Has anybody tried to enter the (Addidas Dublin Marathon Race Series )?

I just went onto the website to try and get some info. When i clicked onto link for "Enter the Series Challenge" it took me straight to a page saying thank you for your interest - your entry is now confirmed and is non refundable?

WTF? I didn't get to enter details are anything? Surely that cannot be it? Does anybody know any details of this in terms of price etc and how to actually register?

May be due to the fact that online entry for the 5 mile race closed last Saturday (2 weeks before the event - details for late entry in Lifestyle Sporst shop are on the site).

That said, it doesn't look like any of those links work.

Lol. That's a nice little bug. Someone posted the other day that registration for the 5 mile was closing (think it was on Friday), so you've probably missed the boat for the whole series, but you should be able to sign up for the 10 and 13 mile races, by signing up individually.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,194 ✭✭✭osnola ibax

Does anyone have a elevation profile for the 5 miler? Krusty?

Got my entry in on Thursday for the 5 and 10mi races, it was closing on Friday for 5mi race through online entry, late entries accepted in Lifestyle branches at Blanchardstown s.c. and Jervis center or Mary St. (not sure which of last two it is). The entries for 10mi and half marathon should still be accepted no? since they aint until Aug and Sept...

Is that a new route as it's not what was used for the past 2 yrs?

Last yr it started on OS Rd not far from OS itself - down and took a left on to Furze Rd - Right on to Chester' - Right on to Acres - All the way across acres (not Kyber) - Right on to Upper Glen Rd - Right on to Furze - Left on to Chester' - Left on to OS - and a quick right on to the grass.

Thanks. maybe its just as well the 5mile is closed. I will only be back from holds, and havnt done much training in a while, so might not be ready for it. Hope to do the other 2 day. Have decided to give the marathon a lash - i probably don't have as much training time as i should, but i reckon i can be race fit by Oct. Its my first one, so not expecting miracles.

I took the route from the Adidas race series website http://dublinmarathon.ie/race_series_5mile.php . This new course looks nice and I think the change of downhill to uphill at the Kyber pass/Military road will pose a problem to some runners.

Very fast opening 2 miles there, and a hard second 2 miles making it a hard enough race.

Agreed, tougher course than last year... At least it avoids the Lower Glen road though, always hate that short steep climb out of there!

Tougher alright. Although thankful it has stopped using Furze road as that's the worse road in the park - very boring for some reason.

The new course is giving the runners a taste of what awaits in the 10m and HM as these long uphill sections are used twice (unless of course that's also been changed)

I had a go at this 2 years ago, not as a race, but as a challenge to myself and improve fitness, and it looks like this course is a lot tougher than the course 2 years ago, looks like there will be 2 big hills, one coming from the magazine fort upwards, and one by the hospital. Hope its not too warm on the day.

What would be the best stratagy for the hills ? is it better to keep a constant pace and treat them the same as level ground, or pick up speed and use the natural decline ? obviosly i'll be "limping" up the hills !!

I would say run on effort levels , try and keep it the same on the up hill and flat sections, a lot of people push it harder on the hill and in this race you may pay for that later in the race, the course is hard but not too hard, once you get over the first hill and settle down you'll be grand.

It's definitely a lot more "undulating" than the last few years, so pacing is going to be quite hard. It's up and down all the way from 1km in to about 1km from the end. I presume it's to make life easier for the organisers in some way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,151 ✭✭✭aero2k

Glad I looked at this thread, I didn't realised the route had changed. I'll have a jog over it in the next few days.

Actually I think it's going to make life a lot easier for the runners in one way. Last year there were over 3,000 entrants and I believe that's increased this year. The sharp left turn onto Furze Road in the middle of a big crowd shortly after the start was a real pain last year especially if you were being honest and staying off the grass. The new route means everyone will be well spread out before the turn at the bottom of the Khyber, which isn't too tight anyway. Also the sharp left off Ordnance road towards Farmleigh is gone too, and that was a pain last year as well. I'm not sure how the second uphill will affect times as against the longer downhill down the Khyber. We'll see....

cheers for the advice, i'll try to keep it at a constant level. I haev to say i found it to be a very well organised event from my limited knowledge of them. And the turns weren;t an issue for me before, i stuck to the back and stayed out of the bunch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,170 ✭✭✭Hard Worker

4700 entries in before the online entry closed. There will possibly be a few hundred more taken in Lifestyle Sports on the couple of days before the event.
The 10 mile race will be two laps of this five mile race.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,251 ✭✭✭Andrewf20

Ill be there for the 5 and 10 mile race.

