    NTL, Sky, Terrestrial, or other?

NTL is cheaper, as far as I can tell. It seems to be very limited in terms of channels (only about 17). No extra charges for multi-room viewing and nice bundles with telephone/broadband

Is Sky the only way to get HD television? Sky is meant to come bundled with something like a hundred channels, but there seems to be extra costs for everything. Sky + looks very attractive though.

Is it possible to get free satellite television, or is an old fashioned, poor quality aerial the only option if you don't want to fork out?

P.S. I have heard that you can get free digital channels with NTL, but how to go about this remains a mystery to me.

how many rooms do you want tv in?

have you got a hd tv?

how much are you willing to spend?

you can get a combo box that will give you sat and terrestrial channels , one off payment.

That combo box idea looks nice...

    But what's the catch?

you need to see one of the main transmitters ( for the time being)

    for digital RTE.
but they will give you all the bbc and itv also hd. and the advantage you can record also.

There is no catch. You receive the free satellite channels. You wont get anything like Sky One or anything like that but it will give you all the UK terrestrials and their extra channels (with the exception of the extra channels from five)

I just have Analog at the minute for the 4 Irish channels (perfect pictures). I gave back the DTT receivers I was testing.

I've cancelled Sky (several times). I can't see me renewing again. We get all the main UK channels free on Satellite.

IMO you only need PayTV for certain kinds of Sport.

Can you buy these combos in shops? And by transmitters do you mean the actual satellite dish? It sounds much better value than around E30 a month for either NTL or Sky, particularly if you aren't getting broadband or phone bundled in. Hell, what am I paying E25 a month for 16 channels for, notwithstanding good quality of picture?

here is a place to get them (there are other places)

there is a list of channels available on that site.

transmitters are the large masts you can see around the country on top of mountains,

have a look on the terrestrial forum loads of info there.
