    I went "ouch jaguar".

I know my limits, suffering is not one. In fact, I may try to do the most relaxed 40km TT ever. I think if i get it done in 4hrs 10 mins 0secs, I will have earned enough respect from folk here to cover up my horrendous performance.

As I said on the other thread, 40km is probably the fairest distance. Too short and it'll be the big power merchants who will clean up. 40km leaves the lighter guy in with a shout.

What about the big power merchants heavy useless bastards.

Don't see either distance suiting me. Maybe a 1 km downhill would be best for my uniue abilities

Have no fear Tunney. Our next challenge will involve bus-dodgems. ;)

I still think we should do both to suit all !!
    10 km first
    and couple of weeks later
    40km
And therefore the real pain lovers will turn up for the 2nd .... sort out the
men from the boys so to speak ...no offence girls !!

But if we can only do one ... 40km is it !!!

    Biker Joe

    10 miles of suffering
    Yes, we should do both.

However, if we do the 10 miler first it is likely to drop the attendance at the 40km one, since people will know first hand how tough it is. Boo.

So my preference would be to capitalise on ignorance and go in at the deep end.

40KM with the amount of PP that plan to participate might be a bit much. Unles sthe WAGs are planning to Marshall.

I will doing it with the Fixie, my Road bike will be having surgery that weekend and not be ready that day

Yeah you're right. On a regular spin I'd call it flat.

i'd be up for both, though i'd say 10km first then 40km after....

if 40km first its likely to lead to lots of DNF's?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,995 ✭✭✭✭blorg

    10 miles of suffering
It is most definitely not flat, it is rolling... gentle but rolling.

Does that early of a start suit everybody?
I work till six.. And dont have a car.
I should be able to take time off but I still have the problem of getting there... I know I need to warm up but cycling from the phoenix park there is too far.
    How are y'all getting there?

Anyone have a spare bike rack place?

Can anyone make a map, im not familiar with the area..

@Steinone- 7pm is pretty standard for the club leagues, any later and you will be running the races into darkness. There were around 32 out there tonight and I only got back home at 10pm.

It's around 17km from the Phoenix Park, it is NOT too far to cycle. If you leave the Park at 6pm you will be there well before 7. I'll be cycling out myself like I do every other week (alternates with Brittas.) If you can get a lift do, but don't feel you can't cycle it.

Important thing to note: the start point is NOT in Batterstown, it is a bit before it- I will post full details with a course profile by tomorrow. (It is NOT flat, it is rolling, you are going up or down a gradient of 2-3% about half the time, not a lot but makes a difference in a time trial.)

    10 miles of suffering
Here's the course and a profile:

    th_Boards_TT_Route.png th_Boards_TT_Elevation.png

As to gradients it is more like constant 1-2%, I think there is only a brief glimpse of 3% in there :) Definitely not faster on a fixie though!

The exact start/finish point is at N53.45839 W6.51215

I would love to do this.. Unfortunately, the only cycling I've done in a long, long time is to and from college or work.. On my mountain bike. :D I'm planning on getting me a shiny road bike (when I find one tiny enough for me/can afford one :(! :pac:), then working my way into being fit enough for these spins and challenges. Unbelieveably jealous of you guys, but it will be me soon!

Whoa I was way off! I google mapped it and it gave me next to trim!
That distance should be ok as a warm up if I get the time to take it easy out there.

It would be interesting to post up the times we want/expect to compare after...Or embarrassing...Ok everyone but me....

For those of us that don't own GPS units, what are the landmarks and parking at the start?

BTW, I stickied the other thread on this madness challenge.

I'm out. Two hard spins this weekend, and I bonked on today's one. And my daughter is ill. And I don't like pain. Wimp list for me.

I'll come along to spectate/marshall if I can. Sorry!

How long does it take to get to start from Castlekock?
What time is sufficient for last cyclist.
I won't finish work till maybe 6.30 tomorrow?

I'm afraid I have to withdraw my offer for helping out. Suffering from a bit of saddle soreness and I don't think I can sit on a bike for a few days at least.

Parking is generally done 1-2km up the road in the town. There isn't much in the way of landmarks at the start, there is a house or two on the left hand side of the road and a farm gate on the right (as seen heading away from Dublin.) Hopefully someone with a GPS or who knows it will be there though!

We are down to 17 victims. That's a quorum IMO.
Less people means less waiting around at the start :p
