Here is a link to a fur protest that was in Dublin on tuesday http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2009/0908/breaking55.html

Aye, there's a rake of them on the North East coast...and even down beside the Electric Picnic.

I could be cynical and say that Irelands loss would be China's gain (and China's cats and dogs loss too - much more barbaric). What's more, fur farms for certain species (fox, I think) don't even need a permit here.

I think it would be sensible to suggest a better alternative for the people who's livelihoods depend on these fur farms, in tandem with a protest. I noticed that with the Climate Change Bog protest - local peoples attitude was "well, that's the only place for us to work, these hippies don't know a thing, they want us on the Dole" even though it was agreed that the bog would only produce peat (and employment) for 5 - 15 years. So, they had no local support.

So, an example - if you ban fur farms in the North East, at least have investment and training opportunities for the seaweed industry. Or get this Spirit of Ireland thing off the ground. Or whatever. Feel free to throw ideas at me.

In short, your preaching to the converted here, pretty much. It's the people with a vested interest (and the market that drives it) that need tackling with more than a "this is very bad, so it must go" rhetoric.

Now if someone could invent a vegetable sourced/ grown from cells in a petri dish alternative that was softer, warmer, easier to pattern and work with, longer lasting, easier to clean, etc., fur and fur farming might actually become a thing of the past.

    My two cents.

I dont know what you use fur for in this country but in Norway we use the fur produced only for jackets and stuff like that, there are almost no whole fur coats anymore and there are alot of alternatives to fur that is warmer or as just as warm. I cant understand that you need fur in this country at all because it is not very cold here, I guess to export alot of it.
Fur farming is a grotesque industry and shood be banned, and to be honost I dont give a **** about those murdering fur farmers they can just go to hell in my book

Today I was 20 minutes late to job, I hate drinking on thursdays because I never get up at the right time on fridays. There was this talent show on the pub last night where you can win 1000 euro, the last intro of it is next thursday so if there are any good singers out there you should join so you can win a 1000 euro, woohoo.
When the final is september 23rd all the drinks cost 3 euro so there is another reason to get in line.

    Hangover

Who thinks a recipie of the week would be a good thing? Where a forum member gives a recipie for their favourite dish and has a picture of it aswell or something? Maybe it's a bad idea... but maybe it's a good idea. I'm undecided on it myself, but thought I would type it all down here anyway as a suggestion.

Sounds pretty cool! We shall have to try it my dear raah!!

All this secojnd '!' when I have to exclaim something right after your name does not sit well with me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,629 ✭✭✭raah!

Hohohohahah. I hadn't considered that when I made the name. Didn't think this would be somewhere I would actually post in the long term when I made it either. Needed to fill the gap left by aoe forums and the like.

I can do the first one, peasy beansy pasta. Is what I call it. It's a bit crap like.

Ouh I like this idea. I for one would definitely try a new recipe if there was such a thread.

    Sounds good. :)

I hate pasta but you are improving it with peas and beans.

    Sure set up your thread!

Yeah but we are more likely to actually make the effort to pull crap things together.
So it will be useful :)

I'll first meticulously plan out my recipie format etc. I think that would make the thread much nicer. Headings and stuff.

I'm looking forward to going to the clare countryside I am. Tried to get some of my friends to head up to the mcgillycuddies there, but innumerable obstacles blocked us. Were gonna swim in the lakes during the "heat wave".

    :D

To tell the truth, I really love my pasta pots. I'm far more proud of them than I have any right to be. I'm always trying to get my friends to eat some of it when they're near it. But they're all "eeeeew vegetarian".

Also , if you don't like pasta, I make essentially the exact same thing with rice.
