    Where is the best place to get small olympic plates online?

    The smallest plate in my gym is 2.5kg which means I can only go up in 5kg increments.

    I want the following:
    • 0.25kg x2
    • 0.50kg x2
    • 1.00kg x2

    Unless my calculations are off these six plates will let me hit any of the following increments between a given 5kg increment:

    e.g
    0.50kg = 2 x 0.25kg
    1.00kg = 2 x 0.50kg
    1.50kg = 2 x (0.5kg + 0.25kg)
    2.00kg = 2 x 1.00kg
    2.50kg = 2 x (1.00kg + 0.25kg)
    3.00kg = 2 x (1.00kg + 0.50kg)
    3.50kg = 2 x (1.00kg + 0.50kg +0.25kg)
    4.00kg
    4.50kg

    I'll probably survive without 4 and 4.5kg.

    I know this has been asked before but could not find the thread. Thanks.

    Good question. I suffer from the same thing at home but I do have 1.25kg plates which I got from Mick

    Can I tack on a side question?

    For power lifting, specifically deadlifting what height is the bar off the ground or in other words what diameter are the plates exactly?

    Google is my friend, 450mm apparently

    Plates should be 45cm in diameter. 20KG plates are typically this size

    I was about to post I had some I was willing to part with when I looked over the lingo again, "olympic plates". That's what I get for not going near a gym in over a year.

    Thanks Dubfit.

    IronWoodies come to ~£75 (including shipping from the USA to London) for 8 plates (1kg, 0.75kg, 0.5kg, 0.25kg).

    Nerlinger comes to ~£50 gbp (including shipping from Germany to London) for 6 plates (1.25kg, 0.50kg, 0.25kg).

    I've emailed Nerlinger to double check that each set in this link contains 2 plates and not just one.

    I'll update this thread when I get a response, in case anyone else is interested. Nerlinger seems to be the best option.

    Thanks. These are slightly cheaper at ~£47.50 including delivery from Luton to London. Problem is that I got confirmation on the phone that this price is for just 1 plate of each weight.... so double that price for the full sets --> £95.

    Just a suggestion, but what about two little bags of stones, or ball bearings to tie on to the bar at each side? With two identical bags with ball bearings in each side could be fairly accurate if you know the weight of the bags and weight of one ball bearing.

    Might look a bit weird I suppose! Or maybe you're looking for plates specifically.

    I've tried something like that already with 0.5 inch plates hooked on to the ends of the oly bar. They swung round a bit and feel off /snapped the string holding them on when putting deadlifts down. It will be a long term investment anyway so I'd like to get my paws on proper discs.

    Ya I know what you mean. I can see how the swinging would be off putting. No worries.

    Many people might have old small standard disks lying around, I know I have a few small ones from dumbbell sets. I have head of magnetic stick on plates before. I posted this site before with strong magnets. You could just put the magnet on your big plate and stick on your small one, or some other heavy metal object. They magnets are certainly strong enough.

    Also in a gym you could just add more collars to make up weight.

    Hey, new ere.

    I got my micro plates from this website
    http://www.gymequipment.uk.com/store/category/aolq/Free_Weights_Olympic_Discs.html

    they are the cheapest set i could find in this part of the world, but the service wasn't to great, they came about a week late, and the company had to ring me to confirm credit card details, which i was a little weary of, but on the upside it was free delivery.

    Not according to the email response I received this morning:
    Hello
    The prices are for one piece. If you want one pair you must order 2 pieces
    Thanks and regards
    Manfred nerlinger

    Spiral, what exactly did you get and for what cost?

    I doubt you have any old lead lying around do you, or do you know anyone working on a site who could get you a small bit. Could even price it in your local hardware

    You could cut it to required weight and roll it around the 2" collar and hey presto.

    Since lead is so dense I bet they would be nice and small too.

    I got a 12 kg set of plates 2x2.5, 2x2, 2x1, 2x0.5 which is what is advertised on the site.

    Total with postage was €40 which is a bargain.
    The guys english may not be perfect but he's advertising a 12kg set which is 2 0f (2.5, 2, 1 and 0.5)

    Thats also what it says underneath the plates as well in the picture.

    I know you want proper plates BossArky, but a cheap fix for these which others might be interested in would be to get 6x1.25kg plates from Irish Lifting, which would be €15, http://www.irish-lifting.com/product_info_equipment.php?products_id=240{4}61

    get a weighing scales, and take an angle grinder to them and trim them to the correct weight...

    To update this thread...

    The plates I initially enquired about on nerlinger.com were fancy Eliko branded stuff. These are double the price of the "Chinese no-name" plates in the picture on the front of the website.

    I opted for the Chinese ones as I couldn't care less what the brand is as long as the plates weigh a certain amount and fit on the oly bar.

    Ordered them last Tuesday around noon. They arrived to my door on Thursday morning. Total was ~60 euro including shipping.

    2 x 2.5kg, 2 x 2.0kg, 2 x 1.0kg, 2 x 0.5kg

    Yay.
