Normally i don't put covers on gadgets as it ruins the sleekness of the device but having invested a ball of cash on my iphone, i decided in the interest of protecting it and possibly selling it in 12 months time i went for this:

    http://ifrogz.com/products.php?cat=432&wrap_overlay=4504|IP3GSoftTouch

One of the lads has it and its not like the normal lump of plastic around the iphone, this actually compliments it. The cost is $30 & shipping is about $6 bring the total price through paypal of €26 delivered. Shipping takes 7 working days!

the ifrogz iphone 3g case is really nice. I don't have it myself but I've heard good things about it.

Check out my youtube channel if you are looking for some suggestions for a good cover for your iphone.

The Zagg invisible shield offers great scratch protection for the device but it's not gonna protect it from a drop.

One of the best cases at the moment is the candyshell.

I really think that looks awful? There are so many cases out there..that would be one of the last ones I would have gone for.

I used to have an Incase Slider for my iphone 2g and will probably buy the same again for the 3gs whenever I can pick one up.

The ifrogz case (clear version, shows every piece of dust).

It 'glides' on with some force and the back connection cracked. O2 store sell them for €16

any of the case-mate range are excellent

i have this one. its the "signature" and its premium italian leather with one of the most rugged belt clips there is.

Switcheasy capsule rebel is an excellent case.

I have an incipio feather and love it. Its a slim case and offers scuff protection for the back, which is all I wanted.

I bought a neo from switcheasy and hated it. returned it 3 weeks ago and am yet to get my money back and they aren't replying to my emails the little bastards.

I've had this: http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/reflect3g for the past 4 months or so. Absolutely class case - and still looks like an iphone (which is not the case with a lot of other products out there).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 184 ✭✭scottyboy1973

I think the choice of case ultimately depends on your need - if you're a businessman, maybe leather will suit better or if yo have kids like me, something very rubberised is a better solution - it bounces! A hard case that sits tight to the iPhone is great for stopping scratches but wont break a fall.

And for just a few quid a screen protector has to be a no brainer.

It is a shame to wrap up something so beautiful and sleek but, given the amount of cash we pay for them, it probably makes some sense I guess.

Anyone have any thoughts on the stick-on decal cases? I've seen a few of them on Swingkings iPhone site and I aint convinced on the benefits?

I picked up a SwitchEasy CapsuleNeo yesterday and it's a great product, very easy to fit and comes with a video stand and an adapter so it will fit in a dock with the case on which is pretty handy.
It completely covers the phone and has two extra pieces to cover the headphone and charging ports when not in use,
Well worth a try if your looking for a new case.

I use the Sena Ultra Slim Iphone case. Its leather and the phone slips out when I want to use it. Had the same case for my iPod Touch (specific version for the touch) and loved it so I got the iPhone version as soon as i got the phone.

€29 Delivered from the US with fedex priority shipping.

The CapsuleNeo does look very good. What I'm looking for is something very thin/discreet but that will protect it if dropped.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,470 ✭✭✭JoeA3

I've tried 3 different cases already. I bought a Belkin leather pouch (not too unlike that Sena one above) on the day I got it. Obviously, being a pouch it gives the phone great protection, but the trouble is, you have to keep pulling it out every time someone calls you - I found that a bit irritating to be honest, and I also felt the phone was liable to fall any time I pulled it from the pouch.

So then I got a leather Sena "walletbook" case. This is very nice, gives great protection, very good leather, and allows much easier access to the phone... however it's a little bulky and I guess it hides the iPhone a bit too much.! Perfect for a night out though if you want an all-in-one wallet + phone.

Finally, best (and cheapest) case of all IMO - The Incipio Feather. It gets the balance between reasonable protection and "bulk" just right. You'd hardly know its on it really! I guess it doesn't give any impact protection from a fall as such, but it's perfect if you just want to save the back from getting scratched. The phone also feels grippier, less likely to fall from your hand with it on. So for regular day to day use, I'll probably stick with this one.

Really love the look if that CapsuleNeo cover , if only i could get someone to pick me up a factory unlocked iPhone as the cash is burning a hole in my sock drawer ..:o

i use this and find it great.it doest take away too much from the look of the phone, 19.90 in carphone warehouse

the contour cases are really nice.

The flick is a good case and so is the showcase.

Contour are a good make; only bad thing is, you don't get a screen-protector with them.

Just got delivery of one of these yesterday (incipio feather that is), I would also recommend to anyone looking for a very slim cover that protects the back of the phone. Didn't bother using the included screen protector, its impossible to get those things on without having air bubbles.

Agreed. I fail to see the point of them anyway. The screen seems the most scratch-resistant part of the whole phone, a mate of mine has a year old 3G and his screen is completely scratch-free, never had a protector on it.

The shiney plastic back does mark easily alright, as does the chrome!

I have a Speck case for mine. Got it on eBay and it came with a screen protector. I went with the grey and green colour combo.

The reason i went with it was because it has a tight fit with no obtruding bits (I hate that with phone covers) The outside of the case is hard while the inside is rubber so the phone itself doesnt get scratched or marked. I like the way the silent switch is housed too because it prevents accidentally switching to silent by mistake in your pocket.

The only fault I give it can be the power button is a pain if you need to reset.

I think i paid less than €20 online for it inc delivery

Protecting the back is all well and good but what about the screen ?

Is there a slim line case on the market that covers the whole phone and still makes it usable ?

I just use the Zagg Invisible Shield on mine.
Basically a scratch resistant cover for front and back.
And it does the biz..now I just lump the itouch into my pocket and not have to worry about it..
drops are another story though :D

    I've got this...

    http://www.trustedreviews.com/peripherals/review/2008/09/03/Gear4-iPhone-3G-Case-Roundup/p5

I find it fine, don't get too annoyed by the problem mentioned with the power button. I have no frame of reference against any other cover and only have it a week, but for €7.95 in HMV it was worth a punt and is doing the job so far.

Agree with what others have said - spend ages trying to get the screen protector thingy on and couldn't get it to sit with no bubbles - any spec of dust at all meant they couldn't be pushed out either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,191 ✭✭✭dinneenp

    Most of them seem good...HMMM

Which one is the thinnest that offers drop protection?

Anyone familar with More Ultra Slim Silicone case

    Cheers.

Ok, finally got my IPhone cover today from Ifrogz, ordered it on the 13th July and delivered today. I know its not exactly the thinest cover but its a snug fit and its not plastic looking. The pics on the link in the OP do not do it justice.

If your looking for something to protect against a fall, i'd recommend this one. It comes with a screen protector to, but after using it for a day, i took it of. I think it makes the IPhone look tacky.

Prob not the best but only €15 in one of those phone shops underneath Jurys in Parnell St
Then an 'Expect' (think that's what they're called) screen shield from HMV and we're good to go! (better than the mottled look of them invisible shield things)

Would love one of those Incipio Hero covers though!

Whats the flap ? Magnetic holder or some form of belt clip ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,220 ✭✭✭cojomo2

that flap isnt visable when the phone is pushed down...basically its a tab, you pull on it to raise the phone out of the case, then when u push the phone back down, the tab automatically goes down till it sits flush with the case..

the problem with most iphone cases is that they look cheap..thats because the are(not the retail price though!)

The are mostly made from plastic, rubber, pvc etc....

Cant beat a top quality leather case that designed with ease of use in mind so it easy to take calls etc without having to fumble about with flaps etc

I have gone through about 12 cases, Im sticking with the leather one, but the griffin clear plastic one i found good too, but still looks cheap and takes away from the look of the phone.
