    Hey,

Recently left the old gym (David lloyd) for recessionary reasons and I was kinda getting sick of the place. I have been reading through the gym review sticky but nothing seems to stick out for me there plus some of it is quite old. I was wondering if someone could suggest a gym for me to check out. I was looking at total fitness in Sandyford. I live in Blackrock however which could be an issue. I crossfit mainly so free weights, pullups, running, rowing would be a must and just a generally flexible gym would be nice. Near enough too would be nice also.

Any suggestions? thanks for your time.

    You could try Crossfit......:D
Unless of course tallaght is too far.

Laughlinstown Leisure centre has a power rack, two pull/chin bars, a bench a few bars, a decent bit of weight, concept2's and treadmills.

But I could really see it being difficult trying to get crossfit WOD's done.
Its hard enough finding space to deadlift when its half busy.

have you heard of bluepool in monkstown?

i stuck my head in there for a sec and it was all machines but there might be another free weights area that i didn't see. I heard it's cheapish and doesn't get pack but not sure how reliable that is

    also

    http://www.bhaf.ie/index.php

one person on here recommended it, apparently the showers aren't the cleanest but the equipment is good, looks inexpensive too

i'd love if someone set up a crossfit further south than the current one, it's just too bloody far to go with the traffic

Westwood (leoparstown) is alot closer to blackrock than total fitness, i'm not sure if it's cheaper but if you were ballsy and had some cop you might get a good deal in westwood

not sure how doing crossfit things would go down there thought, you can't really do a bunch of cleans then run off into the distance for time

    No Rack.

    I asked.
It would only cost 6.50 to find out though.....

    Crunch UCD?

It's certainly not decent but it ticks the rest of your boxes and its cheap.
    €180 at the mo.

Ahh FFS a gym without a rack, I hope they have water in the fecking pool

I was swimming there a while ago and was thinking of going to the gym. I think €6.50 got you a go in the gym and a "quick dip" in the pool. But a proper go in the pool & gym costed about twice that. I asked the guy could I do the opposite i.e. full hour in the pool and a "quick dip" i.e. 10mins in the gym as all I wanted to do was squat. But if they have no racks... The guy did say it should not be a problem though.

Im a big fan of TF sandyford. Just back actually.

I'm in Leopardstown, depending on where you are in blackrock it could be a fair old trek there and back. Lots of lights and roundabouts to slow you down on way.

If you're in hte Mater Herc's is probably a better option. Depends where you're based really.

    Actually not necessarily.
Blue Water and laughlinstown are Council Gyms.
So The years subs would struggle to get bar weights and a rack.

Not sure about Blue Water but Loughlinstown isn't any cheaper than most gyms.

660 a year wouldn't go that far considering, rack, bench, bar, weight and flooring.

    Yeah I agree.

I'm just making the point that Loughlinstown is no cheaper than most private gyms. And it ain't exactly a great gym.

I aint gonna let you sit here and talk no smack bout my Crib, Dog.

    Seriously, though.
    Whats wrong with it?
Its got a few cardio machines, a rack, a bench. Bars Lots of weight,
    Pull & dip station.
    A spare pull up bar.
    Dumbells.
Its even got 2 lat pull downs and a cable pull down.

What the hell else do you want?
    A frickin tread-stepper?
    A running track?
(Incidentally its 450 PA. not 660.)
