Just worth mentioning today that the new battlefield hits PSN today. I think it'll be around €10 with 3 maps (including the stunning Wake Island). There is a fourth map but EA will only unlock it when everyone reaches a certain number of kills by a certain date (all of which allude me)... so a good community challenge!

Anyway, just a heads up. Anyone getting it? We should have a boards night of it

Well worth it.

Played it last night on Xbox, it's a really cool game when you consider how cheap it is. The airplanes are deadly but pretty hard to control.

The only problem was getting onto a game on XBL because EA didn't have enough servers. They totally underestimated the level of interest people would have it in it.

EA apparently have said they will have the problem sorted today so there won't be a repeat when it goes on up on PSN.

The new maps will be unlocked for everyone when 43 million suckers lose their lives! How cool is that?

The count starts tomorrow at 19.43 (gmt+1 so 20.43 here)

Apparently there's some other glitch where you can't connect to EA's servers if your Online ID with EA is either the old one, or it has been edited by their customer support. The workaround is apparently to run the facebreaker demo and that fixes it (for some people).

Edit: looking at the EA forums, the fix is only for Xbox, sorry. The problem is apparently still extant for PSN

I think the price will be €12.99, I'm sure it was listed somewhere by Sony.

I am definitely buying this when I get home, really looking forward to the game. BF 1942 was great fun, and it will be nice to play some of those maps again on the PS3.

I'll prob be picking this up alright later, though I'm trying to avoid PS3 or at least multiplayer, because I've just quit smoking and usually get stressed at some point playing multiplayer! :P

Im guessing it will be up around 4 or 5 but im expecting that it will take a while to download, i might have a look at the demo on xbox while im waiting to get a feel for it, but ill buy it on PS3 thats where all my online buddies are.

I think EA are really looking at getting rid of expensive games on disk and just going to make their money from add ons or DLC. Look at Fifa or burnout both of them dropped to around the 30 euro mark very quickly after release and then they brought out loads of add ons.

Definately did you see the Tiger woods stuff on the PSN, fupp'in hell.

If they bring out a Desert combat mod for 1943 i'll definately get it.

Its out now by the way, downloading as I type. One thing, you have to download both the free trial and then the unlock key.

just bought the full game i thought but soon realised it was only an activation key, god dammit!!! downloading the demo now

Yeah I had a game earlier and it loaded no problem. Went straight into a second game no problem too, haven't tried in a while though. Mayeb now that more people have downloaded it, it's harder to get on.

Played 30 min of the trial, really enjoyed it (got by far most kills in both games I played )

Not sure whether to go with the full version as I'm broke and already owe money on my CC.. Might stick out a few days and see what the general verdict is

Played about 2 hours of it now no lag to report or any other problems. Its all running pretty ok for me its good but i feel the maps are a little too big for the amount of people in the games i have done a lot of running for 3 mins to just end up getting shot :mad:

Planes are really hard to use which is good warhawk ones are too easy. I think ive mastered the turning now !!! it took a while and lots of suicides but i can pretty much fly the thing now cant hit anything though still pretty tricky.

Only pain as with all online games is everyone just runs off all over the place i was on a team and i was the only one trying to get flags and keep them.

For 13 euro its good

Enjoyed it a lot more for the last few hours im getting better plus i was playing with people that used tactics :eek: It was brilliant. You ll clean up if you can get 2 or 3 to work together.

Has anyone had this problem with EA with this game or any other. I had with Battlefield Bad Company last year. Sent 5-6 e-mails back and forth to some customer services guy in EA who kept mailing me the same tests to do. You'd need a masters in computer science to understand. For example:


1. Double-click the uotrace.exe file to run it.
2. You will be asked if you wish to download the server list. Answer No to the question, since this option is no longer available.

4. Enter in the name of the server to which you are trying to connect. This can either be an IP address or a web address without the www (ea.com for example)

Once the function is complete, a message that says Traceroute successful will appear in the lower left corner of the window.
* If you get a message saying 'Maximum number of hops exceeded':

This tells the program to send packets of data through the route to the final host. As the data is being sent, look at the "pkts r/s" column. Let it send about 40 packets then select Stop

Don't think it's the servers. Like I said, still have the same problem with Bad Company with the same message and I'm sure there's no server problems with that game.

so far ps3 players (maybe 360) don't seem into the planes alot of the time they just leave em, on pc there are lines for the plane with team kills just to get them.

Its starting to pick up now with the planes took people a while to get used to them they are a little tricky but ive started noticing them getting a lot better (not so many suicides ) And air raids !! no one was using them for a long while.

Has any one figured out the rader sytem i think you have to capture a signal box i was in one game with terrible team mates who wouldnt go for flags and we had no flags and no radar .

Its weird too at times it will shows up lone soldiers and not a great big tank shooting at me !!

Which is a refreshing change from the PC versions. I've been back into BF2 lately and it's annoying to never get a chance to fly a plane. One the PS3 it's nice to be able to have the planes to myself because console players just aren't used to them so don't play them right (my choice for murdering people is to fly off-map, go high, then come back into the map facing towards the ground at an enemy base... stop accelerating & shoot at the 'lil dots )

Yeah I was dominating the skies previously but now I can see other people catching on. It seems very clear to me that this is possibly the first time a LOT of people have had a go of a battlefield game, which is stunning to me (being a veteran, and all ).

was playingthis a bit over the weekend and really enjoying it, although there's a few times whe all i seemed to be able to do was get killed.

mind you, i'm still contributing to the overall number of kills in the community challenge, so it's all good!

there's a couple of spotsthat are really good for campers though which is bad. i got killed 6 times in a row because the two spawn points at the flag at the lighthouse were both directly in the LOS of some git on the other team who as just sitting there picking people of the second they spawned.

mind you, if i hadn't been so determined to get him i'd have spawned somewhere else after the first couple of goes.

mind you, i'm finding the planes a piece of cake compared to other BF games, I just inverted the vertical axis on the controller in settings and had a couple of practice runs on the wake island tutorial and I was hitting the bullseye no bother.

even got a few air-to-air kills in a dogfight too which is great fun and the air strikes are awesome if you can avoid getting shot down by AA fire.

Heres a strange one--Anyone else notice that after 30-40 mins or so of playing that the Ps3`s fan suddenly starts on high.
Its the only game I own that Ive noticed the fan kicking in on and Im worried that my ps3 is starting to act up???

Awesome game though--That Wake Island reminds me of the early days playing clan matches in 1942.Im still useless with the Ps3 controller in any Fps though.

Give me a mouse and keyboard any day and it`ll feel more like the old days

I find FPS alot easier to control with Mouse and keyboard.

It's coming to PC in September, but keep in mind on the PS3/360 version you can change the sensitivity of your X & Y axis...

there is a mouse type yoke for the ps3 that you can use with fps games. i think it might be a logitech one or something. i remember reading in the news that the no.1 psn account on warhawk was someone working for them and that he had one, which was why he was doing so well.

iirc reviews weren't that favourable though, so who knows, maybe just a publicity stunt, or lots of people using the account.

in related news, looks like the 360 crowd have already beaten us to the 43 million kills mark and got the unlocked level.

set new benchmarks to unlock new levels in the game on an ongoing basis.

might be a bit much to ask though for something that's so much fun for so little money.

i have to say though, the air superiority missions in warhawk are some of my favourites, so i'm loking forward to this.
