cd player skipping. HELP!!

i have a Hitachi AXM68 ND Shelf System (stereo) but the cd player keeps skipping. its not the the cd:pac: the warranty is gone so im wonderin is there anything i can do to fix it myself. any help would be greatly appreciated cause i dont want to have the bother to bring it to a shop to and pay to get it fixed

I had the same problem with my CD deck. It was caused dust on the lens of the laser head which I cleaned by taking off the cover and very gently wiping the laser lens with a cotton bud. Some people use a cleaning solution but I didn't need to as the dust wasn't stuck to the lens.
