Losing

In that north-facing kitchen,
When sheets of misty rain
Trampled across the grey horizon,

You stood, pale as the early dawn,
Your hand trembling slightly on the table-edge,
Refusing to believe his simple words.

And me, in foolish comfort - 'It’s probably for the best.'
My voice, crackling like a scratched old 78,
Tore a gaping hole in the silence it replaced.

Your look, slow and sorrow-wise, as if to say,
It'll happen to you someday,
Made me the unwanted stranger at an ancient wake.

That's mad ctrl - I'd totally forgotten I'd posted that here back in the day.

(In fact I'd totally forgotten I'd ever even registered on boards.ie before - and I never would have remembered the 'ziggy sawdust' username)

Anyway, thanks for posting the link - I didn't remember getting so many positive replies - and it was great just reading through them there again.

Must try and do some more 'proper' writing again - unfortunately these days its all brochures, radio-ads and websites....but I'll just have to make the time I guess.

Thats a great poem, very creative
