wool jersey

I've been sending a few emails back and forth and if we were really interested in wool jerseys Woolistic could do something very similar to the existing jersey, simplified a little. Their quality is excellent, 100 per cent merino, soft wool - if you've seen me in a Cinzano jersey, that's Woolistic.

Minimmum order of 35 between short and longsleeve, estimated price qround 60 sterling so probably 75 euro plus import charges.

Who's interested? If we can get close to 35, I might cover the difference and sell them off later.

In France til Sunday so I can't answer questions until then.

    Might be in for this

I might be, depending on the design.

    Maybe a monochrome version?

Do they have usable pockets? i.e. will I need a saddlebag?

Does anyone know what they are like in warm weather.
I wear the Rapha sportswool jersey a lot, and love the quality. But they are too warm in hot weather (say 18degrees and upwards).
    Are these jerseys similar.

I'm provisionally interested, rottenhat. Not sure if it'll match my 8-speed cassette though... might have to remove a couple of cogs ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,995 ✭✭✭✭blorg

Sounds good, I would be on for one. We would have to make it a suitably retro design, not just try to copy the current jersey I reckon.

would be nice for winter, a long sleeved version.
    registering provisional interest.

Sorry Blorg - didn't mean to "copy" your post - just came out that way !

Def go for the retro look

I don't know. Something hot like pink or lime green would work. You don't want it looking like your grandad's jersey.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,676 ✭✭✭Gavin

Also interested. Prefer to stick with current design. KISS

someone did a good simple blue retro design in some thread somewhere some time ago.

    The current jerseys aren't wooltastic.

These are the designs I liked.

If your grandad was Coppi or Merckx that is exactly how you want it to look!

These ones are a bit modern and look good:

The classics look good too though:
    green-box2.jpg

The current design, much as I like it, simply wouldn't work in wool (if it was even possible, which from any wool jersey I have seen I doubt.)

    Like the Molteni jersey.

However it has to be pink. Suggest pink with black trim.

I have a merino/mohair jumper in a fantastic pink colour. Most comfy jumper even - so smooth. I will post picture so folks can see the pink and maybe vote on it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,995 ✭✭✭✭blorg

No mainly pink jersey. No, just no. Too divisive. Black with pink trim might be acceptable. I do not think the fact your jumper jersey is pink makes it comfortable (who knows though, maybe you are just more comfortable psychologically in a pink jumper :))

that jersey reminds me of my old Loraine CC jersey.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,833 ✭✭✭niceonetom

    ^^^^^

    I made that :)

Do woolistic have design specs to work from? Because the design above was working from a template from another wool jersey manufacturer and they were limited to just applying embroidered lettering to stock, blank jerseys. Pink wasn't an option then, and font choice etc was very limited.

With woolistic we may have more freedom to be as ridiculous as we want. Time to crank up my PhotoChop?

Tom's style is good, but how's about going with the current jersey colours on it. This way it will match bib shorts and other gear

Provisionally interested too. Just to note, there wouldn't be any import charges, given that it's coming from the Switzerland.

    http://www.vintagevelos.com/clothing1.html

This website gives an idea as to what is possible.

Check out the House Industries jersey on the site.
The sleeve logo has 33 Racing

We could have 410 cycling or something.

I clicked on Cinzano but the picture didn't get any bigger

The House jersey is very nice.

well black with a pink trim ala Rapha Condor would be acceptable.

I like pink and black, but I really loved the boards kit design that had the little boardsie head creeping out of the back pocket - class.

    we should put in the

I'm not sure that is right, Switzerland is not in the EU (or even the EEA although through bilateral treaties they have effectively the same staus as the other EFTA members.) They are certainly not in the customs union. They get preferential tarrifs AFAIK. Open to correction.

OK, to answer a few questions.

The material of the Woolistic jerseys is a bit thicker than the sportwool Rapha use, probably in part because it is 100% wool instead of 40%. It does keep you warm but wool is highly breathable and naturally wicking so you don't get as hot as you might imagine - it would be a rare day indeed in Ireland that I would find too hot for a wool jersey. That said, experience suggests that I prefer warmer conditions than some of you (or else I'm just not working hard enough to work up a sweat). If you have a wool jersey that makes you feel hot at 18C, then I imagine this would too. So wear it when it's 13C instead, which sadly seems rather more common in this country.

The jerseys come with the standard three pockets and you can get as much into them as any other jersey. They don't have the fancy canted openings and other features that Rapha jerseys do.

The chap I've been talking to says they have new processes that allow them to make wool jerseys with almost any design you want - I pitched him the current (synthetic) design less the alternating domino pattern on the shoulder and the non-Boards logos and he said that would be no bother. The colour palette is not restricted as it is with Portland because these are full custom jerseys, not blanks with your logo embroidered on it. I'll ask him for a full design spec so Tom can unleash his design hounds but I must say that I really would like this jersey to match the existing kit. Not to be identical necessarily but to keep the colour scheme and general concept.

That said, the G.S. Emi jersey is totally on my Christmas list...scorchio!

Yes to wool, yes to a touch of retro (go Tom!), no to pink in any significant way, yes to existing kit matching.

I bought a black long sleeved merino base layer (this is the ladies version on Wiggle, no men's in stock) in January and wore it a lot until May, when it finally got too warm to wear with other stuff, but still very comfortable on its own. The breathability and wicking ability of the fabric are surprising, and overall I think it is more comfortable than anything synthetic. Best of all, it doesn't get into a stink as quickly as synthetics.

A lot of you probably already knew all that.

I love the idea of a boards version. Good man rottenhat, count me in.

    Have finally done this.

At a rough count, we have twenty interested parties which is a little over halfway there but I'm hoping we can get a few more people on board once we have a finalised design to show them. If I make the spins over the next few weeks, I'll wear the Cinzano jersey so people can get a sense of cut and weight.

Well, that was a quick response....
if you mean a Template, here is one we use. Someone needs to know illustrator, but design as you like
so, is there anyone who both wants to tweak the design and has Illustrator?

    This one get my vote
How about this one then? the grey is to be a bit more of a 'black on black' sorta thing, or a ghosted logo. I'm keeping pink cos it seems just over half the folk on here want pink!

    attachment.php?attachmentid=78639&stc=1&d=1241032839

It simply has to have (1) pink, (2) black and especially (3) the little boards head popping out of the back pocket.
    Class.
