Ryusuke Taguchi, Prince Devitt's ex tag partner and someone who was probably going to beat Devitt in the final got hurt. So Taguchi is out so Taka is back in the tournament to replace him.

The semi finals are taking place as I type.

    Edit. So:
Shelly vs Devitt in the Finals. If Devitt wins he will move up to Heavyweight and challenge Tanahashi

Really enjoyed Kushida vs Kenny Omega from BOSJ http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x10naww_08-kushida-vs-kenny-omega-njpw-06-06-13_sport.

Devitt gave a press conference this morning ahead of the ippv on the 22nd of June very entertaining from him as usually.

And last but not least Nakamura
losing the title in Mexico just became available good match shame he lost it but hopefully it leads to him and Okada

Just seen that and came to complain about it :pac:

Nakamura's worst match in a while but I'm putting that down to La Sombra and CMLL. The ref in particular was awful. Looked like a randomer they picked out of the crowd before hand. He was nearly losing balance with every (incredibly slow) count he made. Would have been so much better in Japan for several reasons. A decent referee, a less annoying crowd, a good commentary team, Nakamura would have been babyface, unlikely to have been 2 out of 3 falls, etc.

Yeah it was alright i heard a good point that maybe
New Japan didn't want him to lose the title on Japanese soil before they put him up against Okada
    .

The Press Conference pretty much spelt out the plan but New Japan announced this. Both a hat tip and a time frame:
The 7/20 New Japan iPPV will be headlined by the 6/22 Kazuchika Okada vs. Togi Makabe winner against the Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Prince Devitt winner for the IWGP heavyweight title.

Prince Devitt vs Kazuchika Okada for the belt on PPV live.

    I could cry.

Even by his standards this is very cold:

    9k16wi.png

    This just got uploaded:

i watched a live interview with him live on nicopro after the BOSJ final and he said since he cleared out everyone in the jr. division he wants to compete with the heavyweights to prove he is the best wrestler in every division, and feels discriminated against by the japanese media & fans for being not just a jr. wrestler but a gaijin jr. but he will defend the jr. title if a worthy challenger presents themselves.

it was a fun interview where he mostly ran down the njpw roster for an hour and said he wants to recruit steve austin & ric flair to the bullet club,

    I am obsessed I know.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,089 ✭✭✭✭rovert

Anyone watch the Nicopro Devitt interview?

It is very stop start due to questions and answers being translated. There's almost too much to mention in terms of highlights in the second video which Alan posted. From not rating Nakamura and Suzuki (two the most dangerous people in Wrestling) as shooters while having this amazing look on his face to "shooting" on Japanese press coverage of gaijins (foreigners) to him suggesting new members of The Bullet Club and how he would rank them in the group. As well as tiny things like playing off his real life failure in attempting to learn Japanese as well as his diet.

The most universal clip I can point to is the 32:45 mark on. When he gets asked about foreign Wrestlers joining the bullet club and then how he would line them up in the pecking order. Great bit of lunacy and childlike imagination:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=9AYn__iW0fk

    Love the
lazy generalisation Devitt's character makes about Tama Tonga being the Rock's friend just because they come from The Islands.

Just Finished Devitt vs Shelley what a great match the last 7 to 8 minutes were brilliant and the stuff before that with the bullet club and Tanahashi and co was very good as well, the heat in the buliding was unreal they really hate the bullet club.

Overall a very enjoyable card Taka/Shelley was a nice match as well Taka is still class nearly 40 and still pulling off the springboard plancha to the outside.

There's two I would suggest the king of pro wrestling show from last October a lot of people's ppv of last year

And the Tokyo dome show from this January two great shows.

Pretty much any of NJPW's big shows would qualify imo.

If you want actual matches, you cant go far wrong with Nakamura's IC title defences (only in NJPW, cant speak for many outside) or any of the Tanahashi vs Okada matches.

Sincerely hope EVERYONE watches it. In terms of match quality, card and stories it is up there with Money in the Bank 2011.

The video package before the Devitt match explaining his transformation is great. He starts off as a cherubic babyface and ends with him with a bloody faced heel.

Prince Devitt is wrestling Okada's manager Gedo in one last road block before wrestling Okada. Some people are deluding themselves into think Devitt will drop the Junior title to a semi retired wrestler.

There aren't a whole load of options for Devitt to drop it to. He's beaten virtually everyone.

They surely wouldn't have him lose to a junior hw thus close to a heavyweight title match. Unless he's gonna win the big one....

For those who don't know New Japan runs two similarly formatted singles tournaments annually.

One for the light heavyweights called The Best of Super Juniors - ran last month and won by Prince Devitt.

The second G1 Climax which is for Heavyweights. Given his move to Heavyweight Devitt has many first time matches in his first time competing in the competition. The Brackets:
Group A: Tanahashi, Makabe, Goto, Kojima, Okada, Ishii, Lance Archer, DB Smith Jr, Devitt, Shibata

Group B: Tenzan, Nagata, Naito, Nakamura, Yaro, Takahashi, Suzuki, Shelton Benjamin, Karl Andersen, Kota Ibushi

    Group A is stacked. :)

Surprising Devitt and Okada will occur twice in the same month. Surprising they are rematching their version of Austin vs Rock in Tanahashi and Okada again so soon.

I am more sure Devitt will beat Okada July 20th for the Heavyweight belt now.

Can see them going with a time limit draw or something for Okada/ Tanahashi.

Edit: You really think Fergal can do it? Be frickin incredible!

Seeds were planted last year when Ibushi said in an interview that it was his dream to compete in the G1. Since he came back from injury, he has toned down the high flying stuff a little bit and added some power to his wrestling style, which suggests to me that he was trying to adjust so he could wrestle heavyweights a little easier. Excited as heck to see how he does.

    Just projecting forward.

They are putting all this heat on Devitt. New Japan's version of Paul Heyman (work with me here) Gedo was cheered against him this morning.

Makes sense the biggest babyface beats the biggest heel on the biggest show of the year at the Toyko Dome.

Naito beating Devitt in the final of the G1 is my prediction. To setup a title match between them.

Just finished yesterday morning's show now busy all day the main event was great, the heat in the buliding was amazing Devitt and the bullet club are such good heels.

Block a of the G1 looks great can't wait for Ishii vs Shibata.
