    Hi all,

I want to start on a program of exercise and training to tone up, lose a few pounds and generally feel a little more alert. I just hit thirty recently and since then if I eat a mars bar it goes straight to my gut! Im 5:10 and was always 10 stone, now Im 30 and up to 12 stone which is still ok but the tummy is not what is was!!

I need to state I work a stressful job and sometimes do 20 hour days so I cant do crazy eat seeds diet as I may fall off a ladder at a height, bad juju. So my questions are.

Can you lose weight and tone up from exercise alone?
Can you see any result in the first 2 months?

My routine would be gym 5 mornings for cardio, then a reps session from a mens fitness mag, then the pool.
In the evening 3-4 nights a week I will be walking 10k, trying to bring the time down and push harder.

My diets not too bad, I eat a good breakfast, lunch and dinner and dont eat take aways. I do love wine though.

With this routine Id like to lose the gut and tone up? Is there any hope??

Cheers for advice in advance.. By the way I hate exercise but the leisure centre Im signed up for is real plush so it should be a nice experience..

The people who know the most here tend to look for more specific info on diet and routine.

Not sure how useful mens fitness magazines are, so it would probably help to post the weights & cardio programme.

There is heaps of good information/advice in the stickies in the fitness forum.

If you hate exercise I would say 5 morning sessions doing cardio/weights/swim and 3-4 nights a week walking 10k will last about a day. You might be better trying something more realistic which will be easier to stick to, 3-4 times a week training should be enough. I like lots of bodyweight exercises, push ups, pullups, dips, squats and rows. The first two months are the best btw, your body will really change quickly.

Thanks for the advice. The one thing I do like when I trained before (which lasted more than a day but my membership ran out) is the swimming and the feeling of tiredness and good night sleep at night. I also woke earlier and fresher. The walk I enjoy cause I train with two women who are well out of shape and Im the guy pushing them along (their training to run a 10k)

What I dont like is the training program doing weights etc as I do it on my own and can be kind of boring. To solve this the leisure centre where I joined is real small so hopefully I can control the music. I love music but the music in gyms is bloody awful..!!

I guess what pushes you harder too is when you see a difference, I just hope it happens fast..!
