Can anybody tell me if the tape used by rugby players in a single strip over strained muscles is kinesio tape? Also where could I get it in Cork and would it be any good for a low grade medial ligament strain?

yes i think it is kinesio tape that you are referring to however i am not sure where you may get it in cork - possibly ask your local physio or else you could buy it on line from a supplies company e.g. physioneeds.ie

a word of caution though - kinesio tape is supposed to work in a variety of different ways including activating and inhibiting muscles as well as helping to clear bruising among a variety of different things. its affect will vary depending on how you apply the tape.

as for your injury in my experience (limited as i am a recent graduate) kinesio tape would not be off much benefit and you would be better off using the standardized zinc oxide tape to provide stability - however i would only be taping the area if you needed to play an important game or some such activity. by far the best course of action is exercises that slowly allow the ligaments to regain strength and ease you back into activity.

long story short dont waste your money on kinesio tape whereas it has its uses but they will not benefit your injury much.

    hope this helps
