Football Qualifiers Round 4

so, last round of games next weekend, some good games in the qualifiers so far and some good games ahead. Tomorrow

does anybody know if these will be home and away games or neutral? they have been neutral most years and were played in croker last year, however, croker is unavailable next weekend cos of bleeding Bono.

    Pot 1 should be -

    Kerry
    Wicklow
    Meath/Roscommon
    Derry/Donegal

    Pot 2 should be -

    Limerick
    Kildare
    Galway/Mayo -fancy Mayo here
Tyrone/Antrim - fancy Tyrone here, but it will be as close as the other 2 finals were and they were supposed to be cakewalks.

    4 games, pot 1 V pot 2.

Best Draw would be the following and then toss for home advantage-

    Wicklow v Kildare.
    Kerry V Limerick.
    Meath/Ros V Galway/Mayo.
    Donegal/Derry V Antrim/Tyrone.

BUt to repeat, where will these games be played? i think they have to be neutral given the make up of the draw.

Would i be right in saying the teams put out of their respective provincial final will be hosting the "pot 1" teams?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 335 ✭✭petermijackson

Yeah that's right Pot1 v Pot2 and then in the 1/4 finals you will have the teams that come through the Qualifiers playing the Provincial winners.

All games to played in Neutral Venues (not Croke Park next week as Bono and co are playing there)

    Provincial Runners-Up
    Limerick
    Kildare
    Antrim
    Galway

    Qualifiers from Round 3
    Wicklow
    Kerry
    Donegal :D
    Meath/Roscommon

So will ties be played at a neutral venue or home/away? Presume there will be no double headers given that Croke Park is unavailable next weekend?

Would like if Donegal got another crack at Antrim. I guess they are also the weakest team on the other side of the draw.

Any reason why we have to wait for the Sunday Game for the draw-I wonder why couldn't they have it on TV3?

All setting up quite nicely !! When one includes the four provincial winners it is quite interesting !!

    My proposal of rankings

    1.Tyrone
    2.Kerry
    3.Dublin/Cork
    4.Dublin/Cork
    5.Mayo
    6.Kildare
    7.Galway
    8.Limerick
    9.Meath
    10.Donegal
    11.Wicklow
    12.Antrim
    13.Roscommon

As a Kildare supporter, I would love if we got Galway (pay back for 1998 All Ireland final). And my second choice would be Wicklow - for 2 reasons, Micko & Wicklow kicked us out last year in the first round. Although I would not like to have home advantage in Wicklow, as they have been playing well at home. My 3rd choice against Kildare would be Kerry, they have been lucky in the last 2 matches...hopefully Kildare could cash in on their weaknesses and beat them!

Def dont want Kildare in Newbridge, anytime I have been up there, we have always lost, a qualifier many years ago stands out, we were beating them well at half-time, ended up losing by a point:(

I always thought it was neutral ground from now on!

looks like we need a thread merge ;)

Hope limerick get kerry or meath/roscommon. Mainly because I think limerick could beat kerry. As for meath/roscommon , it gives our dual players a chance to rest between the hurling quarter final next week and then the qualifier the week after. And hopefully reproduce the performance against meath last year :D

Is it first drawn, home advantage?

as a galway suporter i would love it if we got kildare as they still have no forwards and galway would win again no doubt Mcgeany has made ye strong and tough but he cant make ye footballers but as far as i know we cant play ye yet as we are both beaten prov finalists so we play one of the four teams that have come through the qualifiers

How much will the GAA make for the U2 concert?

Here's hoping that Kerry get someone good like Kildare, Kerry would destroy us in Croker (so would Kildare probably).

Provincial titles don't matter a sh1te to Kerry!

The fact that they've made 5 all ireland finals in a row merits at least a top 3/4 place?? I know they're out of form but write them off at your peril!

Newbridge would suit me fine-a 30 minute drive!

    I remember that game well.

I would have thought neutral venues at this stage as well-does anyone know for sure what the story is?

Lads, can we please quit with the Kerry bashing here?

And before somebody accuses me of being biased, I'm from Donegal.

I remember that alright. 2001 was the year and Devenney was on fire. We built up a good solid lead and promptly fell asleep.

ah 2001 and another sam maguire heading across the Shannon i think it got kicked around the main street in tuam before we sent it back we should have done the double that year as well but left the hurling behind us to cork in the final we will put it right this year:P:P:P:P

bayviewclose said that kerry lost their provincial final. But i said that they didnt make the final.
I never said that they dont deserve to be in the top teams. Just a mere correction, thats all.

    Draw as follows

    Kerry v Galway
    Kildare v Meath or Roscommon
    Wicklow v Limerick
    Donegal v Antrim

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 456 ✭✭twenty8

Just heard that it is Kildare v Roscommon / Meath and Wicklow v Limerick Draw won't be on tv till later - my source is normally fairly reliable! As a Kildare man I would love that result. Will also give us an extra week!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,553 ✭✭✭soccymonster

How was this on Kildare Radio before our National Broadcaster???

Always thought the draws were done live on TV to avoid accusations of fixing etc?

This draw is also being reported on other sites, so either a massive hoax or the actual draw. I am slightly confused because I was under the impression that teams that had already played each other could not be drawn together again.

In 2001, the first year of the Qualifiers, the word was out in Roscommon that we had to play Galway hours before it was on RTE. I think it was announced on local radio.

It should be live but it seems to be prerecorded and I suppose the Team Managers etc are told and spread the word before it is shown TV.

sorry about that and apologies to all Limerick fans out there. So used to Kerry Cork finals.. Another reason for not putting Kerry in as number two seed.

this is gathering pace on a few forums now. it can be true as i think the draws are always done early. i had a friend on the kerry panel a few years ago and one of the draws was known to the team before it was actually "made"

however, we wont know until its confirmed, but remember all the fuss over the 2001 draw?
