    Hi y'all,

Basically, I'm currently in charge of a underage soccer team that has made a cup final. At the minute all the lads are fairly fit because its mid-season with their GAA and they've been playing soccer all year too.

I have a feeling though that they aren't sharp though and I'm wondering does anyone have any drills or ideas to improve that? By sharp I mean, speed off the mark, being first to react and powering into tackles.

Thanks for any help and any suggestions.

What kind of training do you currently do? Is it twice a week too?

How close is the cup final?

IMO shuttles are a great way of improving sharpness and speed off the mark.

The shuttles can be as long or as short as you want, and as hard as you feel is needed.

Not trying to be smart but with juniors focus on skills and keeping it fun, in a short period there will not be many gains made anyway so just keep them motivated..

Agreed. But maybe the OP could throw in a bit of SAQ training as well, which has great benefits and is something I found fun when I was younger and it was introduced in training.

Train exactly that, slow trot then full speed on your whistle, build it up dont over do it!
