hey i'm running vista ultimate with IE version 7 but i want to make Firefox the only browser on my laptop. On that note will completely removing IE version 7 damage the windows operating system?
I really want to get rid of IE for the obvious lack of security. Sigh.

Removing IE7 from Vista Ultimate may result in problems getting Vista fixes, patches, and upgrades?

Since upgrading from IE7 to IE8, I've found IE8 to be more sluggish. I use FF3.0 as my default browser, and just keep IE8 for Vista updates. Will upgrade to FF3.5 once they get the bugs out.

If you do decide to uninstall IE7, you might want to visit this link first?

I don't even think it's possible to remove it completely

Can't be uninstalled fully, is a part of the operating system - just stop using IE unless it's for patches etc where Vista forces you to use it.

windows update is a program built into vista, thought it had nothing to do with Internet explorer anymore

Not sure you can remove it. Also having things built in like that and windows media player is a pain in the hole. My WM player has stopped working and I can't fix it without reinstalling the OS, what a joke.