Rudy hill means I wont be close to setting any PBs. :(

Race numbers will be posted out the week before the event :D

The website has last years map for the 10 mile race (route didn't include the Kyber pass) so I am not too sure what the 10 mile course will be for this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,708 ✭✭✭rovers_runner

I'd assume the 10 mile won't change much it at all.
The 5m used to start on one of the smaller roads down the back so with numbers it was necessary to move the start to the main avenue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29 mack10

Are there mile markers on the route?

I did the 5k race in Farmleigh on Sunday and there was no distance markers at all. As a novice runner it really helps to know how fast I'm running.

As far as I remember the 5 mile race did, I know the 10 and 1/2 definitely did.

I was very pleased this morning when I got up to see that my race number had been posted out to me. FANTASTIC. Getting to and from Castleknock College was a reet pain in the backside. I can be home and all by 11 on Saturday morning now. Good times. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 638 ✭✭✭Rusty Cogs 08

Got mine as well. I'd implore anyone going to try and cycle if they can. Parking will be a mare (4,300 signed up so far I think).

Yeah, posting the numbers out is a big improvement. I've lived beside the Park for 18 years and I've only really begun to appreciate how lucky I am in the last year or so, I usually just get into my racing gear and jog to the start.
Looks like been a great event with that huge crowd, I'm looking forward to it. Best of luck!

Got my number in the post yesterday - the info sheet says no parking in Castleknock college this year, not being a dub or very familiar with the park any suggestions on where to park? Thanks.

There's a lot of street parking in Castleknock and the surrounds of the park...there'll be parking around the Furry Glen etc as well getting out of the park will probably be a mare if there's no parking in Castleknock College though, we parking in the College the first year I did the race series and were longer trying to get out than I was running the bloody thing, anytime since we always parked on the street I'll either run down or cycle this year though.

My number is unlucky number 13

Best place to park (if you get there early enough) is on the road that goes from Castleknock Col down to the Farmleigh Gate (White's Road).
Take the turn for Blanchardstown Village from the N3, Take a left onto Castleknock Rd, turn right on to College Rd, take a left at the traffic lights (college gates on the right). Tip try and turn the car before parking to make it easier when leaving later.
Race start and finish are about 1k from the gate.

Keep to your normal schedule, eat and sleep well, and set 45 minutes as a target like me. :)

If you can run 5 miles already, comfortably, you'll be fine on the day, with the adrenaline and the pace of the runners around you you'll get 45 minutes with ease. I had been planning on around 38 minutes for this race until I got injured ...with only a week to go I'd now be happy with anything under 43 minutes.

Got my race number in the post yesterday.
There a mile markers the whole way around the course.
My only target is not to die on the route. Did my 5 miles today in just over 58mins. I'm hoping the the excitement of the day will help me not to take walking breaks!!!! :(

slow down your pace a bit and you'll go faster around

I'm barely jogging faster than my walking pace :(

Got my number yesterday and its over 4,000 so that must be well up on last years' number. Hope the weather is like this morning and not this evening. The two hills ain't as bad as everyone makes out but the times will be slower.

    4700 registered, few 100s still expected = 5000 runners.

5000, holy crap, that's incredible. Does anyone know if there is chip recognition / timing at the start line.

I'd imagine it would be the same number if not more for the other races in the series.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,366 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

Yeah it's chip timimg. The ten miler tends to have bigger numbers and the half has bigger again, I wonder how many more years they'll be able to have it in the park for, will it out grow the phoenix park?

Do you know will they bring forward groups like sub30, sub40

I think the great ireland run has over 10,000 runners so this series should carry on in the park.

No, not usually anyway, there's a lot of jumping onto grass at the start to get past people who are much closer to the front than they should be.

Park gate street is just across the river from Heuston station car park where there should be plenty of parking.

Wouldn't park down there, heading towards heroin country there :D
Better off up the other side of the park I'd say.
It's easy enough get parked up the Castleknock side.

That sounds like a good plan then, I'm coming from coolock area. It's as good as any other plan really isn't it, would it be possible to get parking nearer the start point and not bother with shuttle bus at all?
