Anyone know what time the games are on, or if its been decided yet?

Also what is the story with tickets, when will they be on sale?

Dunno about tickets, I'd guess early next week. Throw in between Clare and "that crowd from up the road" is at 7.30 I think.

    C'mon the Banner!!!

Oh I know!! I merely live in hope. I actually thought they'd take a hammering from Tipp but it didn't transpire. Young Canning will have a field day with a full back line like we have. The only hope back there is Brian O Connell... but I still can't see anything but Galway winning by 6-8 points. Our only hope is that Galway usually have trouble beating Clare in the park... and... eh... I'll start praying now yeah?

Wouldn't suprise me if Clare won, they have nothing to lose and Galway are a very inconsistent team.

Wouldn't suprise me if Wexford won either, players have apprently been walking off the Limerick panel.

That may be but I reckon a lot of that had to do with Tipp playing piss poor in the second half than Clare being brilliant. Also when you take into account they took off Seamus Callinan, Eoin Kelly and was it Lar Corbett? Those three are major players for Tipp. And some of the wides Tipp hit were shocking for a team that would like to think of themselves as the No.2 team in the country. Give the Galway forwards that space... *shudders*

If Joe canning produces a similar display an if damien hayes starts taking his chances then galway will confirm themselves as No.2 in the country with a Great performance AND result against the bannor

What a joke, Pat Tobin, Limerick's only real scoring forward and supersub, has walked off the panel. New manager but same old story with Limerick hurlers. If morale in the camp is that bad then i'd take Wexford to win by 5 points.

I was just saying the same thing to a Limerick friend of mine last night, surely people will now realise that there is something very wrong at the heart of Limerick hurling and that replacing manager after manager is not the solution.

Its definitely not the solution. And the county board know this, but they continue to bury their heads in the sand. The problem is that players in Limerick do not have the required skills to compete properly. Our players have no first touch, they continually hit the ball without looking up to pick out a player, cannot pick a simple or score or find a player in space. There also seems to be no proper gameplan whenever the team plays. What Richie Bennis did with that group of players was nothing short of a minor miracle. The whole coaching setup in the county is wrong, there literally no coaching going on in schools. When i was in primary school in the mid 90s, the only county board coaches that came around to us were FOOTBALL ones - this was part of the Limerick Football Development Plan which began in '95. Its no coincidence that the Limerick footballers have made huge strides since. All because the proper structures were put in place at schools and grassroots level. The hurling has gone backwards ever since '96, we've progressively got worse and worse. No proper structures in place, unlike the football. People can blame the rise of rugby, but this is nonsense, rugby has always been strong in the city. Even so, in the 90s, the team relied on only 3 city based players. If the Limerick County Board may do its job properly and use what brains they have, Limerick hurling wouldn't be in this precarious state.

Yeah Limerick Hurling is in a Bad State. And Again we could be shown up Badly on the 11th Against Wexford.
Even back in 2003 debacle against Offaly the time Dave keane was in charge that need was a disgrace but what has happened since in Ennis 06 and offaly again 08 really has hurt limerick hurling so much.
One i think Limerick hurling will never recover from.

We got to a minor All ireland Final in 05 this team was never built on.
Last yr we had one of the best U21 Teams for a good few yrs led by a great manager in Ciaran Carey and what happens this yr he resigns from it.
Ciaran should have been asked or even begged to stay as the man has it to be a top coach.
Now Again we have a great coach and the players are at it again from what reports i hear.
This is so dishearting to the loyal Limerick Fans who outnumbered waterford fans in the replay.
Ever yr they show up and what are they rewarded with.In fighting and a county board who are spinless.

It is no wonder that my first choice these days seems to be the footballers.Always been a dual supporter of my county but the hurlers acting like this every year really put me off.

Limerick Football team that will take to the pitch next sunday may not be All Ireland contenders but by god they will give it their all for the county.

Canning was also fouled numerous times to win these frees . If he wasn't fouled so many times i think we both know what havoc he would have caused . As for the "bannor" , it's the nickname for county Claro ...get it?:p:rolleyes:

Agreed that he won alot of the frees but I just feel the media reaction to he's performance against KK was overboard they were comparing it to he's performance against Cork last year, which it was no where near to, it was as if some of them watched the first 15 minutes and decided he was destroying them but missed the fact that JJ and Tenneyson actually did a good job in curbing he's threat after that altough at the expense of the Galway centre Forward picking up a lot of ball as Tenneyson was almost playing as a second FB

Clare V Galway, I find it hard to predict. I want Galway to win, because if they got KK again, I have a feeling it could be a different result.

Yes they are. Wexford have been drawn at home in the football qualifiers as well, so that means a double header in Wexford Park. Wish I was at home for this :(

2 easy wins so...........eeek ! Seriously tho, they have a good chance of a double, but would need to make a HUGE improvement to figure in the All Ireland series (in both codes) after that !

wexford are shocking but limerick are the worst of the top counties at hurling...i have very little fate in this team, they truely are brutal..even if they do win there ****ed if they meet a half decent team!...o btw cmon galway knock those eejits up the road out!

Tickets for these games are on sale on tickemaster at the moment if anyones interested.

Wexford v Roscommon and Wexford v Limerick is a double header with the football at 3pm and the hurling at 5pm.

