"After a five-week process that saw hundreds of votes cast weekly on WSOP.com, the public has made clear who they think should be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame. It will now be up to the current Hall of Famers and a panel of media members to determine who actually does join this exclusive club.
The following represents the Top 10 nominated individuals at WSOP.com from May 26-July 2."

Now it is up to the hall of fame members to decide on who they will bring in to their fold.

If you were in the WSOP hall of fame, who would pick?

The criteria they will consider in their vote are as follows:

    * A player must have played poker against acknowledged top competition
    * Played for high stakes
    * Played consistently well, gaining the respect of peers
    * Stood the test of time
    * Or, for non-players, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results.

Who would you bring into the hall of fame with you? You can have multiple options 192 votes

    TOM 'Durr' DWAN
    0% 0 votes
    BARRY 'Bear' GREENSTEIN
    5% 11 votes

Good to see auld Roger Moore made it in 1997.

Of course, poker isn't his best game, more of a '21' fella.

What's the story with the Atari Jaguar option?
I've seen that in a few differnet polls now.

Yes, I have no excuse for luckbox Ivey but tom Dwan is Durr, Barry Greenstein is 'Bear', and DANIEL 'I've just got my green card' NEGREANU relates to the fact that a few days ago being Canadian and working and playing in the USA for so long earning Millions of Dollars actually got a green card from the US government. Keep up with it.

True enough. As in OP. Players went to the WSOP website and over the course of the WSOP have been voting for who they would like to make the shortlist. The names are in the poll.

I would not have put Tom Dwan in. I personally don't think he is a good advertisement for the game of poker.

Atari Jaguar = 'Mods' bit of fun.

I like the Atari Jaguar option. It's like the CowboyNeal option on Slashdot polls. The vote is a spoiled or null vote, as in a vote for "I don't give a crap" or "None of your poll options fit me". Because people have to vote in some way, obviously.

its Barry Greenstein for me, mainly for giving his tournament winnings to charity followed closely by Dan Harrington

I stuck in 3 names, Erik Siedel, Mike Sexton and Scotty Nguyen

who are the 6 people that voted for durrrr

essplain how he deserves to be in the hall of fame over dan harrington

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,894 ✭✭✭✭phantom_lord

cause he's awesome and is the bestest at the pokers, while dan is just some old nit that luckboxed a donkament or two.

I voted for Durr, tbh, by the criteria he shouldn't be in, he hasn't been around long enough yet.
I also voted for Harrington though, it was multiple choice.

I'd imagine many of the people who gave Durr a nod also gave Harrington a vote.

Anyhow, the list of Hall of Famers (not farmers) could and should be a much tighter, more exclusive list.

A random selection to pick on: Fred Ferris: Inducted 1989, now admittedly I know nothing about this guy, perhaps he deserves
to be in the hall of fame more than anyone but his bio isn't the most convincing.

Won a bracelet in 1980 for the $10k Deuce to Seven Draw, there were 3 prizes, so how many entrants can there have been? The main event that year had 73 entrants.
He died in March of 1989 and was inducted into the hall of fame in December of that year.

I wouldn't like to see any scumbags inducted either, the Nguyen duo falling into that catagory.

idk, he has been beating high stakes for years, that's a much bigger test, and a solid sign of longevity imo.

how can u say that were durr has been playing 4 maybe 5 years against a player who has proven himself over 20 odd years or more and still able to play with the best of them . when durr been around as long as dan and not broke then u can compare them better :rolleyes:

uh, he's been playing nosebleeds all those years, while iirc dan has played mostly low stakes live games and tournaments. durrrr has made many times over what dan has, playing in the toughest games around, he's proved himself alot more in those 4/5 years than dan has in his 20.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,243 ✭✭✭✭Jesus Wept

Harrington has probably made a few pounds from the books, Durr should write a book.

Has this actually anything to do with the WSOP?

Durr is an amazing cash player but hasn't done much in the WSOP (yet)

haha what a joke hes been very lucky with his nose bleeds .look in 10years time if durrrrrr still around and still not broke i might agree with u . we had players like durrrrrr for a few years who are done and dusted now . some like johnny lodden are making a come back now with poker stars . only for stars he was ****ed .

so i cant see how just because he winning his nose bleeds now that it makes him a better player than dan . if he last 10 or more years then we decide :D

ps brian townends was the god few years ago what is he now ?

very lucky? over that time frame?

uh, it's pretty simple. if he beats the best in the world it's safe to assume that he's better at dan. what exactly has you so enchanted by dan anyway?
ps brian townends was the god few years ago what is he now ?

he's still doing v well. fwiw durrrr was around way before townsend was the sensation and is still top years after.

All those years. FFS he is a kid and 5 years is nothing.

When he is still a top player in 15 years time come back to me and I'll certainly agree.

Greenstein, Harrington, Seidel, Nguyen and Sexton are deserving at this stage imo.

5 years is a very long time at nosebleeds imo.

Getting into a hall of fame is about a lifetime of achievement. The amount of hands you have played or the fact that you played at incredibly high levels are not what gets you there. Why not have Gus Hansen in there? He has been around longer than Tom Dwan and has played nosebleed levels all through too.

Imo a hall of fame nomination is about recognition of what you have done over a long period of time, like 20+ years in poker at the very least.
