would like to hit this - but outta cash - do you reckon it will sell out quickly ?????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,451 ✭✭✭blastman

I've got a ticket to see them in Brighton at the fan club gig for the same reason - didn't think they'd come back here after leaving Ireland out of the tours supporting the last two albums! This is great news!

Good to see tickets.ie getting the gig, too.

Difficult to judge. They kind of epitomise the phrase, "loyal fanbase", so all the die-hards will jump on it, plus it's a smaller venue than last time.

Little bump to remind anyone interested that this is on on Thursday and isn't sold out yet, as far as I know. It's a mostly acoustic show on the back of the "Less Is More" album, so it won't be too strenuous if you're feeling tired in the latter part of the week. :)

I was def gonna go, but not sure can I now. Oddly with it being acoustic, I'm lesse enticed. I'm gonna regret this one aren't I?

Really looking forward to it. I downloaded one of the shows from their website and I've been playing it a lot over the last few weeks. I like a lot of the new arrangements. It'll be interesting to see what they do in the second half of the show, 'cos some of the latter gigs on the tour seem to have been dictated more by the audience, usually wanting vintage (1987/1989) material, just for the fun of it.

Don't be put off by the acoustic bit, it's still a pretty big sound with everything from dulcimers to the kitchen sink thrown in. I was at the opening gig in Brighton and it was good if a bit nervous. The concensus seems to be it's getting better as the tour goes on and this is nearly the last date of it.

Delbert, are you on the MOLF? :)

Having seen Marillion 4 times before (inc Wembly Arena 1992 and Hammersmith 1994), I think Im gonna give this a miss.
Marillion have released some great stuff in the past, but there last 2 offerings, inc "less is more" are poor.
Besides, Im still irked after I asked Steve Hogarth to sign my ticket stub in 2004. Although he signed it, he never once looked at me.
For a band with such a small (although loyal fanbase), H cannot afford to treat his fans with such little respect.

headin along to this on my own on - hoping it's a crackin show........must download one of the gigs to get a feel for it.....

No, but I'll probably register to enthuse about Thursday's show. :D

You put a lot of effort into bearing grudges, mate (I see you have one against Kiss as well). Life's too short. He signed your ticket, what more do you want?

While I appreciate your comments about the decline in album quality dictating your level of interest, I wouldn't not go to the show on the basis of this autograph experience.
I've got a lot stuff signed over the years by various people. Sometimes, people are just too tired to take much interest, but I attribute it to being a bad day. I've seen artists completely refuse to sign anything and on other occasions be more than happy to chat for a few minutes and sign albums. It just depends. Yes, it can be disappointing, but I wouldn't let it dissuade you from going to the gig.

Hey guys, I'll be there with my badgered wife:D. I'm really looking forward to this gig, I was lucky enough to get to the convention in holland in march and that totally changed my view on these guys! After somewhere else I was a bit lost but they came screaming back with happiness and the new acoustic versions have really impressed me.
I'll see you all there, loud with the lights out...:D

*cue onslaught of flaming* ... I love Fish-era Mariilion but could never take to Hogrth's vocals hence I won't be going to this gig ..... Im glad to see the band playing in Dublin again , was at their Misplaced Childhood Gog in the SFX many moons ago ... and it was epic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,451 ✭✭✭blastman

No flaming, I can completely relate to that. I was a huge fan of the Fish era and it took me a long time to come back as I lost interest after the first couple of albums after he left. I'm glad I did come back, though!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 242 ✭✭bigdaddyliamo

I love the fish era stuff as that was what got me into them in the first place. I missed his gig in the sugar club though...:(. I liked 13th star but the previous stuff was weak by his standards. Also, is it just me or is his voice starting to loose its range? Still class though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 242 ✭✭bigdaddyliamo

If anyone is interested some folks from the forum will be meeting up in the porterhouse on parlament street before the gig!

They seem to be releasing most of the gigs - so I see no reason they wouldn't be recording this one.......was a bit down earlier and wasn't too bothered about the gig - but just stuck on a couple of tracks on youtube and ya know what this is gonna be excellent....

anyone know is there a support tonight - just trying to gage what time the gig will be over at....

Button factory says 7;30. I'm getting my tickets there so don't know what it says on them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 983 ✭✭✭CiaranK

I don't know if there is a support ban either. No harm in going. Just hang out at the seats at the bar at the back of the venue. It's a great little place!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,550 ✭✭✭NIBBS

    cheers Ciaran......

yeah, will probably hang on here another while, tickets say doors open 7:30 - so I was thinking there's no support - which is fine by me........

will just give the new album another spin on the way up to the Button Factory - always liked the venue, should be perfect for something like this acoustic set......
and then I'm there again tomorrow night for W.A.S.P. the gigs just keep on coming :D

Cool. Havn't actually heard Less Is More yet. I've heard a few songs on youtube. Sounds great. I'll have to pick it up during the week. r if they have it for sale tonight I might get it there. The set up of the tour looks really cool! It's gonna be a cracker!! W.A.S.P. Thats cool, Not heard much of there stuff to be honest. I'm going to Horslips on Saturday night, That will be a great show too!! Any idea how long the gig will be? I'm thinking if doors 7:30 then show might start at 8.

First listen I wasn't too impressed - but it's growing on me the more it gets played, won't ruin the surprise of the setlist - but looks like the recent gigs have been 20-23 songs, so what 2hrs 30 ????
Setup looks so relaxed it's cool.....

yeah WASP are balls out Metal, Horslips should be class on Sat, would probably have gone but I'm doing the 12Pubs starting early on Sat - can't afford another gig this week :-)

that's what I was thinking - doors at 7:30 - gig should start before 8:30 anyway, if it starts at 8 over around 10:30 and straight down for the bus home.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 983 ✭✭✭CiaranK

I'll be the very same. Hopefully catch the last bus at 11. Gonna go get a bit of grub then head soon. I supose I'll post a review. Might bump into you there. Hahaha. Enjoy the gig!!

Stunning show. I think they really enjoyed it too. The crowd were excellent as well - respectfully quiet for the songs in the first half, which was great, especially as some reports of Glasgow were of non-stop chat all night, due to the poor venue. Highlights for me were If My Heart Were A Ball, It's Not Your Fault and Three Minute Boy. Bought tons of reasonably-priced merchandise. May have to reassess my gigs of the year list.

    Go!
    Interior Lulu
    Out Of This World
    Wrapped Up In Time
    The Space
    Hard As Love
    Quartz

    Crosseyed and Painless (excerpt, impromptu)
If My Heart Were A Ball
    It's Not Your Fault
    Memory Of Water
    This Is The 21st Century

    Cover My Eyes
    Beautiful

    This Train Is My Life
    You're Gone
    80 Days
    Gazpacho

    Easter
    Answering Machine
    Three Minute Boy

How can they call it "Less Is More" when they've so much gear on the stage?

kick ass show, loved the vibe in the venue. Rothery's solos blew me away and the whole show was really tight. I managed to meet the guys and get some photo's as well. Result!:D

WOW!! What a show. I enjoyed it so much. I was right up the front. Second row for most of it, first row when they came back after the break. Took some videos on my phone. I actually got all of Less is more I think. Battery went at the encore. I will post them onto youtube. They're not great but thery're still watchable. I will post them here when I have it done. Was talking to some really nice guys before hand. They're going to Horslips tomorow night top. Can't wait for it! When I was going I didn't know what to expect. Hadn't heard there new album yet. But now I am a complete convert!! Gonna get most of the back catolauge. Well done to the guy who got Crosseyed and Painless. I love that song. Got there just before me. He was beside me. Andrew I think his name was. Great gig all round!!
