Just a quick question of personal interest...

Do you guys count the bar when lifting? So when you say you bench or squat xxx kgs is that including the weight of the bar?

It weighs 20kg in the gym no? I was just wondering because I get used to not counting the bar when I work out at home because it isn't an olympic one and is pretty light so when I'm in the gym I just forget about it. And was wondering if everyone else was like that. :)

When it's 20kg count it, when it's an Argos one weighing a pound or two forget it.

I'd count the weight of that bar too - if it is an Argos 5 foot solid bar it's about 6 kg.

I don't actually count the weight normally so if someone asks me what I lift I usually answer with what's on the bar.

I was kinda chuffed the other day to realise that including the bar I'm squatting 15kg over my body weight.

I have a friend who uses the Smith machine all the time (yes he's that guy ).

He tried to convince me that the bar was in fact 20 kg. I, who hates to be wrong, brought the weighing scales over and told him to stand on them with the bar on his shoulders, then told him to stand on it without the bar. We found out that the bar was 9kg.

    I was happy :)
