The draw between Roscommon and Wexford has thrown things a little off schedule a bit, so one quarter final could still be out of sync. The others are on the Bank Holiday weekend. We should have the details next week, but it won't be out as early as 1pm, given recent form.

Was thinking the quarters were on Bank Holiday weekend alright. Thankfully wont be working that weekend, but if Wicklow get through, they better not be playing the Saturday, otherwise its Croker then Metallica for me.

Just to add to this. Is it an open draw in QF? ie 4 provincial champions against any of the 4 qualifiers or is it that you can't play a team you've already played or what?

No, a Provincial winner can't play the provincial loser they were playing against i.e. Mayo V Galway(provided Galway beat Donegal)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

Each provincial winner must play a qualifier, but can't play the team they beat in their provincial final.

Too early to say but they are well evenly matched teams.I watched Dublin and Mayo in a challenge match in May in Naomh Mearnóg and Dublin won 0-15 to 0-12.Dublin were trailing by a point all the way through the game until the last 10 minutes and then they turned up the heat to finish the game off get a good win.Dublin also drew with Mayo in Ballina and should have beat them well in the league.

The seriousness of league and challenge matches aside, things are very different for Mayo and Dublin under O Mahoney and Gilroy.I think Dublin would avenge that defeat if they were to meet again. If Mayo were to go to the Hill and warm up,I'd be confident that Gilroy would instruct the players to warmup in front of the Davin.

With Whelan being used as an impact sub and Ger Brennan's antics coming very early,I'd be confident that McGarrity would come out unscathed apart from a demoralising defeat to the Dubs.:D:D

Speaking of jaws,Mark Vaughan better stay out of Coppers with those Mayo lads about.;)

I heard that, whoever Dublin get, it is going to be a standalone fixture so it will be on the Saturday or Monday? I would give anything for it to be on the Sunday though! When will it be announced? After the draw next Monday more than likely?

This just pretty much sums up everything above.
GAA Football All Ireland Senior Championship Quarter Finals

The Draw for the Quarter Final of the All-Ireland Football Championship takes place on Sunday evening next (Live on RTÉ 2 following the All-Ireland Hurling quarter finals in Thurles - 6.15 approx).

The format for the draw is that each of the Provincial champions shall play one of the four winners from Round 4 of the Qualifier, subject to the respective Provincial Champions not meeting the defeated finalist from their own Province.

The quarter finals are scheduled for the weekend of 1/2/3 August with the fourth quarter final delayed by one week to 8/9 August (Due to the knock-on effect of the draw in an earlier round of the qualifier between Roscommon and Wexford).

Dates, times and venues will be finalised by CCCC on Monday next, 27 July.

Ye see the thing is the culchie of mayo love nothing more than wiping the floor with the dubs in there own house. It the only team that mayo fans and players really enjoy playin and beating. I think that on Sun the 30th Aug at around 6.00pm the dubs will be lickin there wounds again, debating the non appearance of there big stars on the big day;) That is assuming they can get over the quarters:confused:

No, if Kerry win they can play any of the provisional winners i.e. Mayo/Dublin/Tyrone/Cork.

Yes too true, too true. Mayo have a habbit of goin missing on final day:rolleyes: Better if the dubs get there so? Dont get me wrong, i do hope the dubs go on to win sam if mayo are out. You guys would deserve it after all the money your fellow county men and yourself have pumped in to the GAA coffers over the last number of years has been alot.

They're showing the hurling quarter finals on Sunday so I'd doubt they're showing the Kerry match???

PP have it wrong as the Dublin v Limerick match is on RTE2 at 2pm.

One small problem with the draw going ahead this Sunday. At that stage, we will know if Meath or Roscommon are through to the 4th round, but we won't know if they have beaten Limerick or not.

So therefore, while Cork are eligible to play Meath/Roscommon, Cork are not able to play Limerick in the quarter final.

So I'm guessing they will probably go ahead with the draw and put Meath/Roscommon/Limerick back in the pot if they are drawn against Cork.

Effectively then, the quarter final draw could be very predictable if Limerick,Antrim,Kildare and Galway get through but from the favourites tag Kildare and Galway would go through at least while Kerry should progress and Roscommon/Meath/Limerick could be either although I'd fancy Limerick.

Should Galway,Kildare and Limerick get through,Mayo,Dublin and Cork can't play them respectively.

So in the drums it could be

    Provincial Winners

    Dublin
    Cork
    Mayo
    Tyrone

    Qualifier drum

    Kildare
    Limerick
    Kerry
    Galway

If such a situation occurs, each team can only play 3 of the 4 in the other drum except for Tyrone who could draw any of the 4 as they wouldn't have played against any of them.

As far as the draw will be concerned on Sunday night Limerick will be through - so that part of it is settled already.

Why will Dublin end up with Kerry and Kildare with Mayo or Cork ? I mean the boys in Blue won Leinster, yet THEY are guarantted the CRAP draw. I suppose its better to try and get them early :(

They could get Kerry alright but then again they could get Donegal,Galway,Limerick,Meath,Roscommon or Wicklow. It all depends on who comes out of the last round.

Dublin can't get Kildare again and Mayo can't get Galway. Also Cork can't get Limerick and Tyrone can't get Antrim. From looking at the last qualifiers, you'd have to pick the favourites and come up with a picture of the last 8.

    Wicklow v Kildare
    Kerry v Antrim
    Donegal v Galway
    Meath v Roscommon/v Limerick

So out of what look to be the favourites this weekend, the following scenarios can occur

    Kildare v Tyrone/Mayo/Cork
    Kerry v Dublin/Mayo/Tyrone/Cork
    Galway v Dublin/Tyrone/Cork
    Limerick v Dublin/Mayo/Tyrone

Tyrone can face any of the qualifiers and Kerry could face any of the provincial champions, even Cork who beat them in a Munster Semi-Final.

So its a 1 in 3 chance of Cork drawing Kerry (assuming Kerry bt Antrim). I really hope that doesn't happen again.....been far too many meetings between these 2 in this decade.
