    Hi,

I am extremely concerned about my health and desperately need to change my lifestyle to prevent heart disease (hope this is correct place as i know fitness is my downfall)

All my grandparents and now my father have had heart problems high cholesterol and several heart attacks despite us changing to low fat foods in 1980.

I am now almost aged 40yrs male and recently my cholesterol has jumped up to 6.9.

I was never any good at sports but i have always tried to walk every day and i love the outdoors.

From 2004 to 2008 i went to the gym at least couple times a week mainly doing cardio. In the past 8yrs my weight sky rocketed from 12 and half stone to 17 and half stone! I am 5, 11".

My weight is now 16stone after attending weight watchers for 6 weeks and trying to change things.

I find it very difficult lately to stay off tea and coffee as i constantly feel tired and then at night cannot sleep so its basically a vicious circle of not resting properly at night and then too tired during the day and my quality of life is bad.

I told my GP all of this and he tells me to keep off the intetnet and get outdoors as much as possible. I think he is right but i wish someone good just give me a shopping list and a good simple eating/fitness regime to stick to.

Regarding keeping fit i love walking the dog, cycling and i hope to join swimming improvers lessons next Tuesday.

My GP is giving me 2 months to reduce my cholesterol and if not lower then going on medication in order to reduce it.

The reason i left the gym was because of the expense of it.

Read the stickies, everything ya need is in them.
TBH I'd worry more about diet to begin with, since you're worried about cholesterol. Fresh fruit and veg, porridge, unprocessed meat, milk, etc. As I said, check the stickies for full info.

Did you get a breakdown of your bloods? how were your triglycerides and HDL?

Check out which gyms in your area do 'pay as you go'.
Most council run gyms do, as in the Markevich centre Tara street area etc.

Some even do reward cards, giving one free go in nine.
    Good luck.
