...but its spelled treadmill. As in to tread. As in

tread: put down or press the foot, place the foot; "For fools rush in where angels fear to tread"; "step on the brake"

It is NOT spelled threadmill, a thread is a fine piece of string like material or a collection of posts on a forum but certainly not something you do with your feet.

Sorry, this was bothering me. Slow day.

    While we're at it:

    Dumbbell or Dumbell?
    Calves or Calfs?

    :D

ive also heard dungbells :P and dont forget the dreaded "spelt" *shudders*

I often hear it pronounced with the H so figure that is why people spell it, tread is a word not often used. The only other reason I could figure is some treadmills have 2 rollers with the belt on them which look like bobbins for thread.
    Dumbbell or Dumbell?
anything but dungbell, which I have seen lately

    EDIT: beaten to the dung.

Maybe it could be put in as a curse word, instead of ***** it out, it changes to treadmill.

You could also be reffering to a thread of execution. Thats in computers >_>

I just run so I need not know such jibba jabba

Also annoying is the use of the word "lense" on the photography forums, though I concede it is a legitimate if rarely used spelling. So thats more a personal thing.

But the threadmill thing, dear God, no. Just stop it. It sounds like a piece of equipment for making clothes on, or a perhaps an internet forum full of banality.

dont forget the dreaded "spelt" *shudders*

 What's wrong with "spelt"? It's the past participle of the verb "to spell".

Or are people using it incorrectly?

It has been spelt. Correct :)
I spelt it wrong. Incorrect :(

Loose instead of lose. I am not the greatest speller in the world, but for some reason that makes my teeth hurt.
