Tour de France 2009 - LIVE and EXCLUSIVE ON TG4
TG4 has announced details of its exclusive live television coverage of Tour de France 2009, the most famous race in cycling. Running from Saturday July 4th to Sunday July 26th 2009, the 96th Tour de France will be made up of 21 stages and will cover a total distance of 3,500 kilometres. It is an epic undertaking as teams and riders cycle through France as well as areas such as Monaco, Spain, Andorra, Switzerland and Italy.
The race will begin in Monaco on Saturday 4th July with TG4’s live coverage beginning at 3:30pm and sees the riders cycle around the streets of Monaco with the famous landmarks of the Mediterranean principality providing a stunning and inspiring backdrop.
This unique sports event holds many fond memories for Irish people after Stephen Roche won the tour in 1987 while Seán Kelly made 14 tour appearances.
The channel’s viewers will be able to follow live action from Le Tour 2009 tracking the unfolding drama until the exciting conclusion in Champs Élysées in Paris on Sunday 26th July.
All three weeks of the Tour will be broadcast live on TG4 (see attachment with broadcast times & dates). There will be an average of three hours of live coverage each day as well as a 30 minute highlights package every night that will include previews, cyclist profiles, results and reports. Commentary will be provided by Páidí Ó Lionáird and Pádraic Ó Cuinn. The Tour will also be webcast live on www.tg4.tv<http://www.tg4.tv/> and the website will also offer updates, statistics and other Tour data.

Welcoming the announcement TG4 Head of Sport Rónán Ó Coisdealbha said; “We are thrilled to be showing the Tour for the fifth successive year. Following on the success of our coverage each year since 2005, we are confident that Irish viewers will continue to appreciate free to air access to the world’s most famous cycle race”.

As far as I know they covered it last year too. The lads have a strong enough accent but people should be able to follow what they're saying. They do seem to know their stuff.

I won't be able to follow what they're saying.

But I'll be bathing in a Sean Kelly soft-lilt reverie over on Eurosport anyway.

Last year they kept getting the names wrong and didn't even mention Ricco getting kicked out last year until they realised at the end of the stage. Hilarious stuff!!

    +1
They are working off a livefeed sitting in Connemara not conected to race radio like Eurosport.
Is it not a good thing that TG4 are atleast keeping TdeF in the news here. All we will get on radio and RTE is a few seconds.
And most of you will pick up what they ar talking about after a few days as all those irish classes are in the sub concious somewhere:D

Well unlike the Eurosport commentator in this video, they might know how to pronounce Roche:

    Absolutely agree.

Great coverage. In general longer time on air, less ad breaks then Eurosport (and not taken at the same time so you can switch between the two channel's and not miss anything) but best of all none of the "Aren't the Brits doing well" crap back in the the British Eurosport studios!

    Máith thu TG4!

Just finished watching it. Flipped between both channels. TG4 much better, except maybe when Kelly was speaking on Eurosport, which wasn't as much as I'd like. Plus they found out where Roche came even though footage didn't show him