As strange as it sounds, this game is far more important to Galway than it is to Clare imo. A defeat for Galway would be an absolutely devastating blow to the county. Despite the encouraging signs against Kilkenny and the performances of Portumna in recent years, Galway haven't defeated a team of any real standard in the Championship for a number of years now.

On the other hand there's no real pressure on Clare. They had a shocking league and a shocking 35 minutes against Tipp, but I feel they can still produce the good when they need to. And there's no better scenario to do that then meeting Galway in your own back yard. Galway have the better hurlers no doubt, but there's just a nagging feeling in the back of my mind that Clare could nick it. Personally though I'd like to see Galway go far this year.

I'm not going to bother predicting Wexford/Limerick though, it's almost impossible to call.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,477 ✭✭✭grenache

Clare could beat Galway, but that man Joe Canning will ensure they dont. Even if the groundsmen at Cusack Park do what they did in '06 and narrow the field, it wont save Clare. As for Wexford-Limerick, home advantage should swing it for the Yellowbellies by 1-2 points. These are two poor sides, and i dont expect it to be a pretty game. It would not surprise me if Limerick pulled a rabbit out of the hat and nicked it, given that they're highly unpredictable and can win when the odds are stacked against them. Its unlikely though seeing as this is the worst Limerick team in 10 years.

Looks like Stephen Banville will miss the game on Saturday, another player to add to the long injury list :(

Can't see Limerick even putting up a show in this one- twill be their typical annual qualifier surrendar. When they are knocked out of munster they usually throw their hat at it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 239 ✭✭deccy15

should clare come up with some sort of a game plan 2 curb the threat of canning i'd definetly pick clare, forwards like hayes and niall healy don't produce with any sort of consistensy imo!! and if colin ryan produces a similiar performance 2 the tipp game he will cancel out cannong's contribution!!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,729 ✭✭✭Pride Fighter

Wexford and Galway wins IMO. Wexford are still somewhat competitive in hurling, can run the better Munster counties close. They are unlucky to be in a province dominated by the might of Kilkenny and the emergence of Dublin:)

Wexford got a hard time in recent years for always getting trounced by Kilkenny in Leinster finals, but people seemed to forget that KK were hammering most other teams aswell. Wexford are certainly no worse than Clare and Limerick and aren't a million miles behind the the likes of Galway and Waterford either.

Galway should beat Clare, but then Galway hurlers should do alot of things, and until they can start putting good performances back-to-back I will remain sceptical. I think we'll probably get past Clare though it won't be easy.

In the other game I'd go for Wexford. With home advantage I think they'll shade that one.

It's not live on tv, and not listed as being on the web either.

PS the live games saturday are

    3pm Monaghan v Derry RTE
    5pm Longford v Kerry TV3
    7pm Clare v Galway RTE

longford v kerry ahead of wexford v limerick. Shocking altogether! The football match is obviously going to be a one-sided affair while the hurling is going to be so close yet they dont show it?? Live95fm hopefully will have it on.

For anybody going to Wexford Park it will be a triple header, with the football on at 3, hurling at 5 and camogie at 7. Prices will be as follows, and really good value IMO

    Covered Stand €20
    Uncovered stand €20
    Terrace €15 (Clonard End only)

Pensioners €10 (with ID) for all areas of the grounds

Students €10 (Terrace only) Must Produce ID

No concession for students for the covered stand or uncovered seating

Children U16 free to all areas of the ground

I'm headin to the Clare/Galway game. Should be a full-house and very close. I fancy Clare to take them in Cusack Park and are a big price @ 5-2 with Ladbrokes.

Gavin o mahoney is starting in midfield on sunday along with hickey. Ollie moran and paul browne have been dropped from the starting line out. Wayne mcnamara and sheehan are starting in the forward line. Anyone want to confirm this?

If gavin is starting in midfield with hickey, where does that leave dodge?

EDIT: Dodge is starting in midfield with o mahoney. Hickey is in backline. :P (I Think). Any confirmation? Can anyone post the starting team if possible. Thanks.

Sorry I was in the airport making my last post so I could not link to the story, but here it is

    Banville Out

Injury list is now ridiculous with a large number of first team players out, including Banville, Quigley, Stamp, Rossiter (Okay he starts on Saturday but has been out pretty much all year), Nolan, Lambert, Farrell, Waters, Shore

Apparently the Wexford team for Saturday is as follows. I will miss the game because I am in Santorini

    Fitzhenry
    M Travers
    P Roche
    K Rossitor
    D Stamp
    R Kehoe
    C Kenny
    H Kehoe
    D Lyng
    PJ Nolan
    W Doran
    R Jacob
    D Redmond
    E Martin
    S Doyle

Wouldnt be suprised if seamus hickey was stuck on lyng to keep him from gaining possesion as lyng is an obvious threat. Need to actualy see the real limerick team though. Sure, we dont even have a SPECIFIC free-taker. It changes from shaughs to Niall moran and back again. Why is ollie not playing though and shaughs is? Both have been poor imo.

Well if O'Mahony and Dodge are starting in midfield on Sunday then i'd say they'll have it all to themselves ;) Good to see Donnacha Sheehan starting, he's not prolific by any means but he'll win a lot of ball and he's fast. Hoping to see another good showing from James Ryan at centre forward. I agree that Ollie shouldn't have been dropped, Shaughs has been a lot poorer in the two games to date.
