We're all grown-ups here, so without this decending into a slagging match, and accepting that everyone's tastes are different - what mods make you cringe?

    I'll start:

    Lexus lights
Fake Shark-fin aerials (with a regular aerial there as well)
offset front number plates on normal cars (no huge intercooler to block)
offset rear number plates (complete with huge trailer style plate lighting)
    stickers
colour coded or silver wiper arms
    huge windscreen strips
    huge boxy bodykits

    car20ft.jpg

Oh and the stupid carbon fibre hoods

    civicw.jpg

How much weight do they think they'll lose off the car putting this thing on?

well i cant pick it out like that, i just dont like some packadges:

    1. Standart car+ HUGE rims(bold tyres ofc)+LOUDEST stereo you can get.

    2. Replica's. Why to make it look like something fast, if it cannot do a S*it!

I have seen yesterday toyota avensis(99) in cherry color with white sport alloys... I was like WTFUDGE?!

    -S4/RS4 badges on diesel Audis
    -M power badges on 318's
-M power badges on cars that aren't even BMW's
    -Huge sun visor strips
    -Drum brakes painted red.
-GT TDI badges just because VW stuck them on doesn't make it ok :D
-Those silly lists of stickers people put on the front wings of cars, esp when none of the brands listed are actually fitted to the car, like the fiesta i seen with BBS and HKS on the wing,it had wolf race wheel....
-People who put those stupidly big decals in the rear window with the car make on it,i know its a fooking Toyota,i don't need a 2ft x 3ft sticker to tell me.
-People who put carbon bonnets on cars with 200kg's of sh!t mods stuck else where on the car.
-Yellow rear number plates when the reg is Irish?
-Lexus lights - goes without saying.

Big generic Exhaust on a piece of crap that sound loud all the time, I had a Civic VTI with a Janspeed Stainless steel one and only at high revs did you hear any diffference, oh and fake Type R's too

Drift style spoilers on road going cars.
    Any sun visors at all
    Spinners
    LED Lights inside or out
    Tacky fog light set ups
Fake exhausts where clearly nothing is coming out of them
    Stickers
    Flip paint
Most Carbon bits (proper carbon actually does save a decent bit of weight but I think it usually looks crap)

A good Carbon Fibre bonnet will be less than half the weight of the standard bonnet, fair enough it's sprung weight but it will still make a difference.

A Carbon Fibre bonnet is also better at dissipating heat, good for keeping engine bay temperatures down.

Plus they look the business on the right colour car (white, yellow, lime green etc..)

In my experience most of them aren't carbon fibre at all. They're just painted black.
    2. Replica's. Why to make it look like something fast, if it cannot do a S*it!

Not a replica - a fake. I know a guy selling a 1.4 golf that has a gti body kit and alloys. It's not like a gti is fast anyway...

That really ****ing annoys me. Like we're going to mistake your rattling, smoke belching, tractor-like diesel for a proper car......

My biggest pet-hate is too-loud exhausts*. Usually a ****ing pint-sized engined car with a dust-bin for a back-pipe driven by some 17 year old who drives up and down the town all ****ing night.

*I'm a big hypocrite 'cos my exhaust is too loud atm. Bloody muffler pipe rattles like nobody's business. The old spec R exhaust isn't wasted on the car though....

spinner hib caps aggggggh you clowns
    16v stickers
    neon lights(retards)
    induction kits on 1 litres
roll cages on any boy racer car
m5 or m3 badges on a single exaughst car
    dukes of hazard horns

Crap bodykits that turn that car in to something from transformers.

And people who halfordise their cars

One from a few years ago that I thought I had seen the last of, fake disc brakes. You know the yokes, that fit over the drums at the back. Saw a set last week. Ditto on the painted drums. The latest one I've seen that seems to be a recent one is the fake Brembo shells that fit over standard brake calipers.

    Neon lights. Goes without saying.

    Huge spoilers on tiny cars.

Maybe it's just me, but I do think this stuff was worse a few years ago. I dont see as many shítboxes tarted up compared to say the late 90's anyway.

