Slightly off topic, but we've had a policy for yrs where once a vehicle got to 150,000 miles or 5 yrs it was taken out of service. These figures would equate to roughly 240,000kms at the moment. Considering we have 07 plated vehicles which came into service in 08 with approx 110,000kms on them at the moment, that would give projected total kms at the end of 5 yrs at 660,000kms or 412,500miles. The vehicles we have won't last this let alone anything else. Desk pushers in AGS really need to start looking at the mileage on garda vehicles & have a more realistic view on when changing them. As The Nog stated in a previous post, es vehicles are driven harder then the average family vehicle so therefore will need to be changed more.

I remember that article! It was a lady who was being interviewed. They said that it is becoming more and more difficult to modify the cars due to the computerisation of everything. Apparently they took the rear view mirror off a Volvo S60 so they could fit two effective mirrors. Taking the mirror off resulted in the car not starting.

All they seemed to be doing was lights, sirens, dot matrix led, radio and comms, the power for that, markings and a system to allow the engine to run with no keys to power the extra equipment but that would shut the car off as soon as an attempt was made to drive it off.

And I thought that I was the only person who remembered useless crap!

Well done on finding the article. Guess you are not as lazy as me.

while I agree I have to ask the begging question. When theres literally ZERO money in the kitty how to keep the fleet modern / keep upgrading?????????

All the gucci units in ags will always have gucci cars like bmw, volvo, audi, range rover etc and the regular units will always have crappy family saloon cars until ags management get their heads out of their ar*es and start to buy a standard decent patrol car/jeep/van for across the whole organisation

I would love to know what you mean by a "Gucci" Unit.

There is only one unit with these cars and this is not the place to be discussing them.

Its an army saying.... never mind
And i'll think you'll find that the unit you refer to is not the only unit with those vehicles.
Many traffic units have bmw and volvo and it is publicly known.
The list is endless on other units that have these cars apart from that unit.

Can you please point out where he "discussed" whoever it is you seem to think he's referring to? I don't see any units named?

Also, this is not the place to be discussing the discussion of discussing this unit...

My point is that unmarked vehicles really should not be discussed on a public form, i mean we educate the gougers enough anyway at the best of times without providing them with points of reference regarding vehicle

Well you would have to agree that a range rover is not a common issue, and is fairly unit specific.

I see nothing on this thread that is of any use to "gougers", except the information that YOU provided:
There is only one unit with these cars

...and YOU singled out range rover from:
All the gucci units in ags will always have gucci cars like bmw, volvo, audi, range rover etc

...which is also now potentially helpful to gougers. The post from djtechnics1210 had the vague words: "like" and "etc" to explain he was merely giving examples. You have now drawn specific attention to range rovers.

So in short - practice what you preach and leave the moderation to the mods, some of whom are serving Gardaí.

    Back on topic...
