves that the darker parts of the human psyche do not exist within themselves.

They lie to themselves, refusing to acknowledge that which is a basic part of the human soul. I have evil thoughts, I acknowledge them, I am aware of them, but I do not act upon them. I know they are there, and I vent them in a controlled manner, on things I can afford to loose.

Being aware of the evil within allows me to control it, rather than merely ignoring it and letting it fester through my being to the point where it can overwhelm me when I loose control.

But we are all Ted-Bundy's, we're all Commandants of Auschwitz, once you get right deep down, into the core of a persons being, we're all evil, malignant ****s who deserve to die.

Just how else could humanity come to sit at the top of the global food chain but by being the smartest, baddest, most bloodthirsty mother****ers on this rock.

This is a form of OCD.

Whenever I watch Diehard, I get an overwheming urge to start a shootout with German terrorists, complete with wisecracks and witty puns.

    Is that what you mean?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 132 ✭✭KieranKennedy

This is gas, I genuinely though that everyone had these crazy thoughts from time to time. Perhaps I am not being 100% clear. Another example would be when you are at a function or meeting of some sort and there is a speaker delivering a speech in front of the whole crowd, I always get some sort of crazy urge, like throwing my laptop at him or firing my pen at his head while he speaks, or even just running up on stage and roaring at him.

Or when I am doing an exam, I feel like just flipping out and doing something nuts like throwing my chair up in the air. Obviously I never actually do any of these things, but I without doubt get these urges, and I thought that everybody, to a greater or lesser extent, did too.

On a serious note tho OP:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purely_Obsessional_OCD

I have a fear of exposed heights which includes the irrational (duh) urge to jump from the said height.

I get those thoughts exactly as you describe OP. I figured everyone did!

I put it down to a slight fear of not being in control of your actions.

Next time carry out one of these urges, and afterwards you may find yourself levitating with extreme mood lift and accompanying euphoria......

If I'm standing near a track when a train is coming, I often think about trying to get across the track at the last minute.

I often think of hitting random stranger when they are least expecting it. Like when they are walking towards me on a street just minding there own business I just think of meeting them square in the face with a box.

If I'm standing on the side of a busy road, I often think of just pushing one of the other people out in front of an oncoming car.

I get the same thoughts OP, I wouldn't act on them, mostly, but I do have them.

Then again, there is a bit of a mental streak in my family.

Yes. I think these urges are normal, but it's acting on them that makes you a sociopath/loon

I imagine its a side effectof having our large frontal lobes..... .....I also think such thoughts.....imagine how scary to not be in control of them....id say our brains still have a lot of evolving to do.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 116 ✭✭Dr_H_Lecter

I have them (or had them), not ashamed to say it either, used to be truely freaked out by myself, was'nt funny at the time.
some say its anxiety and fear of consequences of your actions. loss of control as someone mentioned. some of these things are impossible NOT to think, some tw-t standing on the very edge of a train track/cliff.....anyone with an active imagination is going to think the obvious.
everyone thinks such things occasionally, just not everyone worries about it and so grows the thoughts through focusing on them.
accept them, relax. laugh at the whole thing.

yup... been there, with most of these.

Sometimes , it is just a case of thinking , what is the most completely "wrong" thing, I could do in this situation.

e.g. driving down a road with and artic coming at me the other way, and thinking, "I wonder what it would be like to drive straight into it... I'll just try it this one time ...."

"mincemeat" is usually the image, that springs to mind, with a lingering feeling, that "I really wish that did not cross my mind"

I get this aswell. I also couldn't ride my bike on the side of a mountain on a school trip because I kept thinking that my mind would suddenly swerve off the side... same with the edge of a cliff/tall building - I'm not suicidal or anything at all; but I feel like I can't trust my own mind not to do something stupid.

I imagine to people who've never had thoughts like that it's completely mental, but I dunno... it can freak me out tbh.

did you never think of someone inappropriate at a very inappropriate time confab.

does that ring any bells. :D

I was just kidding 'cause this is AH :)

Course I have crazy thoughts. Sometimes I think I should just smash my car into a tree or something so I don't have to bother driving the rest of the way home! Jesus, this thread is a bit worrying.:(

I always think things like ''Imagine if I went up an smashed his face into the table'' and think about what would happen in the aftermath of that.

I get them all the time.

Driving into work, i think about flipping the car.

I think about taking a **** load of coke or something, just to see what the crack would be.

I think about just running up to a guest in the hotel, and kicking them square in the nuts.

    Man i'd love to.

Yep sure do. All the time. :D

Going to uni this year in the morning I always walked past a bridge, and for some always get this urge to throw my bag into the river. :D Haven't done it yet.

When playing pitch and putt I always try to hit chip shots towards other people in front of me just to move them along. They are quite slow and I'm even slower.

While shopping in Lidl with a trolley I always get the urge to release the trolley at a super speed into the soda/pop cans. That would be a lot of fun. :D