I'd agree with --Kaiser-- re the carbon bonnets. they can look good on some cars and some colours and they do make a diff weight wise. But only if you're trimming weight as part of a general exercise. Kinda pointless if you have a two tonne subwoofer in the boot. I know a guy who has one, but he painted it in the body colour so as not to draw attention. He reckons he notices a diff with the steering feel. The original bonnet was bloody heavy though.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

    forgot this one,

The new fashion of black alloys, the just look like pissy steel rims.

they only look good on some high performance white cars.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,237 ✭✭✭darragh o meara

Cant believe nobody mentioned these :)

    no%20fear%20logo%20.gif

    Other pet hates are:

Fake Porsche turbo badges on anything but a Porsche turbo.
GT TDI badges really piss me off, seems as though every TDI Golf in the country is not a GT TDI
Lexus lights ( they only look good on a lexus )
Fake dump valves ya know the ones that make you sound like you've sneezed a bit too hard out the window :) and especially on balls of scrap ie Puntos, micras, fiestas etc etc....

i can understand everything on your list except for the mtech badges. why do they annoy you so much when there standard on mtech cars?

fair enough if it was an M3 badge on a 318Ci.

Anybody know whats with removing one of the front indicators on older Civics/ Lancers/ Colts/ Mazda 323's etc.? where the headlamp and front indicator are a separate unit. At first when I saw one or 2 cars with it done I thought nothing of it...they happen to have broke an indicator or something, but after seen dozens I think there is something definately going on. It looks a bit silly and pointless if you ask me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,099 ✭✭✭johndaman66

    kceire wrote: »
nothing got to do with how it looks, usually you remove the light unit and put in some sort of flexi pipe work to provide the airbox with direct air. and because its comming directly from the front as your moving your force feeding the air box with lots of cold air which leads to a more explosive ignition and hence more power in theory. keeps the runnig temps low too.

when i got my evo mapped i then went a fitted a force fed filter set up with pipework from the front bumper and then i got my map tweeked and the mapper specifically mentioned that intake temps were greatly reduced and he could give the car more ignition.

OK I thought it may have being something to do with allowing more air in alright...was the only inkling I had in my head. I can see how it might be an advantage in a car such as yours or if you were taking part in a track day or something like. But on a road car with a relatively small naturally aspirated engine and under pretty much normal driving conditions is doing this not pretty much pointless and just an exercise to make a statement?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,099 ✭✭✭johndaman66

    kceire wrote: »
depends, every car out there would benefit from the cold air intake, on a 1.8vtec engine it could make the difference of 5bhp give or take.

Ok, fair enough I take your point but having said that many of the cars I seen it done on were basic bog standard 1.3 civics. Also there is the illegalities and safety implications of not having an indicator regardless of car/ engine.

aslong as your sure they were 1.3 civics. how do you know as i didnt think honda put the 1.3 badge on the older civics?

not sure on the legal end either tbh. you do need an indicator front and back dont you for NCT purposes?

guess its a stick them back in for the test kinda thing :D

    funny arent ya.

    im yet to see one........

anyway to keep the thread on the right tracks i hate 18'' alloys on cars like civics/old shape astras etc, their too big for the car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,594 ✭✭✭tossy

Yes i am quite funny actually thanks! :D

OPC astra has 18's as standard too big?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 90 ✭✭david....

I hate 1 litre corsa's or clio's that are modified.

what I also think is stupid is a bmw with a m3 body kit and alloys and then a stupid 320d badge on the back if your going to try and have a m3 replica go the whole way and get an m3 badge

front number plates in the wrong place is also fairly stupid

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 90 ✭✭david....

    ya i also hate audi rs4 replica's
the replica's are so different to the real 1's just take the exhast of the rplica's and the exhast on the real rs4's

and i also hate glanza replica's
and the typr r civic replica's are also so common:D

    Bit of a contradiction No?

I don't mind a guy replicating a car once he stops short of badging it as the car he is trying to replicate that is just so so sad!

19's on the Astra VXR, so I think they'd be the same on the OPC? and I think they suit the car!

Anyway, saw this on the M50, took a photo, pulled up beside beside the passengers window, made eye contact with the driver, looked the car up and down, shook my head and gave myself the ultimate facepalm! (he hated my banter as he shot me dirty looks for the next 20mins that we were stuck in traffic!)
