I bought a set of dumbells and was wondering if anyone had any good links to exercises I could do with them, like what types of lifts are good for what muscles etc. I haven't started doing free weights in the gym yet so have no real idea. Might be starting on free weights this weekend though.

Also, what free weight lifts and exercises would be best for weight loss?

Great link for all kinds of exercises.
Well weight training in itself won't lead to weight loss immediately, once you have more muscle you will burn through calories faster due to the increased requirement of energy needed to sustain your muscles.

Go for the basic lifts, squat, deadlift and bench.

Yeah, I'm mostly doing cardio at the gym, about 40mins cardio, 20 mins weights, 4 times a week. Although planning on doing more cardio at weekends and more weights at home on days I don't go to the gym.

Cheers for the link, I'll give it a look when I get the chance.

man your best bet is to get a trainer to call out to you or go to a gym for a session with a trainer.

Its really hard to learn good technique from the internet

Basically you should aim to cover all the main muscle groups
chest, back, thighs, hamstrings, shoudlers and NOT Arms, arms arms

Yeah, I'm definitely going to get the trainer at the gym to go over some stuff with me at the weekend. Legs are one area I really want to work on, but I might have to go to a physio because I have had some problems with my right leg in the past. Not planning on going mad at home, just a few exercises here and there

Here's a good page with animations on how to do the exercises.
